There is nothing to dig because nobody except the devs know what the f*** the game is about. Please explain to me what you think the game is. I am all ears.
Exactly.

You got 3 minutes of game footage of the main character hauling metal crates up mountains, shadowy creatures when a flashlight is shone on them, and every once in a while a female character pops up like an imaginary dream.

It was first revealed at E3 2016. Two years later we get vague gameplay videos.

I think Death Stranding looked really interesting. Second best of the show for me. It's a beautiful game with a wholly original premise/setting. Looking forward to it.

Never mind Union. Go check out the Resetera pages when Death Stranding was shown and almost everyone was making fun of it. Everything from Fedex man of the future to walking simulator confirmed.

That was the whole point of the trailer, lol. Surely society hasn't devolved enough to where adults are oblivious to metaphore right? That was an unbelievable trailer. Everything it did it nailed, which can not be said of the others.

Kojima is a master when it comes to atmosphere and design.

You weren't supposed to know what the game was about after that trailer. This should be fairly obvious to you.

Yes Kojima is a master. I am huge Kojima fanboy but I am not going to fall for this BS anymore and am certainly not going to swoon over a "gameplay" demo where the gameplay was basically a dude walking around.

IGN just took some pretty good guesses. They said that before Kojima left Konami that the design of Metal Gear Survive was the game that he pitched. And if you take a look at this, maybe there's some similarities? Resource gathering, survival elements and exploration mixed with this really f***ed up surrealist inter dimensional s***. I'd imagine there is probably some base building element to it... maybe. Probably crafting as well.

Hopefully they go over combat next time because they did show Reedus pulling out a gun.

This is the game that has me the most hyped though from this conference, sorry guys, you can argue over the others:

Don't swoon over the gameplay because the trailer wasn't meant for that. Swoon over the world Kojima is building. Swoon over the fact that it's not yet another standard super hero game/story. Swoon over the fact that it's near impossible to see anything big budget tread uncharted territory and this, by the looks of it, most certainly is.

God damn the beauty is obvious!

I'm not sure that was a gun. Kojima said in interviews that games are rife with sticks (guns) and he wants to make a game with ropes (???) Instead.

As a show I give it a C+.

If the goal was to show that Sony makes AAAA single player games that no other publisher touches, then they get an A. Spider-Man, Ghosts and Last of Us 2 make even the better AAA single player games by other publishers look a half generation behind. LOU2 attention to detail makes the new Tomb Raider look outdated. Sony drove their point home well.

Why C+. Arguably game of the show was the same 2 years running. (Spider-Man still looks incredible and will probably sell an ish ton of consoles but it loses some punch on its second round). The pacing and actual fun factor were lacking. I dislike that Sony now cuts out all games that aren’t AAA from their show. The better Indies are still important. Most of all, Death Stranding was the game I was most interested in seeing but is now currently my biggest disappointment of E3. Probably just too early but there seems to be no game to the game. Overall there is a serious, stuffy, dark tone to Sony’s show. Games as art is great...but my God they are still games! Look like you’re having fun. Show some more light hearted stuff. They could replace Layden’s awkward commentary with some light hearted Indies.

Side feeling....Last of Us is one of my favorite games ever but I didn’t love the demo. Not due to gameplay. ND continues to raise the bar when it comes to details but so far I’m not feeling Ellie being so dark. Her and Joel were great compliments before but that changes now that she enjoys ripping heads off.

Eh. I was digging the weirdness before today. I won’t swoon over anything. Kojima makes crazy stuff that is hit and miss and people either love or hate but he nails gameplay. Still no gameplay.

Yeah, the redemption story with the father-daughter dynamic is what appealed to me in TLOU. I love how they capture the post-apocalyptic vibe, and the production values are stellar, but I really hope Joel plays a large part as well.

I don't understand your take at all.

You enjoyed the first two trailers, which were weird AF but the third trailer, which was weird AF turned you off?

I'm reading the thread on resetera and it seems like everyone poo pooing the trailer thinks that's representative of what the game will be like. Pretty dumb.

Maybe it's a rope-gun or for shooting ropehooks into the ground/rock?

Naughty Dog are on a whole other level from other studios, even from their fellow Sony studios.
Kojima is from another planet. Lol. What a mind.

I’m a fan of weird. That’s why it was my most anticipated of this show. It just didn’t land this time. There’s a fine line between being weird and mysterious...and weirdness with no road map or direction.

I’m not sold Kojima knows what type of game he wants to make yet.

This is so strange to me.

I watch that video and I see Kojima 10 steps ahead of everyone else. I see someone who's unbelievably adept at getting whatever is in his head on to his canvas. He's so clearly a master at this and yet people say...

"...with no roadmap or direction".

Like, the trailer wasn't supposed to give us the roadmap. It wasn't supposed to show us much more than atmosphere and a few more nuggets of information. It's crazy to see people not view what was right in front of them. Crazy!

I gave the show an A. I like that they followed through on the “doing something different” promise that MS also said but didn’t do.

Spider-Man looks great. Not a huge fan of the super hero genre. But I want to play it.
Naughty Dog....I mean f***. What can you say there? The best in the business. Period.
Death Stranding looks like a bad dream, and I love it.
RE 2 remake looks cool. Nice surprise.
The Sucker Punch game is the one that didn’t grab me. Beautiful art. But idk, something looks off. I thought Nioh looked better.

I figured Remedy would show at this event. I’m not sure why MS didn’t jump on that.

Good show. I was entertained.

I agree on your Ghosts of Sushima take.

Going in I was pretty pumped for it but the animations looked pretty bad and the short gameplay section looked like something we've all done in countless games at this point.

I still love the setting and the art direction was nice. Just didn't wow me like I thought it might.

Just got past TLOU, and... Didn't they get in trouble for ripping off Ellen Page's likeness? And they decided to do the exact same thing with Shailene Woodley's face and facial cues/tics for the second game (right down to the thin lipped side favouring grim smirk).

Looks great though.

Ghost looked like they spent waaay too much time working on all those post process effects and almost none on the actual character movement/animation. Dude looked like rigor mortis was about to set in.

Environment looks like eye candy, I'll give them that but the rest did nothing for me. Gameplay looked especially lame when you consider they announced a sequel to Nioh in same conference and you know they're going to put in work and do better than the first game, which was already really advanced.

The animation was uneven but I'm sure that'll be improved in time, that game is still probably a year and a half from release, the models and environments looked great though.

One thing I noticed yesterday and today, most of the japanese 3rd party studios seem to be pretty far behind when it comes to crafting detailed realistic models, when they go for realistic they seem to miss the mark compared to what western studios are doing. Ghost is made by an American dev and the models look better than anything made by a Japanese company that I've seen so far this E3.

Spiderman spidey sense could easily be rendered unnecessary if he used common sense, and just looked at the people wanting to murder him.

B- from me. Ghost is better than I thought. Spiderman worse than i thought. Death Stranding as i thought. I need to see more Death Stranding though. Nioh 2 was a good surprise.

ok, I am glad someone else said something about spiderman because it looked nothing like the last trailer. I don't think it's going to be a bad game but again it's a game that has already done this.

That trailer was a huge turn off for me. I was pretty excited for the game until seeing that. I thought that Ghost of Tsushima footage was amazing.

just watched the presser.... too lazy and tired to say entirely how i felt about it, death stranding OMG i need more. that sucker punch game though, as spectacular a colour palette it has i had issues with shadows and animations. spiderman, im on the fence, looks amazing but its something i wont get day one, if at all and hes my boi. as for the last of us, well i hope it wasnt prerendered or smoke and mirrors like the uncharted 4 trailer, wish they said what it was running on, will buy day one ce just take my money..... and how the fawk do you not see someones backpack through those two to three feet high grass just a few feet away lol

UC4 never had a smoke and mirrors gameplay trailer, that "in engine" trailer that just showed Nathan wasn't a gameplay demo. I'm sure this had some enemies scripted to be in certain places though, that's pretty common for an E3 demo.

Death Stranding only needed to reduce the "walking simulator" footage down to like maybe 30 seconds and the trailer would have been received much better. 3 minutes of walking, no matter how good it looks visually, is going to get ridiculed by the internet.

Aside from all the walking I thought it was an interesting trailer, but I get the sense this game could be anywhere from 2 to 4 years away :(

Death Stranding was the only thing that really impressed me but I don't know why, maybe that's it different. Many of the other games just remind me of stuff I've seen several times over but in 4k. That spiderman footage did the least for me out of everything I've seen to the point I'm considering not buying it now.
