What movies have you seen recently?

I watched Pacific Rim this past Sunday. It was terrible! I loved it!

Wasn’t as good as the first and def lacked that GDT touch, but it was a fun shot your brain off popcorn movie.

Ready Player One - Good

I was torn between average and and good. Went with good for slight nostalgia. The nostalgia feel isn’t as prominent as I thought it would be.

Weird part, with VR/AR coming in, I can see a lot of the future in this movie.

Watching it tomorrow afternoon. I am looking forward to it.

The Ritual 1/2 through pretty good even though I'm in this thread 1/2 through.

Turned out to be meh...

Ready Player One:

Enjoyable movie.

It just had very minimal silly humor so I was glad for that. Movies like this or previously in The Surrogates tend to have a running joke between what the person looks like in reality versus VR and the Surrogates really over did it.

I do think it's sad so much fighting between people or a 'War' over a virtual universe basically came down to the rights for advertising.

Also, I think the riddle for the final key was a bit ridiculous TBH.

Ready player one - 7/10

really loved the first half, yes i was a sucker for cameos and references lol the final third really dragged for me, and i hated that skull chest character, man that guy who voices him does the same thing in everything i see of him... so lame, nearly ruined deadpool too

personal fanboy moment
when he brought out the LANCER!!! then it was destroyed after 5 secs:laugh::sad: just give me one chainsaw kill

ready player one = 8.5 outta 11 for me or 3.5 out of 4

great popcorn flick that's a pure nostalgia SPNKR shot to the heart/feels of your inner 9 year old. my friend and i were 'oooohing' and 'aaaaahhhh' and giggling like lil moe japanese school girls with whatever we caught, whilst many didn't. i was like 'wtf ppl, even my lil niece gets these', she's seven :p

there were a few things that felt rush, it was pretty fast paced overall but it didn't feel like it. one con id have to give is to the theater i saw it in, seemed the base was turned off, some of the sound effects didn't have that umph that kinda lessened some scenes, and some sound effects weren't the ones from certain games, but iron giant's were, i kind got a bit fuzzy and there musta been some onions in my popcorn when he showed up.

i could get more nitpicky with tone, humor, characterization/tropes/stereotypes, plot and other stuff but who cares, you arent going to watch this that.

its the funnest dumb movie this year, so far.

Strangely, I liked that character I-Rok just because he was just gaming for the sake of gaming and had no fvcks to give over the 1980s or at least not at the Gunter level.

Ready Player One - 7/10. Didn't blow me away but was enjoyable all the same.

Tomb Raider - 6/10. Lacked any real sense of character growth.

All the Money in the World - 6/10.

So I watched some of the old Leprechaun movies, had some fun with their cheesyness. Heard that the franchise was returning with a new actor (even though Warwick Davis wants to come back), but then I saw Leprechaun Origins.

I'm gonna start out by saying that this movie actually does justice to the Origins part of the movie. It has a great setting in Ireland (although it's shot in Canada), and the locals are pretty good characters in and of themselves. I loved seeing the illustrations and story behind the creature. It's literally the best part of the movie, although it does sport a couple of solid kills. One where a girl gets a accidental axe to the face from her friends (best kill in the movie) and the actual Leprechaun's death, while tame, is pretty gruesome and fun to watch. I also like how they show off the sets during the credits. Made me stay through it.

Worst part? The Leprechaun. He's a mute Gollum who has predator vision that only sees gold (or shiny stuff). I don't think I ever saw the creature open it's mouth either, which is odd because the big gimmick is that this Leprechaun eats people like crazy. Another odd thing is that you never see the Leprechaun do much of anything besides stumbling around, dragging people off camera, and just plain standing. It's implied that this is a quick, strong, and vicious monster, but if you took away the first person shots (Black Christmas style) and kept all the shots with the actual Leprechaun, you're stuck with a cheap suit. They got a actual pro wrestler named Hornswoggle to play the Leprechaun, and it's a complete waste. You see him do far more athletic things in the six previous films, but he does nothing besides walking and scratching. Hornswoggle has done so many spots in his career, like falling off ladders, suicide diving out of the ring, and could have done some cool stunt work for the movie. Yet you never see it. It was so weird because WWE played him up as the Leprechaun in a semi-big way, but they literally could have gotten anyone to put on the costume. There's nothing of him that I recognize in the movie, which is a shame, because the biggest hallmark of this series is Warwick Davis really having a ball in this role. He puts himself into it, and that made it fun.

Kills were bland for the most part. Mostly off-screen or cheap looking, but the two kills I mentioned earlier were good. I genuinely believe that axe kill was worthy of being in any Leprechaun movie. It's just brutal, and it shows off the monster as the smart trickster that he's supposed to be.

Movie is just a bore. It never really acts as a "so bad it's good" type of film, which is kind of the saving grace of this whole series. It's funny and fun to watch, and this reboot is just a plain drag.

A Quiet Place: 10/10

Intense and thrilling story about a family trying to survive in a harrowing world where they must be absolutely silent. Fantastic acting and incredible design.

If you liked 10 Cloverfield Lane, you'll love A Quiet Place (no not the same universe).

Thor Ragnarok - 9/10

Only Thor movie I've seen. f***ing loved it. I now have a strong urge to watch Doctor Strange.

Honestly, I hope the ALIEN franchise is fcking with us and what is left of Shaw is in an Engineer Hypersleep chamber under that grave and Walter digs her up.

It would be awkward as hell trying to convince her he isn't David though.

Also watched the new Jumanji movie over the weekend with the family. I would rate it a solid 7/10. That movie was a big surprise and how much fun it was. How can they get a video game movie so right that has nothing to do with an actual video game. Come on Hollywood step your video game movie adaptations up.

A Quiet Place - 6/10

For me, a great movie can't have non stupid characters, doing stupid things throughout. Should have called this movie "Bad parents should have thrown rocks".

The franchise seems to be meandering all over the place, but I did mostly enjoy Covenant. My only main disappointment was how Dr. Shaw was handled as a character.

I was impressed by the creature FX like the first 'Back Burster'.

Its biggest problem is it renders Promethus pretty pointless, and then goes on to give a rather meh origin story for the Alien.
