I live in the North Bay, California. Massive wildfire plowed through exactly where I live, and it was just reported our entire street is flattened.

Family's safe, so that's what matters.
But damn this is surreal.

f***. In so sorry to hear that, Garp. Yes, everyone is safe, and that’s what’s most important.

Aw, that sucks, man. Sorry to hear it.

That tremendously sucks, but home is where your family is.

You can rebuild, you have the technology (and coverage).

Haven't really followed it on the news but did you have any sort of warning? Any chance to get most valuables out?

Sorry to hear, something like that is very difficult to wrap your head around and even more so for people who haven't had this happen to understand all the thoughts and emotions that go through during a time like this. I hope you are insured by a company that helps you greatly although there are surely many items that simply can't be replaced.

I wish you well for the long road ahead.

Sorry about that mate. I hope it wasn't too traumatic for your family. I'm reading about the fires in Cali now.

I grew up with total fire-bans during summer on a farm, and we'd always load our valuables/photos into suitcases and store them in the boot of a car.

But then in the middle of winter, there was an electrical fire in the middle of the night when I was 11, and all of us were woken by the sounds of canned foods exploding in the kitchen. The house was an old homestead, so the bedrooms were on the opposite end of the house, but for hours, I remember sitting in an old tractor, in my underwear with a towel wrapped around me while the firemen put the house out.

The bright point about it all though, is that we got SNES from the insurance to replace my normal NES. We had to live in a s***ty caravan for a year while the house was rebuilt. It sucked.

Well had to go fast. Got virtually nothing but our IDs, bank cards and our cat. Staying in a hotel in Marin now trying to regroup.

Thank you for the well wishes guys, it really means a lot.

Very sorry to hear it, that happened to my cousin about 10 years ago during the big Anaheim Hills/Yorba Linda fire. Today there was yet another fire in her area and from what I heard there was brush very close to her home that was burning but luckily her house wasn't, hopefully it stays that way.

I feel for you and your family, I'm sure most of the material stuff will be replaced in time but I'm so sorry you and your family have to go through this, at least nobody was hurt.

Dang dude, total suckage. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

I've been there, well when I was younger. Just don't let the insurance cheap you out when the y come to assess your loss/claim, they'll only list what's visible. So make a deep and detailed list of what was in each room, from paper clips to tvs, games (collector editions) to sheets of paper packs that you bought for notes, along with the value of each new.

All the best to ya.

*edit/add*

Hopefully it goes smoother than it did for my cousin, it took three years for her insurance to pay up.

Dang, I think it took over a year and a half to pay up in full. I know they paid a small lump sum up front and even paid for the house we were staying in whilst they repaired ours.

Update:

We're still in the hotel, and it should be clear to head up to our neighborhood in Santa Rosa today. Not really looking forward to that, but we have to do it. From what I've seen the general area looks like Fallout 4, and apparently there are even looters now.

Again thank you guys for all the love.

Take pictures. Seriously. Document it. Document it for insurance purposes and also for recollection.

So sorry to hear about this. All I can say is try to keep a level head and keep in mind what's really important in life. Things will suck in the short term but you will get through it.

I can't imagine what you and your family a going through. So, so sorry!

I think I speak for everybody; let us know if we can help in any way.

SANTA ROSA, Calif. — After battling massive, fast-moving wildfires that have killed at least 11 people and torched more than 100,000 acres across Northern California, most of them in wine country, firefighters are hoping for some reprieve Tuesday morning as strong winds that fanned flames the day before continue to weaken.

Crews are fighting 17 wildfires that destroyed at least 1,500 homes and commercial buildings across several Northern California counties and sent more than 20,000 people fleeing for safety.

So sorry to hear of your loss, I can't begin to imagine :( A bright spot that you and your family are safe and unharmed though.

Oh man im really sorry to hear this. I know the next couple of months will be difficult but try to find a silver lining. Maybe your next place will work better for the family? Perhaps more room or closer to schools or work?
Seems like a good opportunity to get a phat OLED big screen too once you get settled in.
The most important thing though is everyone is ok.

I think it's from around the area where his house is.

It is. Still not allowed to go back, according to the sheriff, due to possible dangers. We got arial drone pictures of what's left of our address at least.

I want to write more, tell you all how it went down the night of, but I dont have tons of time these days. Just feels better to talk about this here... I'll definitely give you the full story down the line... maybe even pics. It helps. Love you guys.
