Sales Comparisons v. 2.0

Impressive numbers for Sony. But what realm do you have to live in to see, just what the Sam hell is selling this console? It's the most boring console this side of this generation. Almost every exclusive bombed thusfar (not to ruffle any feathers but it's true) no pizzaz, no excitement to it. Yet, it's the best selling console by a country mile this gen, and will probably remain so. Its baffling. I'd almost say, "Good job Sony!", but even they are bewildered. lol.

By far the most unorthodox generation I've ever witnessed.

Multiplats + the Xbox brand not being popular in areas outside of NA and the UK + the Wii U not having third party support & being "last gen" in power.

The Xbox One beat the PS4 in sales in North America in November and December (by a lot) and the PS4 sold less than 200K here in January. Yet worldwide sales went up a whole lot since last year for the PS4; Shows that the PS4 is simply more attractive to foreign audiences.

It's no more baffling than watching people defend a plastic box with a certain name attached to it no matter how much the company who created the box has screwed over their fanbase. The "boring console" argument works both ways. I'm still using the batteries that came with my X1. I've never owned a console that was so awful compared to its predecessor.

Interesting point was made on Neogaf regarding 360 sales, 48 million of sales - over half the installed base number - were from US and the UK.

Those two regions are absolutely key to the Xbox One's success, Microsoft cannot afford to lose ground in either.

Did I upset you precious? Lol.

Some of you guys get so worked up, it's a wonder your eyes don't pop out if your head. I never said WORD-ONE! about any other platform at all. So what exactly am I defending? Its my opinion. Because I'm not praising Playstation and voicing my thoughts on how unremarkable it is, doesn't always equate to me praising the Xbox. It quite simply comes down to my thoughts specifically, on what the hell is selling the console.

It is baffling. Even Sony themselves are having trouble figuring out why they're selling so many consoles at such a rapid pace. No must have releases since it hit store shelves, at all. At this point, the only wind in its sail, stem from multi plats. It's just an unremarkable product to be selling so well. I'd almost go as far as saying the Playstation 4, (in my opinion) isn't worthy of its own success. And until Sony themselves can figure it out, I'll keep that opinion.

Don't like it? Find it hard to deal with my opinion? Tough s***. Adopt a highway.

The thing is they've already lost ground in both markets. I've said it many times, being close in NA isn't going to be good enough for them to be number one (or very successful) they need to dominate Sony here and I really don't think that's going to happen this time.

They know why things are going well for them, don't confuse modesty for the sake of PR with being a fact. Their exclusives match up well against exclusives from any other platform out there so I don't know what you are smoking and they aren't bombing in sales either. I'd swear you pull the things you say out of your ass but for that to happen you'd have to pull your head out of there first and I think we all know that will never happen :tounge:

I think the PS3 would have done these numbers as well if Sony didnt go bat sh!t crazy and price their console at $600 a year after the very nicely designed (despite RRoD) Xbox 360.

Microsoft's only chance to compete is make better games. But they built their infastructure in every area but building their games studios. Securing third party exclusives is probably getting harder and more expensive to do as well.

That guy from Sony that said that seems completely honest. So I don't doubt that they are a little bit surprised at just how well things are going.

What kind of numbers will it hit when the console is $299 with a backlog of hits? Crazy.

(Not to ruffle any feathers but its true I can do this to)Xbox One exclusives aren't much better and none have been a huge success.
I don't know how its baffling when 3rd party games are by far the biggest sellers/most popular and the majority of time run better on the PS4,Plus offers more/is cheaper.the controller is more preferred and the UI is arguably better.(its like the Xbox and PS switched places this gen)

Anyway on topic I think Xbox One takes Feb or is close.
WW Xbox One Total=14 million shipped....11.5 million sold is my guess.

And is more attractive to NA audiences but MS is good at marketing/prices/deals etc those two months.
You can't assume by 2 months of a shift the picture changes.

If you could go back in time, and know the PS4 would double the sales of the Xbox One, would you still buy the Xbox One as your primary console?

There are still people that think that everyone should be playing Halo.

Vast majority of gamers buy their systems for multiplatform.

Anyone that bought the Xbox One for the right reason shouldn't be too upset. Plus PS4 selling more would have been a safe bet when the generation started.

I don't think it's any mystery why the PS4 is selling well. We've been over it dozens of times in this thread -- better public perception, better hardware, its competitor stumbled over their own feet, long wait between gens, better performing multiplatforms, much improved controller, a stable of exclusives that people love, more open policies, brand recognition, etc.

Pretty sure everyone knows why, they're just not happy with the result of your reasons. But on the flipside, Flynn said XBO is sitting in a better position/place than PS4. Then again Flynn also said MS had better hardware logistics than a hardware company.

Yes. What a ridiculous question. If you buy a machine simply because everyone else is, then you are sheep and a fool. You buy because it has games/features you want.

I'm amazed at how well all the consoles are selling. Just goes to show how starved gamers were for a new generation.

I do feel like the first parties are still playing catchup. You'd think they'd be clued in for when the launch was going to be, so as we would have had at least one killer app for launch.

I love that this generation is showing that multiple consoles can be supported...

...COME BACK SEGA!!

p.s. Is software attach rate the more profitable side of the industry? Why is this not a more important subject in this thread?

I bought an Xbox One for the games, the controller and Xbox Live. I didn't buy it because it sold better or worse than a competitor. Good lord.

Relax dude. You take opinions so personally one has to wonder what is going on between you and your electronics, Jinca. Any luck with that escort service for a date? I'll pay for it if I have to. Just let me know.

Yo! Take it easy, Qbert. Halo is still a great game. I just bought MMC and its honestly the best purchase I've made thusfar, and thats including FH2 and Dying Light.

And I'm not bashing Halo......however, if someone is going to say that it's baffling that PS4 is doing better, when Xbox has better games....well, that's a nonsensical claim, as not everyone agrees on which one has the better games. There's nothing to be baffled about. Simply put, not everyone likes Halo. Not everyone likes Titanfall. Not everyone likes Ryse. Same goes for not everyone liking Infamous, Killzone, or Knack.

Think about what your reaction would be had someone said...."it's baffling that XB1 is selling at all, because their exclusives are so unremarkable". You yourself said that it's just your opinion...but you're kinda questioning other people's opinions by saying you're baffled by it.

I'm not questioning any ones opinion...at all in fact. Thats just my own. And my post wasnt in a versus or comparison context. It literally has nothing to do with X1, and everything to do with why the Ps4 is selling so well. I just successfully negotiated the biggest deal of my life and in the "Ohh! I want that stage." Buying stuff left and right. And I still cant bring myself to buy a Ps4. 55 inch curve screen with 4K resolution at Best Buy?, definitely. If I were to buy a Ps4, it would be to support Sony in which I dont personally have a problem doing. But I look at it like, "What's in it for me?" There's just no mutual ground there to invest in one. There isnt anything there to suggest why its selling so well. Its easier to pin point why the Wii sold so well than it is to see why the Ps4 is. Thats my take.

I kind of agree with your statement about the Wii McM, but I'm also baffled why the WiiU isn't selling... I've owned every Nintendo console from the NES up to the Wii... But I'm not drawn to the WiiU.. In fact the console is a bit of a mystery to me.

Whatever Sony is doing, they're doing a brilliant job.

I wasn't saying that at all.

People are bringing up things like power, exclusives, PR, etc. when the gen was pretty much decided when it was confirmed that both systems would launch during the same time/year. Those factors that I mentioned previously helped the PS4 but the biggest thing that helped (that many people seem to not give much importance to) is the system's release date.

I mean look at last gen. The Xbox 360 had a year head start and a much better perception than the PS3 out of the gate but yet the PS3 still caught up in worldwide sales. That + the sales of the PS4 during these past few months should show/prove that the PS4 would more than likely be in a similar position even if the Xbox One was more powerful, and didn't have a bad prelaunch period. The Playstation brand is simply more dominant/popular worldwide.

Most people that aren't bringing up release date as a main factor are mainly looking at things as if both console brands were on equal footing everywhere in the world before the gen started (i.e.: Anderson's post -- though that's not to negatively call him out or anything).
