The man who fronted Sony’s Magic Lab research and development division, Dr Richard Marks has left Sony to join forces with Google, even as rumours swirl about Google’s interest in videogames.

Dr Richard Marks was the head of the Sony R&D department that created some of Sony’s most well-known hardware accessories, including the EyeToy, PlayStation Move, and course, the PlayStation VR.

Marks will be joining a team which includes another ex-Sony veteran, Phil Harrison, who went on Twitter to express his delight at the development: “Delighted that Richard Marks is joining Google. Exciting addition to the Advanced Technology and Products (ATAP) team.”
Harrison is the co-founder of PlayStation and has previously stated his confidence in immersive technology, though believes the hardware still needs to be improved: “There will be a core audience who continues to be “blown away” by VR as it is, but for it really to take hold, the hardware needs improving.”
There are multiple rumours about what google is working on with regards to videogame technology. The most credible reports concentrate on hardware called ‘Yeti’, which is said to offer videogame streaming in a similar fashion to the PlayStation Now service.
Several analysts have pointed to this as a big loss for Sony, as Marks has worked with PlayStation since 1999, and who has a solid track record for creating innovative products. His reasons for leaving have not been confirmed, but many simply believe he was simple search for a new challenge after so long with Sony.

“ATAP is at the intersection of science and application where our goal is to solve significant problems and close the gap between what if and what is,” a Google spokesperson told GamesBeat. “We’re super excited about Richard joining the senior team and look forward to his contributions.”

What a month. Looks better than the regular sony exclusives to me.

Love this game. I've been playing it everyday this week. If you have any interest in racers this is a must. It's super intense feeling like you're inside these cars. I used to play Rallysport on Xbox and it never made me "feel" it, even though I loved the game, now I get to feel like I'm actually driving these cars. Holy s***.

PSVR is very healthy, and this is really good for VR, as a whole.

On that note, I've been playing Superhot a lot again, lately. How is the tracking so darn good in this game? It seems to be somehow better than anything else I've played on PSVR. Anyway, this game needs a sequel right away! Imagine something that looks like Blood and Truth, but plays like Superhot! The play mechanic is just so darn tight! I cannot believe that the game wasn't developed for VR first! Loving rediscovering this game!

Sequel is in the works and it looks like Japan with swords, it's still had guns though.

So with tracking have you tried mounting the camera high? Like 7-8ft.

It's currently about 3ft high. I have a projector screen above that, so it's sandwiched between the top of the center channel speaker and the bottom of the black velvet screen frame. I suppose I could run it behind the screen, up to the top of the upper frame, which is probably like 8ft high. I honestly didn't think it would work up there.

Oh okay, yeah I noticed a big jump in tracking accuracy when I raised it higher. I saw a post on reddit with a ton of people recommending it so I gave it a shot.

Yeah, well it actually couldn't have worked out more perfectly. The cord is the exact length required without an extension. It's actually resting about 7.5 feet high off the ground, and the wire so conveniently hides right behind my screen. You barely notice it up there, and it won't get bumped by my rowdy feline friends.

Now to see how it performs...

Ok, it seems a little better, but honestly my biggest problem has been with the Rick and Morty game. The problem with that it's that there's a lot of stuff to pick up on the ground, which obviously raising the camera and pointing it down does not help with that particular issue. There is a hover feature, but it only covers so much. I think it's just this game, anyway. Superhot controls just as good, maybe better.

Nice! I notice some games you don't get as much of a benefit but overall its much better for me. I stand back away from the camera a bit more when I have it higher also. Another trick I read is to power up the headset while its not moving and let it sit for about 30seconds before moving it but keep it in the camera's view the whole time.

Yeah, I also like the fact that I can stand back a couple of feet from where I was before. I worry less about knocking into the AV stuff now. The sweet spot is definitely more of the middle of my living room now, which is an upgrade. I need to try Skyrim again, and see how that handles now.

It's worth noting that both Persistence and Transference have free demos out. Transference is pretty unnerving. Persistence seems pretty good so far, too. Not exactly original, but solid.

I heard Transference is really good. I can tell you the Persistence full game is better than the demo.

PSVR is starting to remind me of the Dreamcast with all these cool little games, hope it doesn't go away like that console did.

It seems like I have missed a hell of a lot, I am a day one purchaser has anything changed in regards to the actual hardware? the wires drive me crazy, hence the reason it gets limited play.

I am all in for Creed.

What wires drive you crazy, the 4k bypass? I don't think there has been any hardware changes other than V2 which fixes the 4k thing.

Impressions for Firewall are really good across the board. I've read three reviews so far, its averaging high 8s. The complaints are very manageable. It needs longer rounds and the host migration after they exit needs ironing out.

Other than that this is the most visceral game you can play at home. Feels somewhere in between playing airsoft and a videogame. I see alot of comments like that.
