Sony 900E (DF pick)

Thats a weird fix lol but it looks like it works for many...I never had the problem though, the only game I played since this started was Deus Ex which has HDR on the PS4 and it never shut down...anyway I leave it on Standard most of the time now and I just turn off MotionFlow and Cinemotion when I game...I only switch from Standard when I use Valliance's settings for Netflix/4k movies.

One thing I learned about Standard mode is that it has much greater input lag than Game mode. 109 ms. in Standard mode, and < 35 for Game mode or Graphics mode (Game mode and Graphics mode apparently are the only two modes with low input lag).

I figured all the talk about input lag was an exaggeration or something I wouldn't notice, but when I switched back and forth between Standard and Game mode, it was very obvious to me. There was a much slower response in Standard mode.

So, the better fix, I've learned, is to use Graphics mode. The only issue there is, you'll need to tweak the settings so they match whatever your preferences are, because the initial settings look kind of flat (at least they did to me). I just plugged in the settings I was using for Game mode into Graphics mode. That gives you a picture just as good, with low input lag.

Yeah your set is higher end than mine, with mine the input lag isn't all that bad even in standard mode at 49ms. I did try game mode recently and I don't notice much in the way of input lag but I did notice they crank the color setting up higher than it is in standard mode.

Yeah, that input lag (49) is better than on my set (109). That probably wouldn't be enough to notice a difference (49 vs. 35) in Game mode.

I used rtings' suggestions to set up my TV. I've got my Color level set to 55.

I find it's better to use calibrations suggested by experts, because otherwise, I keep tinkering with it, never really knowing if I'm making it better or just messing it up. If I use calibrations by the experts, then I just set it and leave it alone.

Now that I have my new PC built I'm back to looking at getting a 4K TV. Right now still between this one or an LG OLED. Originally thinking 55" but I currently have a 50" plasma and doing measurements, even with a thinner bezel, a 55" TV is only like 3 inches wider than my current TV. Think I can make the room for a 65". If that's the case then an OLED will probably be a bit out of my range. Either way going to wait for the new models since it's so close.

Some pricing on the new models, still no release date but hopefully soon.

At launch, the X900F series will support HDR10 for high-dynamic range, but Sony says that the line will also get support for Dolby Vision via a firmware update planned for later this year. While there have been five different screen sizes announced for this line, only three have pricing so far: The 75-inch XBR-75X900F will sell for $4,000, the 65-inch XBR-65X900F will retail for $2,300, and the 55-inch XBR-55X900F will be priced at $1,500.

Edit: Sony's official site says the 49inch model will be $1.099.99 and bestbuy..com has these as soon as Feb 26th, 2018

So I tried a regular BR yesterday for the first time and I noticed that the Mastered in 4K was either greyed out(but on) or it says only available if a 1080 signal is the source or something...since my BR player is either the PS4 or X,I tried a few things but its always greyed out or off...isn'it better anyway to have the TV upscale the movie to 4K,instead of changing the settings on the PS4 for example to output 1080p and turn Mastered in 4K on...?

Resetera says a German magazine did a review that mentioned this.

Personally id go 900F over the Edge Lit 930E.

The 930E got a higher local dimming rating than the 900E which is FALD so I think it all depends on how the tv is set up. I know the 930E has a different kind of backlight system than a typical edge lit so that may be why. If that German site is right I may still go with the 900F, hopefully we get plenty of reviews soon.

Its better than other Edge Lits but it still pales in comparison to the 900F and its true FALD...heck even the 900E beats it in dark scenes and screen uniformity.

I keep reading conflicting things regarding that, everyone has their own bias though I guess. Most of the complaints I read about the 900E that'll likely carry over to the 900F is that even though it's FALD it's got very few zones so you still get all of the blooming issues that you'd get with edge lit sets and it can't match the brightness of the 930e.

The only thing better about the 930E is its peak brightness.
ALL LED LCD can show blooming.
A full array set has significantly less blooming and real zones>fake zones.

That's what I thought but I've read that the 900E shows more blooming than the 930E. The 930E uses a modified edge lit system though so that may be why it's a little different than a typical edge lit.

Whoa, I am thinking about getting a 900E! 75 inch. And here is a 900E thread!!

Well I ordered the 930E over the 900F after talking to the Sony rep at best buy, both are the same price right now and he told me that the 930E was still going to be the overall better performer even though both are great TV's. Brightness is a big deal with HDR and the 930E gets a lot brighter, also it's 10x contrast vs the 900F 6x and the 900E at 5x. I don't think anyone could go wrong with the 900F, 900E or the 930E, they all seem like really good TV's.

I would never buy Edge Lit for serious pq expectations but enjoy.

I am going through Best Buy, but I am going to get the 75 inch 900E. It's not Edge Lit, it's array according to the guy at Best Buy.

Got it today, it's MUCH brighter than the set I'm replacing lol. It's not a standard edge lit set, while it's not full array either it does mimic full array well and it gets much brighter than the 900E or 900F and double the contrast.

Edge Lit to Edge Lit you will be blown away.
900F is a better overall set with better blacks and screen uniformity.
If the above isn't a issue you are good enjoy.

Now you can join my search for Dolby Vision products :)
Got my eye on Apple 4K TV and the upcoming Panasonic UHDBR Player.
