Sony 900E (DF pick)

What you using now?

Right now it's a 1080p Samsung, bought for about $1400, 4 or 5 yrs ago. It's a nice TV.

I expected to buy into 4K next year, but I figured why wait. I can at least enjoy Horizon, Spidey, Days Gone, God of War, and Detroit in 4K/HDR.

I'm also buying into PSVR.

Damn, I'm a Sony boy now.

I was wondering because I wanted to know what kind of a jump you will get.

Sounds like it should be pretty nice. 65" rather than 55", HDR, 4K, plus the highest-rated set. It's got to be good.

My old set is fine but it's basic 1080p. Time to move up.

Whatever. I just need to know how to plug it in.

Mine arrived today. I'm 4K/HDR now.

p.s. It's funny, I could be playing Horizon in 4K/HDR but instead I'm playing low-rez Skyrim. Not even looking at the TV, lol.

Finally grabbed the 55'' set along with a new 4k A/V Receiver yesterday, should have it during the week, saved 700 bucks in all, can't wait to start playing Origins on the X on this, and Frozen Wilds on the Pro:banana::txbcool:

Watching some 4K content (Zion Ntl Park) was very nice. I'm going to enjoy this TV.

Check out Marco Polo on Netflix, it's a really nice looking show, both seasons are 4K and the second one is HDR as well. Of course they have a lot of shows on Netflix that are 4K but that one has some pretty nice outdoor shots.

Never had as much trouble calibrating a set as this one lol...It looks good most of the time but when HDR is on,I find the dark area's,stuff at night, things like that a little too, well dark lol...then it switches to something outside or in daylight and the contrast is low and it looks a little too bright, like not enough contrast...Netflix on the Pro for example, watching Marco Polo...just got it yesterday, still need to play around with it...Game Mode looks bad I think so you have to adjust a few things, including some that defeats the purpose of using that mode...Zero Dawn looks great but again, when its night,or late evening, its too dark...

What setting are you guys using..?

I used the ones listed here:

Val said he has some to suggest, too.

I haven't watched enough 4K content yet to really know if there are issues. To tell the truth, even though I have a solid 4K TV, I still barely watch any 4K content. I briefly had a Netflix 4K sub, but I don't watch enough of their 4K shows to justify the additional expense. I don't watch much TV. As for gaming, I've been spending most of my game time with PSVR, so the TV is a non-issue there. When I watch TV, I'm usually watching Youtube interviews/clips that aren't even in 1080p.

Thanks...yeah been looking at the Neogaf post and also Rtings settings...cant stand Expert 1 mode though lol but everything else looks good...finally got my old PC to get sound again but I have to switch the Extended HDMI thing back each time I go from my 4K HDR consoles to my PC and Satellite set top box(which are 1080p and 720p) otherwise I get the picture but without sound,weird..oh well,it will do for now. ;)

I posted this in the Xbox 4k thread too. I've had sporadic handshaking issues where my Panny home theatre system wouldn't turn on when I turn on Xbox. The TV turns on but my HTS would still be off......... I think I got a fix if any of you are getting the same thing......

I think I found the solution to the handshaking issue.... though it's only been test late last night and today, and it works.

In the device control menu where you specify what happens when you turn Xbox on..... TV/AV on, off, toggle, I used to have the TV and AV set at on and off. When Xbox is turned on, they turn on, when I shut down Xbox, they go off.

But I set them now to toggle. And it works.

The options screen even says if On/Off don't work, try toggle. And so far, it works.

My old Panny plasma with Panny home theatre had the settings at on/off and it all worked. Maybe with unmatching brands (TV = Sony, AV = Panny), it leads to sporadic handshake issues. Who knows,

Well damn. I just realized I wasent getting any upscaling on my cable box.
I had the settings on enhanced for that input so the tv didn't try to upscale the standard 1080i / 720P signal.
This was the one aspect of the tv I wasn't impressed with but now it looks much better.

Got an auto update yesterday...it felt a little weird, first time I have a set that upgrades with a new firmware...general performances and something about Dolby Vision I believe.

Still loving the set beside the constant switching of the HDMI enhanced/standard format thing but this will be resolve when I ditch my Satellite TV dish for fiber...also does anyone notice a greenish color in a lot of inside area's,I mean like watching a normal TV show when they are inside a garage or something, instead of the plain cement wall being grey, they re more greenish...? I even have my Hue at R1 but its still there sometimes.(black hair sometimes looks greenish also).

Maybe return the set? It sounds like non stop non satisfaction.
The 900F is coming,is better, has the X1 extreme chip and Dolby Vision(900E don't)

A 75 inch wang... I'd have to get my pants altered.

I'm enjoying my 900E, too. No issues. I'm probably easy to please in this department. Sometimes I wonder why I bothered, because most of what I watch isn't nearly 4K. But it's a great picture when I do watch 4K content.

Nah,not yet...I love it for games and BR/UHD and all,its just my TV source(720P)that looks weird at times but like I said, getting fiber with a DVR that supports the enhanced HDMI format...yeah the 900F will be better but also more expensive...

Maybe more expensive than what the 900E is going for now as they are moving em out but not than what the 900E retailed for.

The recent update is causing problems for some people, including me. What happens is, when you boot up a game with HDR on your PS4 Pro, the TV shuts down and gives you a red, flashing light. You have to reboot the TV, and then it works as intended. Apparently, when you go from non-HDR content to HDR content, the TV shuts down. This has only happened since the update, so something in the update f*cked up the communication between the PS4 and TV. Sony is aware of the issue and is working on a fix. Kind of annoying.

Got it fixed now, at least until Sony issues a patch. The problem (at least for me) was fixed when I switched the picture display from Game Mode to Standard mode.

Happy to have HDR back.

Thats a weird fix lol but it looks like it works for many...I never had the problem though, the only game I played since this started was Deus Ex which has HDR on the PS4 and it never shut down...anyway I leave it on Standard most of the time now and I just turn off MotionFlow and Cinemotion when I game...I only switch from Standard when I use Valliance's settings for Netflix/4k movies.
