Like I said already, the article is irrelevant to what I was saying. If you want to spend time arguing that the article is accurate (even though the authors themselves disagree), well, okay then, you go for it. The article is irrelevant to what I was talking about.

meh...

I think Microsoft is going to dazzle us. They need to do something. Every year i say they'll steal the show and then it's an hour and a half of Microsoft redefining the term exclusive without anything really being exclusive or noteworthy. I mean BC was awesome, but come on now. Time to take the training wheels off and deliver. Halo 6 will be awesome, there's no denying that. As a fan of Halo i hope they get it right this time. Looking forward to what Fable and Perfect Dark look like. They need new IPs though, obviously.

Sony and Nintendo? More of the same. I think they're tired of winning every E3 so they just mailed it in last year. Well Nintendo has been doing directs and not coming to E3 anyway but Sony was just like yup. We got The Last of Us Part 2, Death Stranding, Days Gone, and all this other stuff coming. See you guys in 2 years. And that works, but for the sake of winning E3 and being E-cool you gotta bring it and i think Microsoft will finally do that in spades this year.

People complain when E3 conferences are filled with too many indie titles. How do you think people are going to react if they "spotlight" (your word not mine) a feature they already revealed at a prior E3? People went nuts last year when Sony ended their show with a sizzle real of God of War, The Last of Us II, Days Gone, Spiderman etc. Can you imagine what would happen if MS spent time on XBox and XBox 360 games?

Sony fans collectively s*** their tits out a few E3s back when it was annoucned they could buy FF7 again, episodically. If people will cream their Levis because they can buy games they already owned and enjoyed, you'd think they'd drench their trenchpants even more if they got those games upscaled to 4K for the low, low price of free. (Admittedly, that wouldn't do diddlycrap for people who sell their games back because they don't want to own them, but that's beside the point).

Added a poll. You can change your vote until just prior to E3.

My vote goes to Microsoft. Already said why, but in a nutshell: They've got a lot to brag about, a lot to prove, and their calendar is clear. Sony will coast, with more details about games we already know are coming, plus some small announcements. Nintendo won't be much of a factor.

Strictly speaking, FF7 is going to be a complete remake (eventually), rather than BC. But I think you've got a good point.

Imagine if Sony was offering BC that involved free 4K remasters of some of the best PS2 and PS3 games. People would love it.

I went third party.

Ubisoft could do it.
If RDR 2 is shown it will be the most talked about and hyped.
Bethesda's new RPG could steel the show if shown.
Cyberpunk could steel the show.
EA could take it with Battlefield and a battle royale mode. Plus a great showing of Anthem could steel it too.

So is there a conspiracy?

You saw the reaction to FF7 Remake being announced a few years ago.

You see the reaction to XBox BC.

Why do you think the reactions are so different?

I voted Sony only because they'll likely have some gameplay of TLOU2 and Ghosts of Tsushima as well as another look at Spider-Man and some 3rd party stuff.

Honestly I wouldn't be shocked if Ubisoft takes it though, they arguably had the best show last year and they almost always have a solid line up.

I don't have much hope for EA, Battlefield going back to WW2 after the last one being in WW1 won't look all that different unless they change the locations a bit, Anthem probably isn't where it needs to be yet it's hard to think of them really going the extra mile. Something that would win me over for them would be a remaster of all of the bad company 1 and 2 maps in one package at 60fps, I know it won't happen but that'd be far more interesting to me than another WW2 shooter.

I'm hoping MS shows a few new IP's that aren't MP focused, a new Halo, Gears and Forza won't do a thing for me personally although I'm sure others here will find those interesting.

I couldn't care less about Nintendo.

BF 5 will look massively different and feel different.

I agree about Ubi. I think they have been the best 3rd party company this gen. Division, while flawed, was good. For Honour is one of my favourite games this gen. Wild lands was a big hit. Far Cry 5 seems to be a big hit. That Mario RTS hybrid game switch looke good and unique. Just good game after good game.

The original announcement was about making the old game playable with little to no upgrades and most people complained about that, that's why they later announced a full remake. I've never played it so I didn't care one way or the other but if you give me the choice of playing a game from 1997 with nothing but a resolution boost for free or a fully upgraded one that I have to pay for I'll take the upgraded one every time. It's awesome that MS can upgrade some older games with BC but it's not really a very big group of games that are getting that 4K treatment, most BC games don't look all that good and that's just what happens when you play older games, especially if you are playing something that was sub 720p originally on a 4K set.

Not sure how massively different a WW2 game will look compared to a WW1 game unless they start finally including some of the pacific areas in it but we'll see, you could be right.

The maps in BF1 were done to represent the nature of the war, so they were all pretty bleak. I didn't see any maps that looked like wake island or guadacanal(spelt wrong?) for example. Then consider the European areas like lush, vibrant fields of Holland. It will look very different for the most part. Sure, you will get some maps that look similar, like the snowey mountains of Italy.

Yup, throw in AC: Origins as well. Ubisoft is definitely on a roll.

I don't follow Ubisoft carefully, but it seems like they've released most of what we knew was coming, and so the stage could be set for some interesting new announcements.

See! They have so much good stuff even awesome games like AC:Origins can get forgotten.

Well they have Division 2 and Beyond Good & Evil to show.

Oooh E3 threads. I will do a Sony one very soon so we can discuss their event as it gets closer. Not sure Microsoft are going to win this year though .

I'm hyped for Super Smash Bros on the Switch.

Cyberpunk being shown as well as more RDR2.

More Spiderman gameplay on PS4 and TLOU2 along with Days Gone.

Lastly whatever Microsoft has in terms of unannounced games.

Everything else is a bonus. I think this E3 will be spectacular.

Phenomimal post. I totally forgot about the reception of FF7 a year or so before Remake was announced.

So you think Sony will do exactly what they did last year? If no new hardware news is coming...
Expect much new shockers from them to keep the momentum going unlike what they did last year.

Nintendo showing Metroid and it being good will win it for most but expect more.

Microsoft is hard to guess as people been thirsty all this time. Will they finally give them some drinks?

Yeah ww2 theme has zzzz written all over it but being a fan i am looking forward to it i just hope it plays better this time.

I don't this ww2 will look much different.

I usually rant about them but....
UBI has stepped it up and the support they give there games is great.
Other publishers need to take note.

So you think Sony will do exactly what they did last year?

No, not exactly. There will be more details, information, and gameplay. But it'll be centered around the same games we already know about. I don't expect any big new game announcements. Some little ones, sure. They already have a full slate of highly anticipated AAA games in the pipeline to show off -- Spider-Man, Last of Us Part 2, Death Stranding, Dreams, Ghosts of Tushima, Days Gone. If they show more of all those, they really don't need to introduce more. Those games will carry them for a while, especially with God of War and Detroit having just released (which I'm sure they'll also mention).

I'm not saying it'll be dull. Sony usually puts on a good show. I just don't think it'll generate a lot of hype and excitement, because it won't have many big surprises.

I voted Sony as well for the reasons you listed, plus other surprises (hopefully)

I hope Microsoft wins, not for fanboy reasons. They need to have an amazing show. Plus it means new games, IP’s.. I have this beast console, and it needs to be pushed to its limits.

Unlike you I’m interested to see how Nintendo follows up after last years success. I hope we get more interesting things and that Nintendo doesn’t fall back into their comfort zone of Mario sports games ( already have a tennis game coming) Mario Party and all that weird character crossover stuff they love to do.

Me too, but the chances of getting a complete from-the-ground-up remake of games like Morrowind or Jade Empire (or even RDR for that matter) is very slim. So I'll take the free 4K upgrades and other performance boosts, thank you very much.

It will be interesting to see (once again) how everyone determines the winner of E3.

I've always based it off the number of exclusive announcements/reveals. You got to assume Microsoft has big things coming from Turn 10 (Horizon 4), The Coalition, 343i, and Rare (Perfect Dark). So they have to be the favorite in that regard.

If you judge E3 based on the health of the console itself, I think Sony is the clear favorite. Death Stranding, Ghosts of Tushima, The Last of Us II, Days Gone, Detroit Become Human, and Dreams all have varying degrees of chance at being GotY type games.

With that being said, the darkorse is Epic games with Fortnite specifically. It's the biggest core game in the history of videogames and has basically become a platform in and of itself. If Epic showcases new Fortnite stuff at E3, I could see that being the "winner" in terms of what everyone is talking about.
