Help Picking a New TV

Buydig is awesome, had the lowest price by far. No tax, free shipping and I will have my TV on Thursday.

Yup and let me add...you also could/should buy a AVR that has 4K/60/HDR( and preferably Dolby Vision HDR Atmos/Dts X support)passthrough and you will be set.

With many models having more HDMI ports than splitters.

Anyone getting a Sony 4K HDR tv just remember that only inputs 2 and 3 are fully able to do 4K and HDR,

On mine, it's input 1 and 2, I think. I have a 900E.

Current: 1080p 65in Samsung
Want: 4K HDR, obviously, 65in and under $900

Some guidance would be helpful in helping me select a new TV. Here are a couple I am currently looking at.

The LG is priced at 650 while the Sammy is 900. The LG's price point is very enticing but if the quality is bad then obviously I wouldn't get it.

I had a 55" Samsung 1080p and loved it. Between those two, I'd go with Samsung.

If you can pay a little more, I'd get a Sony 900E or a similar model.

Ah that's surprising, most of the Sony's that I've read have all had it on input 2 and 3, according to RTINGS it's 2 and 3 on yours too :) It's so silly of Sony to do this, I'm sure it saves a few bucks and up until recently it was probably enough to get by but now 4K blu ray players are affordable and we have 4 consoles that support HDR on the market (PS4, Pro, One S, One X) and while the One X supports 4K blu ray playback it's just not all that good at it compared to stand alone players so I needed more than 2 inputs that could support 4K and HDR.

So is anything exciting coming in the next year or so..? For instance, 4K came out, then HDR got implemented after. As usually, early adopters got screwed.

I know tech is always improving, but if I’m looking at a new set in the next year or so, is there anything coming that I should wait for specifically?

OLEDs are getting more affordable every year, I bought the new 65” LG C8 OLED. It is amazing best TV ever.

Yeah it's too bad, they do so many things right but the fear of buying a tv and having that kind of burn in happen will keep me from ever getting one.

I have a 4-5 year old top-of-the-line plasma that was supposed to not have a problem with burn in, but BF 1 proved that to be false. :-/

So while I hope it doesn’t happen to anyone that gets and OLED, I can’t see myself getting one for the same reason.

Yeah I see OLED as the second coming of Plasma, they look superior in many ways to LCD/LED but that comes at a cost and it's not one I'm willing to pay. I've been tempted a few times but I just know with my luck I'll have something burned in fairly quickly.

Sorry to hear about your TV having that issue, a lot of people would swear by Plasma and say "oh that burn in stuff is blown out of proportion" but the fact that it can happen at all and with most games being played for at least an hour or more at a time I just don't trust any tech that's susceptible to burn in.

Agreed. Sucks because the picture is still as good as a lot of the 4K sets I’ve seen, and I love the look of the OLED stuff.

I still have the last Plasma Panasonic made. Image quality is still pretty good with no image retention but the amount of effort I had to baby the thing with when it was new was unheard of. That alone will keep me away from OLEDs until the tech matures.

I still haven't upgraded. Still have 50ish inch Samsung Plasma. I don't play console games that much anymore, so most of my TV viewing is either sports or streaming TV or shows. Sure I could take advantage of what Netflix has but not sure if Hulu or Amazon has 4k options yet. I was thinking something like the 55" TCL 6 series since it's only like $600, plus a new receiver to make use of 4k and HDR stuff all for under $1k wouldn't be bad. We'll see...
