Bayonetta 2, Switch version (Feb. 16)

I think the Switch port has a lot of potential sales wise, and it'll build up big hype for Bayonetta 3

Looks like another great exclusive for the Switch.

Bayonetta 2 Switch Review Roundup
How does the action game fare on Nintendo Switch?

"February has been a busy month for Nintendo Switch owners so far, and that only continues this week with the release of Bayonetta 2. Platinum Games' acclaimed action game arrives on Switch nearly four years after it originally debuted on Wii U back in 2014, and it has the distinction of being one of the few games to earn a rare 10 out of 10 from GameSpot."

"Bayonetta 2 never strives to be anything less than the purest, rarest kind of action-game experience, one that values skill, reaction times, and sheer spectacle over all else--realism and storytelling be damned," critic Mark Walton wrote in GameSpot's original Bayonetta 2 review. "Sure, you can feel the influence of the likes of Devil May Cry and Ninja Gaiden in Bayonetta 2's combat, and see it in its wonderfully outlandish visuals. But neither of those games, nor the many that followed in their footsteps, come close to the brilliance of Bayonetta 2."

Both titles are available individually on the Switch Eshop, but those who pick up a physical copy of Bayonetta 2 will also receive a download code for the original Bayonetta.

Launch trailer:

"In performance terms, Bayonetta 2 in particular is much improved. It’s an ambitious, barn-storming sequel that turns just about every aspect of the original game up to eleven, something the Wii U version often struggled with. It was without doubt a brilliant game with smart tweaks and additions over the first, but uneven and sometimes outright rough performance served to drag it down. Mercifully, that’s not nearly so much the case here."

"On Switch, Bayonetta 2 runs at 720p in both docked and handheld modes, but that’s a sacrifice made in order to target 60 frames per second. The original release of the game proved just how vital to performance 60fps can be, and this Switch version thus fixes those problems. Docked, the game gets much closer to maintaining its 60fps target, the result more crisp and immediate feeling combat. There’s a sacrifice, obviously, which is that the 720p presentation can look muddy on larger screens."

Handheld seems to be the way to go here. The higher frames per second is more of a necessity than a higher resolution. Still, 720 is quite low for docked.

Unless I'm misreading (always a possibility, I haven't had my coffee yet), I think it says the framerate is more stable docked.

Have played the first game twice (second time when it came with Bayonetta 2) and second just once. Great series so would definitely play it again. Would be great to get a PC version of the second game though. :(

You're right. My wording was poor and misleading. I meant to say something along the lines as to how I can see frames being more of a consideration than resolution. Switch's novelty to me is the handheld factor and 60 fps (mostly) here as a handheld speaks to me.
