It is that time of the year again! Yes we are less than two months away now which is crazy how time has crept up on us. This E3 will be a very interesting one as we will not seeing God Of War, Detroit, SOTC, Uncharted TLL and Horizon from last years conference. So which games will fill that void?

First party as the driver:

Expect games like the Last Of Us Part 2, Death Stranding, Days Gone, Ghost of Tsushuima and Dreams to feature heavily in this conference. TLOU 2, Death Stranding and Ghost of Tsushima all should have gameplay unveilings which is very excited considering the pedigree of all 3 developers and all 3 games are completely different from each other eschewing the narrative that Sony games are similar. Days Gone will have a trailer as we have seen two gameplay showings but it should have a release date and should be playable on the show floor. Expect early Q1 release date. Dreams will also get a beta to try and convince gamers on its untapped potential. Oh how could I also forget Spider-man, which I expect to receive another trailer.

As for unannounced stuff it is a little trickier as most of their first party has announced their games. Japan Studio are heavily rumoured to be working on a sci-fi RPG whilst Manchester studio should have a new VR game to announce. You cannot also rule out a Fromsoft and Japan Studio collaboration on another project but it won't be Bloodborne 2; sorry folks not happening yet. There are also rumours of Devil May Cry 5 being console exclusive, so well will see about that. Sony could easily hire quality devs as we have seen with Insomniac, Quantic Dream and Kojima Productions.

3rd party to be on the backburner:

Whilst 1st party will dominate a lot of this conference you will still see a good amount of third party titles. We will see the new Call of Duty and potentially a trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2. As for other third party I expect to see Kingdom Hearts 3 with a good showing and a game from Ubisoft to show up, probably Watch Dogs 3 since the first two were aligned with Playstation. I don't expect them to lean as heavily as Microsoft on 3rd party as the PS4 is the defacto mulitplatform system as it's the highest selling console by some margin.

As always we will see some new VR games but it is hard to state whether they will have a big impact or be the weaker points of the conference. Hopefully PSN name changes too lol.

All in all I expect a similar conference to last year with one or two announcements but the first gameplay for TLOU PT 2, Death Stranding and GoT will make it noticeably better and will once again highlight that Sony investments into high quality single player games continues to pays dividends.

What are your thoughts?

Nice job with the OP. I'll ponder and return with thoughts later.

Isn’t CODs marketing contract up with PS?

I want to see if there’s gonna be any kind of major update for GT.

Detroit can’t come home soon enough.

Has Sony announced when and where there press briefing will be?

I'm interested in hearing more about Ghost of Tshushima, because I don't have a feel for that game.

The Last of Us will be a crowd-pleaser, I'm sure, but I'll probably cover my eyes and ears. I feel like they spoil too much of the game by dribbling it out beforehand. Uncharted 4 suffered from that -- we knew about most of the big action scenes and had a sense of the family drama before we'd even played it. I'd rather stay in the dark about TLoU 2.

Same goes for Spider-Man, really. I know we'll see it and people will be excited, but I don't need to see more, at this point. I know I'll get it. I'd rather be surprised.

I've heard that Days Gone is hitting its developmental milestones before schedule, and the delay to Q1 was more about calendar scheduling than it was about delays in development. So that one is on track. A trailer and specific release date would be good. Additional demo footage would be overkill.

Dreams - I think this will flop. I just don't think people will take to it. I could be wrong. I often am about these things. But it just seems like it's the one high-profile Sony exclusive that is too niche to make a big splash. I think most average gamers don't even understand it.

Death Stranding - I expect this in 2020, so it's too far away for me to get pumped up about. We'll probably we'll see another weird-ass trailer.

FFVII - hopefully it'll appear, we haven't heard anything for a while.

Shenmue 3 - yeah right.

Kingdom Hearts 3 - I'd like to see more; the last footage I saw looked great.

+ VR titles
+ indie titles
+ other 3rd party stuff
+ Sypro remaster
+ reminding people of God of War and Detroit and their commitment to great games
+ awkward humor

Other than that, I'm hoping for some interesting surprises. I'm not betting on them, though, because I think Sony can put in a good-enough E3 just relying on what we know already, which means they could save the surprises for later. Gotta pace yourself.

There is no way Media Molecule survives after Dreams releases. Game has been in development too long and won't appeal to enough people to make back its dev costs.

I am interested in Days Gone but needs to release well in advance of TLOU 2. Like at least five or six months.

Media Molecule are still making profit every year on the back of LBP. They will be fine.

Lookin forward to seein Ghosts and TLOU2 and more Spidey Man and Days Gone. Will be interesting to see just what Death Stranding actually is.

Highly doubt you will see RDR2, though.

Media Molecule is a small development team and Little Big Planet was a hit franchise. Especially with Sony, I think they're pretty safe from studio closure right now. They'll survive one dud, if Dreams is even that.

There may be more interest in a game like Dreams than I appreciate. I look at Dreams and think, "Who wants to sit around building a game level all day? That's what I pay developers for." But then, lots of other people really seem to enjoy building and crafting things. I've been flabbergasted by the popularity of games like Minecraft, for instance.

I do get it, at one level. When I was a kid, I used to spend hours building and creating stuff. Of course, this was pre-computer, so I used stuff like Lincoln Logs, modeling clay, pen and paper, plastic army men, and so forth. But it was the same idea. So I get the appeal on that level.

With these crafty games, they really seem hit or miss. I guess we'll see if Dreams strikes a chord with people or not.

I'm looking forward to seeing more of Ghost of Tshushima and Spiderman. Everything else is a bonus.

Bluepoint (SotC, Uncharted trilogy, others) is working on another remaster. It's possible we'll see that revealed at the Sony presser.

1. Metal Gear Solid
2. Socom 2
3. Demon's Souls

Those are my hopes.

I think it is a big too early for another one unless they started work during SOTC.

Syphon Filter remasters.

A guy can dream.

If we look at what Ruin4r (a Sony insider) said in 2015 on Reddit for E3:

Dead don't ride, TLOU2, Unnamed Space Game, Crash Bandicoot, New God of War, The Last Guardian. He also said a Spy Cooper game.

All of these have come true apart from Sly Cooper and the space game. Sly Cooper could easily happen and the space game is heavily rumoured to be from Japan Studios who had just in April Shawn Layden and product strategist Job Webb checking in Tokyo Japan teasing more greatness awaits. Japan Studios do not usually get people this high up checking in on them so it must be something much bigger than their previous titles plus this game has been in the works for years and Japan Studios restructured in 2014.

That is all I have for leaks apart from the rumoured Devil May Cry 5 exclusive.

I just remember the one where you played as Kain and were able to use mind control on people as one of your powers etc, had a lot of fun with that game. It was on the OG Xbox and I remember going through what looked like an old European town.

Those don't interest me, but a Resistance Collection would. I know they are busy with Spider-man, but I can dream.

Well Bluepoint would be doing the remaster if it is that series. Which I wouldn’t mind. R1 & R3 were pretty good.

Motorstorm trilogy-or atleast the 2nd one- remaster would be good. Sony is lacking in the arcade racer department.
