yeah...that makes more sense. I think thats where they would put the apps in their suspended state, opposed to keeping them in the main DDR3 memory.I am pretty sure they are using as a cache, and not a storage location...

Basically html5 containers? Sure they have a webview that can be used, just like android and ios, but even if you use the "MS version" of js, from what I understand, it is projected to windows runtime and sandboxed. Obviously im assuming that X1 runs the same way, and while I don't know everything, I am pretty sure that a .NET app has never been used to hack windows without calling in to native api.Although... Microsoft did do all that instant on for SSD computers stuff in windows 8, so probably some portion of the os resides in the flash.
Also, Microsoft seems all in on HTML 5, and Windows 8 apps are basically just HTML5 containers with all the actual software running on servers. Dashboard apps may not be much more that formatting containers, with all the state information being handled by the cloud
True, I can't even think of what I would be doing to have 4 apps going at the same time.4 apps huh? That's more than Ill ever need.
Ill probably use Skype and a game quiet a bit. But I cant think of what else I might use.True, I can't even think of what I would be doing to have 4 apps going at the same time.
TV, Game, Skype, ?
I'd have to imagine that this will be possible. I surely hope so.I just realized I can watch twitch tv and game at the same time. That will be so nice! Now question, can I have a music app run in the background at the same time, cause I want in game custom soundtracks from iheartradio or Pandora or slacker radio

Penello stated that, “Functionally it’s the same thing. But what I meant in the demo, is that the last 4 apps you run are stored resident in the flash. This means there is 0 load time once it’s been started. If you had Netflix, IE, Xbox Music and the TV app already opened once, you could basically switch instantly between them.
“The fifth app you opened would boot out the last one. However, the reason I say ‘functionally’ the same is that you could have the music app running in the background, for instance. In the case of something like Netflix, we’re not going to keep the video running for no reason.”
If MS did that with a closed system that would be pathetic. I suspect the OS memory footprint accounts for 4 apps suspension. If that memory runs out, a suspended app will be closed...the gaming allocation will be what the devs will get to work with and that won't be affected by the rest of the system.Basically html5 containers? And remember, X1 is no longer "always connected", so the cloud cant be relied on. While MS has done an awesome job in refining the memory footprint of suspended apps. I'd be kinda pissed if my game had to compete for memory with a suspended app. I suspect apps (distinctive from games) go to flash, and then moved to main memory when resurrected.
Holy crap. Good find. I am glad they thought of those little things.

Note, with the standby mode these things SHOULD be staying in memory when you turn off the system. Its not just about AT THE MOMENT...but rather commonly used apps that will be able to quickly just load up instead of waiting for the app to load.
then dont, it has the same pay scale as spotify. http://www.xbox.com/en-US/MusicThey need to add a spotify app.
I have no intention of paying for Xbox Music.
Not this time and I love your avatar.Sounds pretty cool. Now lets put it to use and see for ourselves if snapping is as smooth as the presentations.
Meaning no small hiccups, freezing, or "God is slow compared to the demos", you know sometimes things turn out that way.
Your refusing to pay for xbm, when it is exactly like spotify. I would say better since they have smartglass integration and I can pick a playlist and hit the "play on Xbox" button. I guess I should hear your reasoning first before I try to convince you

Right on. Well I'd encourage you to fiddle with xbm through the web interface. I'm not sure if the free version is able to be streamed on Xbox tho. I'm tied to Ms all over (surface, 360, win8, & lumia 920) and its pretty nice.I've been using spotify since it was available and subscribed as long as I've had a smart phone. So pretty much that. I'm a bit attached to it and even use it over free services.
I have tried Xbox Music, and it's not like I didn't think it was worth the money. It's just that I'm not going to pay for both.
I actually don't know anything about Xbox music, but I just looked at in on the web and it lets you just listen to any songs you want for free? What's the catch and what does the paid version give you?Right on. Well I'd encourage you to fiddle with xbm through the web interface. I know the free version is limited to 10 hours a month. The paid version allows for syncing across all devices, unlimited downloads and streaming. Really, I think their plans are the exact same as spotify, but its been a while since I used spotify. From what I've heard, xbm has more songs available.I actually don't know anything about Xbox music, but I just looked at in on the web and it lets you just listen to any songs you want for free? I did just notice it doesn't let you listen to every song you want. Some of the items tell me I need a windows 8 device or my phone (I'm assuming this means windows phone?). So on my comp I can't listen to everything I want.I know the free version is limited to 10 hours a month. The paid version allows for syncing across all devices, unlimited downloads and streaming. Xbox Music is an amazing service. I'm using it right now and quite often I might add. Well worth the 11$ IMO mate. They actually have a 30 day free trial going on right now.
