Hi everyone, Happy New Year! Since access to PlayStation Network was impacted during the holidays, we wanted to show our appreciation for your patience by offering all PlayStation Plus members that had an active membership or free trial on December 25th a membership extension of five days. The extension will be automatically applied, so no action is necessary to receive the extension. We will post additional information here on the blog when the extension becomes available. If your membership or trial ends before the extension is available, you will receive five days of Plus to enjoy once the extension becomes available (we will notify you when).

In addition, sometime this month we will announce that for a limited time, we will be offering a 10 percent discount code good for a one-time discount off a total cart purchase in the PlayStation Store as a thank you to ALL PSN members.

The discount can be used towards great content available on PS Store including blockbuster new releases, award winning indie games, game add-ons and season passes, and an enormous selection of TV and Movies.

In case you missed it, click here to read about the great games included in the January 2015 PlayStation Plus Instant Game Collection lineup.

Thanks again to all our loyal PlayStation fans and welcome to our newest console owners. Wishing you all a very Happy Holiday.

fantastic, thanks Sony........... :smash:

How long was the PSN network down for?

About 5 days maybe? Not sure. To be honest it's not ps+ members that should be getting much, it's the new people who couldn't use their new console for Christmas.

I haven't had a reason to log into psn lately, but if its still down that's crazy.

Only thing I tried during this time was the NHL GameCenter app which worked fine. I'll take the additional 5 days though no problem. Maybe I can find a game to buy with that code as well.

3-4 days depending where you are. It was down dec.24 for me and came back up the 27th.

Nice gesture but maybe offer a free game? I'll take the 10% off though and 5 days extension. Wasn't XBL down for 1-2 days too? Did they give anything back to the community ?

I know it was down a couple days for me, as I wanted to play Guilty Gear. I'll take the five days; I wasn't expecting anything.

Not sure what xbl are offering if anything. They're service is so much better it isn't even comparable to psn

Not really. GWG is so much worse than PS+ but MS did get their service back up quicker so that's a positive.

I'm not talking about the value, I'm talking about the service. Xbl is better.
And as for value, PS+ is only better value if you own multiple Sony devices, otherwise its pretty much ho hum. I've had it for a year nearly and it certainly hasn't been everything its made out to be by some of our members. Anyway, that's a different topic for a different thread. :-)

Agreed with all of this.

Sony is about as generous as they are good at security.

Both services suck outside of whatever games you get.

You have to admire how understanding and humble Sony is. After the start of last gen they've really improved their image in the eye of the public.

I went to log on to create an account and couldn't get on...guess I don't count because I couldn't activate my PS+ account...okay then thanks for nothing..

It has been smooth for me throughout the day. Unless it just so happened to go offline by coincidence when I wasn't playing, I dunno!
