Tim actually being in the industry and What's he's saying>what some Xbox defenders are saying with no argument and no job in the industry.
I work in the games industry, and have for over 17 years.
I work at MICROSOFT, and have for over 17 years.
I work in the Windows and Devices Group (you know, the group that actually f***ing makes Windows, Xbox, etc).
Tim Sweeney is absolutely wrong, and has a history of being wrong (when it comes to MS hate).
There is no "ransomware" scenario. At all. That's just a false, misleading, garbage statement.
Final plans for Cloud OS haven't been announced, but even if we gave Tim the benefit of the doubt about ANY of his contentions, at worst, that would leave you with possible scenarios where a user could potentially purchase cheap systems which cannot run every software product they own - which is no different from today's hardware scenarios. I have a $2000 PC with a 1080. That PC is not going to lose anything, and never will. MICROSOFT will continue to protect that investment with Windows 10 security, free feature upgrades over time, etc. I will not lose anything on the system to be "ransomed back" to me (pathetic). But, If I buy a $100 used laptop IN ADDITION TO THE MACHINE I ALREADY OWN, and it can't run Gears 4, I won't be able to play Gears 4 ON THAT CHEAP ASS MACHINE, but that doesn't mean I somehow lose it from other machines, or that there's any legitimate "ransom" scenario being played out. It means I can buy additional hardware devices which don't support some of the software products I own.
In no world associated with Windows/Xbox/Microsoft will anyone have anything "taken" from them only to have it ransomed back for a price. That's an outrageous lie.
