Official Forza 5 discussion v2.0

Sorry for replying to this thread, but apparently the mods allowed Haggis to post the above statement, so I think it's ok to reply to it

“great work with the water effects in drive club and I believe that is why it looks so real.”

Really ? DC use mirrored water effects, check this picture, and plz don't use great water effects in the same sentence as DC again.
draw a line in the middle of the car hood and you'll see the rain drops are exactly the same on both sides - strange rain and most unrealistic I've ever seen - 'nuff said

Actually I was going to delete the posts, but as I scrolled down I saw that people got back on topic without needing to be told to do so (Which is shocking to say the least).

So I guess this is the formal mod post telling people to stop bringing up DC in FH2 threads please. Because again, in 2 pages you guys will then turn around and complain that the PS fanboys have derailed your thread with DC talk when really you're doing it all your own.

Ouch....so much for dynamic. That is pretty sad.

Forza Horizon 2 Eye's On:

http://nzgamer.com/previews/1219/forza-horizon-2-eyes-on.html

We here at NZGamer know that the Forza community is a strong one. We’re aware of the competitions that are put on, and know that when it comes to information on a new title you want to make sure only the best come back with information.

Unfortunately, the three of us attending E3 this year know nothing about Forza. I did, however, stand in line for 5 minutes to have a go at Forza 5 on a multi-screen setup before giving up and walking off. I think it was this dedication to the series (plus the fact that I’ve had to edit all the times I’ve called it Forze) that made me the prime candidate for what was to come next. In a Behind Closed Doors session with Martin Connor, the Lead Designer of Forza Horizon 2, me and a few other journalists got to see FH2 in action and learnt everything about what was going to make this stand out.

When it came to standing out, the one thing that Martin showed off almost instantly, was the fact that in FH2 there are no barriers for where you can go. Well, there are, but as he put it, there are “barriers where barriers would be”. What that means is that instead of bouncing off of that wooden fence and being guided back onto the track - the defined area you need to stick to - you simply smash through it as you would in real life.

Tearing through fields of wheat or grass will be an all new way to try and best the opposition in this more arcadey iteration of the Forza franchise. But just because it’s aiming to be more arcadey doesn’t mean the team isn’t taking this spin-off franchise seriously. Forza Horizons 2 will sport 200 cars, 700+ unique events, cross country races, challenges for every hidden unlockable car, will require 150 - 200 hours to complete, and do it all on a map 3 times the size of the one seen in the first Forza Horizon.

The challenges mentioned above come in the form of a Bucket List. You know, that list of things you need to do before you die. Well, when you find one of the hidden cars you get a car specific challenge that needs to be completed, and these look to include some of the hardest most insane challenges the developers could think up. Martin also mentioned that it would be possible to have new monthly Bucket List challenges thanks to the online connectivity.

Speaking of which, Martin assures me that the room of journalists that FH2 will be the same game on and offline thanks to the Drivatars. Just like Forza 5 you can race against people on your friends list who react and drive exactly as they would if they were playing against you. With the way it’s been set up you can go from offline to online seamlessly and they explain that there are not only no lobbies, but no waiting either. You simply drive up to an event that’s about to start, and go.

The last thing Martin shows us is what they call “car meets”. He says that they’re just important in this game as they are in real life…. so supposedly they’re important in real life too. In these Car Meets you’re able to meet up with your online buddies to check out each others rides and look at grabbing any upgrades or liveries that you might be interested in.

It all sounds like a winning formula, and it looks fantastic in motion, but whether or not these Meets, the Bucket List, and the open-world freedom without barriers can keep the fans happy will all be revealed on September 30th.

i would say GIFs are kinda bullshots too, games never look as good as the GIFs

That was kind of my point about the other racing game. Not that it doesnt look amazing.

I want to see it on my 55" before I claim it to be "photo realistic, real life".

Well I was speaking about in motion and you can't tell me it doesn't look good. I don't own a PS4 and I am only commenting on the short videos I have seen. FH2 looks great also but when I am seeing both of them in motion Drive Club looks more authentic.

Lets face it, you are never going to notice it when racing. I will call this type of discussion "The DF effect". People can get on their high horse all they want, but DC looks great visually. As does FH2. People can compare and fight all they like, but surely we should all be rejoicing in the fact that there are two quality racers coming.

Not sure if you seen this, but holy crap is this just an insane improvement or what:

The ring is being compared between FM4 and FM5, using the same car. The track, all new from the ground up to the millimeter, looks beyond stunning. The lighting in FM5 is just sick. The reflections of the hands and cockpit motions in the windshield make me want to cry.

The ring is just awesome in FM5. The best re-creation of the ring to date in a game.

The thing I found impressive there is the sound. In Forza 4 it sounds pretty much the same in cockpit as it does on the bumper. In forza 5 the cockpit sound sounds like the sound is coming from outside the car, and then it is ramped up in bumper view. It may seem like a small thing, but that small thing makes the cockpit more atmospheric.

Visually the difference is glaringly obvious. Wonder what forza 6 will look like ? going by the vast improvements last last gen from F2 to F3, it should be pretty big.

They are two different games with two different art styles. One is going more for the photorealistic look, the other more arcade-ish look. You can have appreciation for both art styles but it's not a surprise one looks better than the other because of what each game is trying to do.

I don't think FH2 is going for an arcade look visually. They are going for a realistic look, and are doing a good job doing so, considering the level of the game. Not AS realistic as DC, but DC, like you said, is doing it different.

FH2 looks very colourful so gives me a very arcade / cartoonish look. Might just be the videos I've seen so far since it looks like it's always sunset time.

It does look more arcade like yes. I still feel they were going for realistic looking in there attempt. But corners have to be cut. These consoles are under powered.

In addition to the graphics and sound, the physics are MUCH improved as well. I can actually drive RWD cars now and control the wheelspin and even drift. I could never drift in previous games. You either had grip or not, there was no middle ground.

I kind of laugh at all the FM5 hate. I know the car and track count is a little thin (actually the count from FM4 was just really big), but that shouldn't stop anyone from getting this game who loves driving.

It is the tracks more than anything. Sure, 200 cars is 300 less, but it is still 150 more than pretty much any other racer. It would not be too bad if tracks were common DLC but they are not for this franchise.

It's the best sim racer on console to date (physics, realism, graphics). Also confirmed by InsideSimRacing. Hate on that all you want, but if you want a better sim, you will have to toss out your console and get a PC.

I still wonder why they didn't make more fantasy tracks? I know the real ones take a lot of time and they have to take photos, etc. You'd think it would be easy to crank out fantasy ones.

Well, MS gave them time constraints. It's something we just have to deal with when it comes to a new gen. The consumer does indeed miss out, but that is the cost of early adoption.

They could have just thrown in some Forza 4 ports of tracks and cars to up the count. But I think they did it right by starting from scratch for the new generation.I suspect Forza 6 will up the car count by maybe 100, and up the track count by maybe 8 more.

Is it an arcadish look though ? We are talking about some of the best and most beautiful parts of southern Europe. Lots of sun & colour. The Colour is perhaps a bit over-saturated but this has become something of a standard for Forza games. I do agree though they are two different games trying to accomplish different things within the same genre.

Compared to the other game, yes. It's a little bit cartoon-ish to me partly due to the colourful picture.

Yeah, that would help. Surely they could do some sort of procedural generation based on the real life tracks they meticulously recreate.

Has nothing to do with a new gen. Pretty much all the Forza games have had a fairly weak track count to car count. I would rather stick to 200 cars and get 10 new tracks in F6.

Has this been posted yet? InsideSimRacing:

http://www.isrtv.com/xbox-360/forza-horizon-2-gameplay-impressions/

and then Gamplay and Impressions:

They are raving about this game.

@menace-uk- I see they added the mechanical damage physics from Forza 5 as well. NICE!

I saw the raw gameplay somewhere in here. Had not see the impressions video, and to be honest, it is rather terrible. He wanders, starts, drifts off somewhere else, and ultimately gives few solid impressions.

Yeah, mechanical damage and tuning are in now  am so glad tuning is in.

Those sneaky bastards at Turn 10 added the 2014 Stingray and the 2013 Veneno....BUT you can't buy them individually...only part of a pack. They tease you with the best ones, but they are never the ones you can buy individual. BASTARDS!!!

I bought the pack with the new Stingray.....oh boy....so moist.
