My House burned down

It is. Still not allowed to go back, according to the sheriff, due to possible dangers. We got arial drone pictures of what's left of our address at least.

I want to write more, tell you all how it went down the night of, but I dont have tons of time these days. Just feels better to talk about this here... I'll definitely give you the full story down the line... maybe even pics. It helps. Love you guys.
Whatever you need, we're here for you. Talk, write, financial, you know we're here for you.

Reminds me of that video in Tennessee I think of the person trying to escape fires there.

Here it is. Such a bizarre feeling looking at it this way, even in such low res.

Insurance people have seemed pretty helpful and reasonable so far, but I'm not taking any chances. I'll likely have a lawyer look at any major thing we might have to sign.

Fire spreading again now just east of our neighborhood. Our insurance adjuster was supposed to meet with us to view our property tomorrow, but cops are stopping anyone from coming in, even residents. Now they're saying Thursday.

Meanwhile we're choking on all this damn smoke blowing south.

Good news is insurance will pay for temp housing.

Glad you've got insurance, Garp. I know you've lost irreplaceable items and items of sentimental value, though. It must be bizarre and very stressful to have your whole house and neighborhood wiped out. I'm glad everyone in your family is okay, and that you're covered by insurance.

What's the status with your job? Are they giving you paid time off to take care of all this?

I'm extremely fortunate in that I can work remotely, but yeah I'm getting time.

It's been just a crazy rollercoaster of emotions, yeah. Sometimes you wake up thinking you're on vacation for a second and think you can go back home. Other times you're just numb. But yes, we're all together, safe, and starting a new chapter.

Can't thank you guys enough for all the kind words and support.

We're all a bunch of refugees here. :)

We found an incredibly nice police detective who drove us through the evacuation zone to our house.

Here it is. Didn't find much but a few beers in our outside mini fridge. We're keeping one as a memento. The detective had us take a pic with it. He's hoping to send the pic to Lagunitas (famous local brewery) to help start a charitable campaign.

And maybe some of my jokes here are in poor taste, but I use humor to help cope with stuff.

I’m so sorry man. Not sure how many times we can say it?

No need to keep saying it, I feel all the love. I just wish we could all have a drink together or something. Family and friends are here, but I also want to hang with my UnionVGF pals.:bang:

I love the humor, actually made me laugh even while looking at those pics.

Ah shyt. That sucks Garp.

But good to hear everyone is ok at least.

Insurance put you up in a hotel. So now what? If it takes a year or two for insurance to clean up and rebuild the neighbourhood, then you stay there the whole time? Is there a time limitation or anything?

It's amazing when you hear stories like this as you don't think you'll actually bump into someone who gets affected by big forest fires.

As an aside, I know a friend who had their house burn to the ground...... no joke.... they did laundry and forgot to clean out the lint trap in the dryer. They were ok and stayed with family till the house was rebuilt.

Amazingly, we can get temp housing for up to a year. We're in the process now of working out where.

...and here's one last pic of us and our fellow beer survivor.

Haha.

Your pic reminds of the time I was sitting in the upper deck of a hockey game. A guy holding beers is double fisted and racing up the steep stairs. Stumbles, probably scrapes a knee and may have also scraped his chin. A total clutz, BUT he sure had the reflexes to keep his arms up saving the beers. He probably lost no more than a few drops of those delicious suds.

A guy at an aisle seat even yelled.... "save the beers!"
