The Nintendo Switch

Why does Nintendo do what they do?

Do they like to lose money? I swear to god the Big N hates money they just do dumb s*** after dumb s***. They seem to be of the idea we will tell you what you want don't tell us what you want. they also like to seem to confuse the s*** out of people with their consoles reveals now. I mean if this going to be their mean console and a replacement for their handheld ones too?

Looks good. I like the gray color, something different for a launch console. $299 and i'm there. I'll probably never use it on the go. Haven't been a handheld gamer since the DS. Just doesn't appeal to me anymore. Seems like most people are excited for the Switch. Already got a better showing for third party devs lined up with Skyrim and NBA 2K on deck. The thing is, PS4 Pro and Scorpio aren't going to blow the current consoles out of the water because they're just an extension of this gen. So the Switch should do well third party wise as games are still being built for similar hardware.

We aren't sure if it has a touchscreen

I don't they had much reason to have BC when the Wii U has it and nobody bought it. People just don't seem to care.
BC wasn't enough to save Wii U, it had too many other flaws. BC with 3DS software would have been huge IMO.

If it has a touchscreen, why would they sit on that information?
Maybe because just about every cellphone and tablet screen is touch-based. So the assumption (like mine) is it is a touch screen.

Then again, maybe it's not????

Considering how poorly third party sales are on recent Nintendo systems, they are leaving a shytload of money on the table. Of course, their big bet (again) is that they promise big time third party games, so gamers will be happy and they will make royalty cuts of it.

And that was complete BS. Reggie was bullhorning third party support, but after the initial wave of Wii U games came, it was a drought. Most third party devs left.

Then again, I am 100% positive that if Nintendo focused on dedicated handhelds like 3DS which still sells, but for home console gaming went third party making all their hit games for MS, Sony, PC and mobile/tablets, they would exponentially make more profits. And more games in more people's hands means more branding and whatever benefits a bigger user base gets.... microtrans etc...

Isn't that the focus in big business? But maybe not at Nintendo. Despite the usual crowd of wall st analysts and shareholders, maybe they have strong willed execs who never want to give in.... "as it looks bad and is a sign of defeat". Sega had the same choice to make 15 years ago and they went third party.

Their stock has been laughable. Even with the recent bump due to Pokemon Go, their stock has sunk in the past 10 years when just about every other big company at near all time highs. Check out link and do the All or 10 yr filter.

If the rumor is true that Switch falls somewhere between X1 and PS4 in terms of power, that would be pretty damn nice.

I wonder how the battery life is on it.

It would be funny if the wifi/Bluetooth of the controls made it illegal to use on a plane.

Consoles. Not systems.

The mini nes and snes will probably profit more than this thing.

Kind of annoyed Nin won't disclose more info with this thing 5 months away haha.

Wow, to Nintendo's credit, the YouTube reveal trailer has 14 million views already, and 432,000 thumbs up.

There must be quite a few other people besides me that skipped the Wii and Wii U just waiting for Nintendo to make something new.

Will this translate to sales though?

I don't know, stop asking me! Sh*t.

The Wii U announcement video got over 11m views and 42k likes and bombed.

The lastest COD has got lots of negatives but will sell s*** loads so it's impossible to say.

Well it has roughly the same number of views but 10x more likes, so that's gotta be saying something...

I don't know honestly. The mini nes is insane, I have no idea why they wouldn't with the superior games on snes.

Oh, I thought they had maybe announced a Mini SNES to go along with its older bro. I agree, it would rock if they did release one, plus it'd be like printing money.

not agreeing with the superior part but their isn't a correct answer. :p

Both were great really, just a few games pushed snes over for me. The fighting games too were amazing, SF and MK especially, didn't really have those on nes.

Plus you didn't have any racing/3D games on the NES that could stack up to Mario Kart and Star Fox due to technical limitations. It really wasn't even a viable genre for the NES.

SNES definitely had the best games. Chrono Trigger, FF 6, Castlvania IV, Super Contra, Yoshis Island, Mario World, Zelda A Link To the Past, Super Metroid. Too many others to name.

I was mobile and rush work writing... Not moving goal posts but trying to better explain.
I am saying 20+ million from launch to the end of 2019.

That's shockingly poor sales for the amalgamation of Nintendos Console and Handheld business. In 2006 Nintendo would expect 18 million Wiis and 20 million DS over a 12 month period.

Wii U and 3DS would net 15 million a year.

10 million a year would be Nintendo hardware at an all time low. Lets face it, if this thing sold at double or triple the rate of the WiiU for whatever reason, it would still not necessarily be a step forward if you're considering the elimination of the handheld sector.

Onto the product. This could do really well at $149, but it's not going to be less than the 3DS at launch and there will be $249 at a minimum...and as its a console it needs the docking station, cables, leads and a standard controller. I'd guess $299 at the least...and thats a huge problem for Nintendo because both the One S and PS4Pro will UTTERLY demolish the "home console" aspect of it by offering more games at a cheaper price with greater fidelity. Just guessing, the Switch will have a smaller library at the end of 2017 than the amount of Backwards Compatible games on Xbox One (just a small subset of the platforms overall library). Plainview can ban me if it doesn't.

I like the aesthetics of design of the dock which seems really thought out and the controller...Nintendo has made worse ones, this is more traditional, it's something inoffensive unlike the Wii.

Cartridges and it's own screen and sub generational power.... It's more handheld then console. It's a tablet that casts to your tv and you can stick controllers on the side. So the huge secretive Nature of the NX is justified and i bet Nintendo is glad no-one else thought of that

Except they did. $50 or less and will work with devices you already own...success or failure big N, if you can convince people to buy your system with the Xbox/PS as better home consoles and at worst, far cheaper alternatives to your mobile devices, you deserve it.

I don't see it personally.

The biggest thing is, can they release gteat software fast enough. Nintendo has a horrible rep for not getting out their heavy hitters.

I think they addressed that problem a while back, saying that they know they have to get their first party stuff out faster. Whether that happens remains to be seen.
