Sony Is Skipping E3 2019

You yourself even said BC wasn't as big of a deal as you thought it would be not too long ago.

I changed my mind about BC (again, lol). Now I think it's great. Essential, even. It's great to have access to some OG Xbox games (with greatly improved graphics) and almost all 360 games.

I've been enjoying the MCC lately. Playing through the first part of that first campaign is so good in 4K/HDR. Looks great.

Is it worth an additional $500 when GP is a service you have to pay for and is inflated with a bunch of games you likely would never have wanted to play anyway?

I can find at least 6 to 8 games that are worth trying out on GP. Forza Horizon 4, Gears 4, Halo 5, MCC, Quantum Break, Sunset Overdrive, Ryse, Rise of the Tomb Raider, Rime, etc. I could probably find a dozen.

That's fine, I was only saying I can't recommend buying an X if you ALREADY own a Pro, for people who have the extra money that's totally fine but I to me I don't think the X offers enough to make it worth spending ANOTHER $500 on top of the $400 someone already spent on a Pro.
I got you but most that have the Pro already had a PS4 before.
Launch PS4 owners spent $400 and another $400 for the Pro.

That type another $500($400 atm) isn't a big issue.

To me it sounded like JinCA was saying it isn't worth it, if you already own the Pro. For those people, it'd be $500 (or $400 now) -- assuming they don't have an X1 they could trade in.

I disagree with that. I think it's well worth it, but i guess I already said that.
Poor wording on his part:

“ It's not $500 better than the Pro but it's better”

Are those games you would have purchased though? That's what I'm saying, it's fine for what it is but it's also highly inflated with 360 games that get no One X enhancements at all. It's a nice optional service for people who don't buy a lot of games but for those of us who basically buy every new big game that comes out it's kind of less of a big deal, well unless you plan on staying subbed for a length of time and like MS exclusives.

I just don't see the value in going with the One X if you already have a Pro unless you like MS's games. Sony offers near 4K quality, their first party games for the most part look as good or better than anything that takes full advantage of the One X and you only have to pay for one online service etc. I played some Spider-Man again last night and while I would say RDR2 is one of the most beautiful games I have ever played it doesn't look as sharp at native 4K as Spider-Man does with it's "faux K" of course I'm not comparing what each game does, other than being open world they don't have much in common.

You said " a bunch of games you likely would never have wanted to play anyway?"

You didn't say purchased, you said played. I wanted to play them. I may not have wanted to buy them, but I wanted to at least play them a little.

For example, Forza Horizon 4, Ryse, Gears 4, Halo 5 -- I doubt I'd pay money to buy those games, but I'd be interested in "renting" them through Game Pass.

Yeah, I'm definitely not someone who "buys every new big game that comes out." I will buy maybe 10% of the big games that come out, Day 1, $60. The rest I'll pass on or wait.

Yeah when I want to play something I buy it, then again I have a problem, I buy too many games lol.

Sooooooo, I did the opposite, have an X and just bought a Pro, cos of the stupidly loud and annoying launch PS4. It could be setup in any another room some 20+/6+ feet/meters away with the door closed and still be heard, even with a headset on.

Sony consoles are worth buying for the exclusives alone IMO, I can't say that for MS right now and probably not the rest of this generation based on what they've announced so far. Of course that's up to each individual but Halo and Gears aren't my thing anymore, I gave the last two a shot even though I was already not interested and they had awful story modes.

To each their own indeed. Only got a PS4 for gran turismo, horizon zero dawn was a pleasant suprise, and whatever their Japan studio and LBP studio were to make (dreams) uncharted or the last of us never really held my attention besides being in awe for the passion the devs exfoliate from their dev talks/presentations. Oh, Tetris Effect is major bonus as was, for the time, No Mans Sky

Yeah I couldn't care less about playing GT but it's a very popular series :) I still haven't played NMS but it looks like they've made it much more like the game that was promised initially vs what buyers got at launch.

If Sony took 2019 off to get ready for next gen I wouldn't hold it against them. I'm a little disappointed too but they have a great line up for the next 2 years now it's time for a new gen. The PS4 delivered and will keep delivering.

PS4 AAA (2019/2020)

1. Ghost of Tsushima
2. Deathstranding
3. Dreams
4. Days Gone
5. Nioh 2
6. MLB series
7. TLOU 2
8. Granblue Fantasy (Platinum ARPG)
9. Judge Eyes
10. Project Awakening
11. Left Alive
12. Medival Remake
13. Yakazu series

Indie

13. Lost Soul Aside
14. Concrete Genie
15. Wild
16. Hong Kong Massacre
17. Shenmue 3

(That don't include PsVR titles)

If they keep me busy I don't mind when games are announced. It sounds to me like a trivial thing to whine about especially considering PlayStation is pumping out more 3A games than Xbox or Nintendo.

The Xbox relies on power and services to sale it's platform. They haven't had much of anything outside Halo Gears Forza when it comes to AAA. Pretty much everything outside these games are average which is why "Xbox has no games" stigma continues. They haven't had GotY contenders in a long time.

Sony did a great job with new IP's heading into next gen. They have a LOT to look forward too they even got Spider-Man.

Buying just for exclusives the Switch would fit the bill.
But imo just for exclusives isn't enough well at least Sony's as they have terrible replay value.

Yeah it's a good list. The next 2 years for Sony is stacked.

It is, although I'd quibble that #8 to #13 aren't actually AAA titles. (I don't mean to imply that AAA is superior, and AA is inferior.)

Most gamers count SoT and Crackdown as AAA I don't see how these are any different? Platinum is a well known Japanese AAA company and Medievil remake is built from the ground up (pretty much like R&C).

The Platinum game I could see as AAA, but I don't think the others are. Medieval is a very simple game. Not AAA by any stretch. I love Yakuza but its budget is definitely AA. Same for Project Awakening, Judge Eyes, and Left Alive. All AA, imo.

Those who would say sot and crackdown 3 are AAA... Should quit the drugs.

I could see Crackdown as AAA. (I define AAA in terms of budget.) Sea of Thieves maybe, too. Big first-party investment.

It seems like everyone has a different idea of what AAA actually is. There's no real standard or measurement that qualifies as AAA.

I thought Medieval looked great in it's recent trailer. Graphically it's no different than Spyro which I consider AAA.

Either way it's all opinion I guess.

It's a confusing term, to be sure. That's why I put my definition of it (which I think is the most common use). I'm not clear on how you're defining it.

It's up to what each person likes of course, I wouldn't buy a Nintendo console just for the exclusives because their games don't even hit 1080p and frankly they started seeming like the same basic experience over and over to me many years ago.

I go by internet stamdards but even then you'll see debates/arguments about what counts as AAA

Judging by Twitterb (and most websites) pple see games like Crash as AAA. With that being said I think Medieval counts as AAA.

Yeah, I think of AAA strictly in terms of budget. By that metric, neither of those (especially Medieval) would be AAA. But, definitions differ.
