Maybe...? Wouldn't make sense considering how well PS continues to sell, but I wouldn't be surprised if they pull Microsoft at E3.

If that happened, the next xbox would be much more powerful, it might be a year or two years more advanced like scorpio over pro or more.

On the flip side Scorpio doesn't much time as the most powerful console. Doesn't really make much sense for Sony to start a hardware arms race with MS though.

Yeah even 2019 seems unlikely to me.

Having purchased the Pro, if the PS5 launches in a year I'd be a little pissed. If true it needs to take a similar approach to MS regarding BC and scalability.

I still think 2019 is probably better bet. That's 6 years for the PS4 line and 3 for the Pro. A 6 year cycle with a mid cycle Pro version of a console seems pretty good to me.

Unless they launch new consoles in the same year again that's just how it's going to work from now on. The next playstation will be more powerful than scorpio than the next xbox will be stronger, then the next playstation will be etc.

I don't think this story is true, it wouldn't upset me but it just seems a bit far fetched, the guy was saying it would be a more than 10 TF GPU, seems like that's a bit much for a console in 2018, you'd also need a lot more memory to really take advantage etc. Something like that would likely be really expensive in 2018 let alone the cooling/power consumption issues. I could be wrong, but I just don't see it happening. The PS4 continues to be the best selling console no matter what MS does, MS may win a couple of the slower months here and there in NA but overall globally Sony is still the best selling machine month to month even though they already have twice as many consoles in homes as MS.

Why when the PS4 is doing so well? Unless they knocked up a quick switch rip off?

If that were true, then why was the Xbox One 40% weaker than the ps4 despite being released after it?

Bring it! Thinking if it is true it will be 100% backwards compatible.

Being that the guy is speculating that it'll have a 10+ teraflop GPU I doubt it'll be anything like the switch :) I know this will sound crazy to a lot of people but I think this time next year the switch will have slow sales and the hype will be all but gone.

The xbox one wasn't released a year before ps4. Massive difference.

If ps5 hits next year, there's no way we'll see a next gen xbox that same year, like I said it'll be at least a year later, if not more.

You missed the point tho. The Xbox One was really weak compared to the ps4 despite being released at the same time. The ps3 was weaker than the Xbox 360 despite being released a year later. A year difference doesn't hold much significance, especially now that Moore's Law has finally been broken.

Would be really stupid, imo. They just released the Pro. Doesn't make sense. These are not cell phones, and Sony would undermine their best seller and I can't imagine how annoying it would be to a Pro owner.

Sounds like (really poor) speculation, or Sony leaking some BS to shake up some mind share from Scorpio...

It wouldn't annoy me as a Pro owner, hell it could even be something that attracts people who held off on the pro. At the same time I don't believe this is going to happen. I don't know how MS 1 year after the Pro launching is coming with a 1.8TF stronger GPU and the following year Sony would release something that's over 4TF stronger than Scorpio, that just seems like a huge leap in one year. That's not even counting having to get through issues like pricing and then the technical hurdles like heat and power consumption.

This is just pure speculation. More likely to be 2019, and then MS will follow-up with Scorpio 2 in 2020.

The Tick-Tock mentality from Intel and AMD may be proven, but this is the first gen of consoles to have the "Tock".

Consumers will be the ones that decide if this will be the norm from now on.

Tick: New 'Generation' console.
A few years later.
Tock: The Console Plus Version.

But the baking time between each of these periods hasn't been fine tuned, or nuanced.

The Pro to me, didnt make sense, entirely. However, taking PSVR into consideration, it seems fleshed out, if a tad soon.

Launching the successor to the Pro console two years later? Eh. I guess its the same situation again. People will find their own value in it. If you're a hardcore gamer, huzzah.

I'm far too conscious of where money goes to support this kinda thang. And I'm more than happy to have amazing experiences playing games without all the effects turned on.

Its probably the same argument gamers have been having on PC for decades.

If they do launch PS5 in 2018, Great! I dont own either a PS4 or a Pro. If I had just purchased a Pro? I might be questioning the value of what I was sold. Not only that, I'd be expecting a hefty price reduction in the Pro and maybe phasing out the PS4, if we were to see the PS5 announcement in a few weeks.

Nah, I bet it's 2020. PS4 is still selling like hotcakes. Maybe late 2019, which would put updates every three years. I still think three years is too close. Four is the sweet spot, imo. It gives each iteration room to breathe while allowing tech to advance enough.

A lot will ride on the reception of Pro/Scorpio.

de3d1 what's wrong? Can't explain why it's shifty? Troll elsewhere.

You don't have the respect of the community here to deem what is trolling or not, sorry. It's painfully obvious why its shifty, you just wanna bait.

No, the Xbox One technically released first, but they both released at the same time. You just don't want to attack the argument. So you nitpick and twist it into a weird technicality. Just like when you all claimed I was saying there is a literally impenetrable brick wall floating in the sky. This forum doesn't attack the arguments. Plainview set the precedent there.
