Microsoft At E3 2018

Yeah, I work for MS. Celebrated my 18 year anniversary this year, actually.

... and every day I’ve been working here, it’s been in the games group. I’ve been a part of Microsoft Games longer than Xbox.
Congrats!!

Can you PM me?

Congrats, good sir and or madam :)

Do you get a sword or some fancy trinket/cake for said period?

Thank you!

I got a clock for my five year, a crystal for my ten year, a bigger crystal for my fifteen year, and I’ll get a massive crystal for my 20 year too, if a I make it that far.

At this point, I also have over 24 ship-it awards too... Microsoft has been really good to me. There’s no other tech company I’d rather work for.

...but maybe in my ‘world after Microsoft,’ it would be amazing to work for the Gates Foundation. That’s my next dream career... they do so much good for the world.

Awesomeness, very much. Is there no affiliation between MS and the Gates Foundation?

Hope ya get said dream position. Maybe one day we’ll cross paths in an industry event :)

Wait, what if you eventually take the reins for Xbox?

I was wondering if you still lurked around here, and still worked for Microsoft. The way people shuffle around the tech industry, it's cool to know that some companies still respect tenure, as well as be desirable enough to stick around that long for.

Debunked by Greenberg:

BUT I’m still hearing it’s not dead. However I was told it was re-started from the ground up, so if it’s true, we probably won’t hear about it this year.

Wouldnt Aaron would have killed it already saying this game is dead?

Do you even boss battle? Just because you kill it doesn't mean it won't rise up and make you kill it again. Seven times, usually, for Japanese games.

I found this good video on the MS supported VR headsets. Very informative. Hopefully they Iron out the lingering issues.

Looks like my controllers out of view fears are real. Hope they fix that.

Here is another. Bit more positive, though the other isn't too negative either. I like the ease of use.

These are both several months old.

The guy seems a lot more pumped in the second video; where in the first video, it's a lot of b!itching about stuff. It's good to have different perspectives, though. They did have some strong opinions about the Steam VR for Mixed Reality, but that just recently came out of preview. They could have mentioned that, or maybe I missed it. Either way, things so sound a lot smoother now than a few months back.

The takeaways should be that it's not perfect, but generally higher resolution, much cheaper, and easier to set up than Oculus or Vive. For even higher resolution, the Samsung Odyssey kind of makes the Vive Pro seem WAY over priced too, with the same exact display. It's about double the price, with no controllers included for the Vive Pro. Again, same display.

My thought is that phase 1 of WMR was to to bring the cost way down and offer a comparable experience as the competition, with no lighthouses or external cameras. Phase 2 will likely be adding features that the other players just don't have l like wireless and possibly passthrough cameras, and do it add affordably as possible. They have just recently announced a new Kinect for Azure camera (v4) for both IoT/Azure and Hololens 2. (Relax guys, it's not another game controller, just a part) The FOV is wider, with greater resolution, and this could really make Mixed Reality much more dynamic. Either way, I'm really hoping for a phase 2 for Xbox. Even the cheaper current gen ones would be a huge upgrade from PSVR though, IMO. (I do own one)

As for the tracking of gen 1 headsets, check out Microsoft's own video breakdown of how it works when out of view.

So this is an actual full on arcade cabinet game? Do arcades even exist anymore? I am now so confused as to what this thing actually is.

Yeah, full on arcade cabinet, looks like it’ll be a side by side, to guns mounted to each unit.

Looks like a sit down unit, kinda like the original Jurassic Park (even though it really looks like the Lost World unit, but I guess they’re supposed to look like drop pods), with fixed guns, only no tilting seats as you progress.

Well in Japan they’re still a thing, big actually, dono bout Europe and the UK, but in the states there’s a few far and between, but this will show up first at Dave N Busters first, stateside.

I have a D&B near me and I see crazy arcade machine like tomb raider, world biggest pacman, Pac-man attack.

So it's very alive for those locations.

bold prediction

kingdom hearts 1 & 2 remastered for xbox in time for release of No.3

So taking in all the little bits around the internet from Insiders, I have my expectations tempered for microsoft 1st party this E3 even more than before. Doesn’t sound like Microsoft will have a big 1st party presence this year. Even Halo might not make the show unless Microsoft adds a FMV movie. Sounds like no gameplay is ready to be shown.

Should be something Gears of War, Crackdown to 2019, potentially a kart racer...and a lot of road map talk. Microsoft seems to have most 1st party resources pointed at next gen and will be banking on enhanced 3rd party games, extra Japanese support and new ways to access your games as things to bide everyone’s attention until 2020.

Spencer saying this is Microsoft’s biggest show seems to have more to do with Cloud, streaming and Game Pass.

I believe the state of Microsoft’s 1st party was much more dire than they let on. They apparently had small teams working on SOD2 and SOT until the end of development. (I’d say these rumors appear to be true based on the state those games released which makes me think other rumors were true). 1st party had next to no funding past few years. Unless Microsoft buys a studio, it’s going to be awhile on the exclusives folks.

I don’t think they are “much more dire then they let on”. SOD2 team was/is a small indie studio, like the team that made Ori. SOT though, I haven’t looked at the credits for that game but I’m pretty sure it’s bigger than the SOD team, and wasn’t there word a whiles ago that the team was split up into two as they were working on two projects, SOT being one of them.

And for what few 1st parties they have they seem to be pumping money into older games like MCC and I’m sure they’re working on continuing whatever franchises they’re working on.

I highly doubt the focus of their conference and display will be focusing more on cloud/streaming and GamePass, side notes perhaps with a typical video montage of new games and features, maybe slip in a new controller ;)

Let’s just wait and see and then we can bicker, whimper, hug and cry. Do wonder what PlayGround is really up to.

That would be a huge mistake.

It also makes no sense that they got little funding, the Xbox division is a very profitable division. All they will have done with poor funding is lost marketshare, mindshare, and all the positives they built in the first 5 years of the Xbox 360.

To me, it seems like we just keep repeating the same positions we expressed a couple weeks ago. I don't feel like repeating my opinion again.

Good news about the MCC. I expect a release date at E3.
