Xbox One sales are about 20.4million in the US LTD. At the time Xbox 360 has sold 20.4million units in the US Xbox 360 had shipped 41.8 million units globally. So generally Xbox One is 6+ months in advance of Xbox 360 in terms of sales and probably has a total shipment of 44-45 million based on doubling US sales and adding 10%.

e.g 1.8m x 2 + 10% = 3.9million

Xbox 360 + Xbox 1 in Nov/Dec 2013 = 3,107,000+
Xbox One + Xbox One X in Nov/Dec 2017 - 2,700,000+

US performance is slightly below Xbox 1 + Xbox 360 in 2013, so should ship within 10% of same in 2014 (14.5 million) in 2018.

Exceed if Halo and Price drop on X.

Hot take.

2018 = Best Xbox year of all time worldwide sales. (so far)

Hotter take = Xbox One family to exceed 60 million in USA by 2025.

65 million people in the UK. I guess it's not as big as I thought there.

Keep in mind the 360 is the best selling console here in the UK at over 8m so while its the 2nd biggest market it's well behind the US. Most games in the charts are doing less than 15k each week

Still crash did very well especially for 3 old games.

Yeah still no digital in the UK charts for a while other wise PUBG is the No.1 selling console exclusive

Are you including the year-long PC sales in that, or just the two months of Xbox One sales?

PUBG also has bundles going for it as the link I posted mentions

Does GK-whatever (the UK sales tracker) count bundled games as separate sales? Or is it like NPD, where bundled games don't get counted?

Yeah, it's not a big country, but it gets a disproportionate interest in Sales threads. One reason is that they give out weekly unit game sales data, unlike NPD. Another is that a lot of people on forums are from the UK.

Just to clarify, it's the second biggest market for Xbox (that's probably what you meant), but it's not the second biggest market for overall console sales. Europe is the second biggest market, but UK is just a small fraction of Europe. (You probably know this already, lol. I'm just clarifying for anyone listening in.)

Zhuge puts things in perspective:

... What's the takeaway from this?

The Switch had a strong December and has now sold 4.8 million units in the US as of the end of 2017. This makes it the fastest selling home console over the first 10 months in the US. It is extremely successful.

Xbox One had its best November ever thanks to the launch of Xbox One X. The continued momentum, alongside a $189 deal for the One S, allowed it to achieve strong sales in the U.S. during December too, outselling the PS4.

The PS4 had its best month ever in the U.S. during November thanks to $199 deals. Sales declined in December as those same deals weren't available. Despite that the console saw global annual sell through increase 15% YoY to 20.2 million.

There's a leak at Resetera, suggesting that Xbox was 91% of Switch sales in December, and PS4 was 72%.

https://www.resetera.com/posts/3194466/

If that's accurate, and assuming Switch is between 1.4 and 1.5 million (as estimated earlier), then December NPD looks something like this:

Switch 1.45 million
Xbox 1.32 million
PS4 1.04 million

GTA back at No.1 in the UK

14th time it's been No.1 since its original release.

Looking at Amazon it seems that the PS Pro hype has died down dramatically, it's at number 86 right now and behind 2 other Xbox offerings including the X1X which is ranked at 63. The first PS console on the list is a $287 PS4 Slim coming in at 39. Followed by 1 of 6 Xbox skus at 45.

Oh, okay, so it's

1. Switch
2. Xbox
3. Playstation

As I predicted, thank you, what do I win.

So even when Xbox beats PS they still lose to someone else overall. Like when Wii beat both 360 and PS3 and people kept saying but at least Xbox beat PS!

Just kidding. Or am i really triggered as a PS fan at heart? The world may never know. Awesome for Xbox though, i'd be concerned if the X1 didn't beat out PS4 at some point. Wonder if the 'people are waiting for PS5' excuse fits or if that only applies when talking about Xbox though.

No doubt, Xbox had a strong November and December. December in particular was stronger than many expected. Good for MS and the Xbox brand. It's nice to see them looking strong for a change.

I've got to assume PUBG was part of that surge. I've got no interest in that sort of game myself, but I can't deny its popularity. MS scored big by getting that as a timed exclusive. It was a smart move, because it is so well targeted toward the type of gamer who would lean toward Xbox (oriented toward online gaming and multiplayer shooters). I don't know how much MS paid to secure the exclusivity, but I'm assuming they are coming out on top, given PUBG's system selling capacity and the revenue generated from that.

For all the bad sales talk Mass Effect Andromeda keeps popping up in top 20 selling games in various countries.

And yes the Sims needs to die

Gran Turismo Sport didn't make the chart
Forza 7 didn't make the chart
Forza Horizon 3 didn't make the chart
Project Cars 2 didn't make the chart
Assetto Corsa didn't make the chart

But a cartoony racer made the chart. Maybe games don't need to be so realistic looking?

Well, #20 isn't great for Mass Effect. Had the quality been up to usual standards, it would've ranked in the Top Ten. We know that it under-performed, and that Bioware wasn't happy with the sales.

Some people liked the game, to be sure. But I'd attribute it's #20 rank mostly to name recognition. It's a famous franchise, and people were eager for the next installment. They were going to buy regardless.

Btw, note that the #20 placement is based on unit sales, not on revenue. Andromeda's price dropped rapidly. I got it for $20 within a few months of its release, iirc. So maybe half those sales were in the $20 to $40 range.

I don't know about the others, but the first two (GT Sport and Forza 7) weren't released until October, so they'd be at a disadvantage, since the chart covers all of 2017. Games released earlier in the year (e.g., Mario Kart) would have an advantage.

NPD data should be out tomorrow, so that'll be interesting.

Nah. Mario Kart is a casual racer, it appeals to people who aren't into racers. Not too mention it has the market to itself. Where as those who didn't chart all have plenty of competition.

NPD #s for Nintendo:

REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nintendo Switch sold more units in December than any other video game system, according to the NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Holiday shoppers purchased 1.5 million Nintendo Switch systems during the five-week reporting period of December, which is a critical month for the video game industry. Since its launch 10 months ago, Nintendo Switch has sold more than 4.8 million units, making it the fastest-selling home console in U.S. history.

If that earlier leak* was correct (no one has disputed it yet), then that would make PS4 1.08 million and Xbox 1.365 million for December.

Some observations:

December:
- 7 Nintendo exclusives in the Top 20.
- Xenoblade Chronicles is looking like it did reasonably well after all.
- PUBG did very well, considering it's a $30 game and this is a revenue-based chart

Best selling games of 2017:
- 7 are GaaS games, and 3 are Nintendo games.
- Nintendo had the only exclusives in the Top 10, and it had 3 of them.

Misc: "The combined hardware installed base of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One now exceeds that of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 by 18 percent."

I don't know about the others, but the first two (GT Sport and Forza 7) weren't released until October, so they'd be at a disadvantage, since the chart covers all of 2017. Games released earlier in the year (e.g., Mario Kart) would have an advantage.

The racing genre is now niche confirmed.

Didn't the PS4 had supply issues in the month of December? I recalled a few members at Slickdeals, Fatwallet, nowinstock, and CAG reporting it. Well in Los Angeles it was for me. Here is a photo I took last month. There was plenty of X1 and Switch though.

I saw 0 mention of any of the consoles having supply issues over Christmas.

Not that it matters as all 3 did very well.
