Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, will be released May 19, publisher Activision announced today.

That's about four and a half months after the first expansion, The Dark Below, which launched Dec. 9. The launch date for House of Wolves falls during Activision's previously announced second-quarter release window. Destiny itself was released Sept. 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.

More info to come....

Destiny's second expansion, House of Wolves, will be released May 19, publisher Activision announced today.

That's about four and a half months after the first expansion, The Dark Below, which launched Dec. 9. The launch date for House of Wolves falls during Activision's previously announced second-quarter release window, and is the exact date that was rumored in a February leak. Destiny itself was released Sept. 9 on PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. House of Wolves is the second and final expansion in the game's $34.99 Expansion Pass; purchased separately, the two expansions cost $19.99 each.

Bungie said earlier this year that it hopes it will fix some of The Dark Below's mistakes with House of Wolves. In particular, the studio doesn't want to invalidate hard-earned raid gear with items you can just buy from vendors, or force players to re-upgrade exotic weapons. Instead, Bungie is aiming to "lessen the grind and get players to the fun parts of their arsenal faster," according to designer Luke Smith.

House of Wolves may send players to the Reef in the Asteroid Belt, according to a late-February leak. It would be a new social hub for Guardians to hang out in, a second area beyond the Tower in The Last City on Earth. The leaked information for House of Wolves also mentioned a new Awoken storyline and a third raid, plus three new Crucible maps and another Fallen strike. The Dark Below added one new strike to Destiny as well, but it included an additional strike (and other content) exclusively on PlayStation platforms.

With each of the two February leaks, Bungie advised Destiny players that all House of Wolves content is "placeholder" and is subject to change until the studio officially announces the details. But the expansion's prologue, which you can watch above, seems to confirm the leaked information. In a voice-over, the Queen of the Reef invites Guardians to hunt the Fallen who betrayed her people, the Awoken, after the Awoken gave the Fallen a home in the Reef.

Following House of Wolves, Bungie will put out a "major content release" for Destiny later this year, Activision announced during an earnings call in February. In the meantime, you can read our review of The Dark Below, an expansion that we felt was "just as grandiose and ultimately shallow as the main game," and check out its trailer below.

Just about a month till you can visit new places you've already visited a billion times before...

I have the pass so I'll have this available but to be honest I don't know if this game has any pull for me at this stage.

Yeah, I traded my copy in a couple weeks ago. While I really like the gameplay in Destiny, and I don't mind grinding, I do need some new places and someone new to grind on. I also wasn't a fan of the dangling carrot that ended up 3/4 eaten when it finally drops...

Yeah, it really is a bummer. I really liked playing a lot of you.

Yeah, I got burned out recently. This past week was the first time I've spent no more than an hour altogether playing Destiny since Launch. I haven't even played Raids for nearly a month straight. However, I'm willing to try and play HoW DLC. I have a feeling it'll going to be short and sweet but we'll see..

I have the Digital Editiion which comes with this expansion so I will be playing it unfortunately. So I can see what should have been in the game at launch.

I am still playing trying to level all my weapons but this game is now giving me more weapons to keep me playing. Exotics take forever to level even with symmetry.

"House of Wolves will not have a Raid activity. We didn't make this decision lightly. Our team has been humbled by the reception of Raids in Destiny and we are creating a new Raid for a release later this year. House of Wolves will have a new cooperative end game activity focused on variety, replayability, and skill – a new battle Arena called The Prison of Elders."

Well, no RAID. Not sure how I feel about that...365 Fatbringer, why yes please

New armor though....ugh...my pants

The Raids are the only thing worth replaying. I guess they figure the people still playing will just keep playing regardless so you might as well start mailing it in.

I'll be back for HoW dlc. Last week was the first week I didn't raid or do a nightfall. I did a quick heroic strike and that was it. I'm hooked on Bloodborne now. But I still think Destiny is a good game. Its not perfect and needs some major content/gear boosts. But I think it has a solid foundation for future games in the series.

no raid? wth
Yeah, that was a huge shocking. I wonder how players who have paid HoW DLC will get this Raid in a later date. I seriously hope Bungie doesn't charge against us twice or something for that.

I think last week was the first week I never bothered with Nightfall/Weekly/RAID. I got tired of playing the same old things over and over again.I'll play HoW for a month/two then that will be it.

Yeah. It does start to catch up with you alright.

I've lost my interest in this game mostly, and I find the lack of a raid in the House of Wolves disappointing.

At this point, I have all the exotic and raid weapons I care about and don't care about creating 3 different characters (I have 2 titans).
