WOW, an open demo. It been ages since a console game has it, I can support it.

This game is looking so damn good to me. Its easy see the Mass Effect: Andromeda influence with the combo system and even some of the base heavy sound effects sound similar. ME: Andromeda is by no means perfect but one of its strengths is its combat and I’m now wondering if the “A” team over at Bioware did indeed work on the combat system to which they knew would be transferred over to Anthem. Ohh well, doesn’t matter really because Anthem looks like a lot of fun.

I can’t decide which class of Javelin I’ll be mainlining. In Destiny1/2 I played all three classes but at heart I was a Warlock space wizard. For this game I keep changing my mind after seeing a new video featuring a specific class. There’s still loads of time so I’m not worried about it plus the demo should make the decision easier. I’m so glad they’re not calling it a “Beta”.

Open demo is a great thing for people like me, because as of now I’m definitely passing. I doubt it can change my mind but I’m open to it.

Buy on Xbox, and you have a 2 hour demo. If it sucks, refund!

EA Access people have a 10 hour demo too, so you'll have lots of impressions. I'm definitely in the "I'll try it" crowd. It looks like fun, but I could see it being really shallow. If anything, I doubt I'll buy at launch. I'll give the game a year or so and see where it is. 10 hours is actually not always enough for a game like this. We may hit a wall 20-30 hours in with nothing to do.

I hope it is good. I really want to like it. Anthem and Crackdown 3 for me next month makes for a great month if it’s a good game.

I think I’ve figured out one of the biggest reasons for my excitement for this game. It’s the flying. It looks so damn fun and hopefully is as much fun while playing. I will be hella disappointed if the flying mechanic is not implemented into the game outside just getting from point A to B. There better be some flying requirement for some of the end game content or I’m really going to lose it, haha.

I keep seeing a lot of negative comments attached to stories for this game. There seem to be a lot of people who say that they would have jumped on this game if it was a single player RPG but are not interested in a Destiny like experience. Then there is the camp saying they don’t want to give their money to EA so they are passing on this game and some other comments say “no PVP, no buy”.

I really hope this game is good and that gamers give it a fair shake before they dismiss it. I don’t think its too late to turn perception around for this game but EA/Bioware need to turn on their marketing muscle machine to try and change the narrative surrounding this game before its too late.

It is hard to burn through the blind EA hate. BF V has the same thing. There's just people who hate EA and don't bother ever evaluating their games individually.

What's funny is the no PVP makes me want to buy it more. PVP in games like the Division are just a mess for those of us who have actual lives. I'd just get crushed in the Division dark zone for no reason other than high level players wanted to ruin my day. I get that some want it, but honestly a game not centered around it sounds good to me. I can progress more at my own pace and not feel like I'm in a rat race.

This guy has played a bunch and is a Destiny streamer so he has that perspective which was interesting. This guy is a little click-baity but this video was pretty good.

Hey Kerosene31, thanks for the video I'll check it out after work where I can be nice and comfy at home. I've seen a few videos from some youtubers who were flown out for a private demo. But from the few vids I’ve seen about Anthem from those who attended the sponsored event their videos didn’t give much substance but they did provide some nice gameplay which I hadn’t seen before. And, my opinion has not changed that it’s the flying that’s really doing it for me.

The overall of the game does look fun and I love that the devs have said “all major content that requires teamwork will have matchmaking”. That was a major issue I had with Destiny Raids forcing me to coordinate with players using a third-party site which was so frustrating and a major reason why I left the Guardians I worked so hard on behind. It was as if Bungie had no faith in the intelligence of gamers to figure things out or for the community to come together through matchmaking to help those who were struggling. The message to me of no matchmaking was "only the most hardcore should coordinate and take part in the most rewarding content". To pay for a game and its expansions only to be locked out of the most rewarding content is a real kick in the sack.

I despise ea for their attempt at greed with battlefront 2 and what they're doing with fifa is insane, they should def get called out for it and the punishment they're getting is fair imo.
But, they do get things right too, ea access is phenomenal value and anthem really does look great, hard to see how anyone who likes gaming could dislike what they have shown.
Could it be a boring grindfest, sure, but from what they've shown it looks amazing imo.

Yeah, games like this end up being a balance. They need to be challenging and deep for the people who do put in a ton of hours, but they need to be fun and enjoyable for those of us who play a lot, but still play other games and aren't going to "no-life" it.

I'll have my EA Access 10 hours at least. I'm sort of leaning towards a buy, because I can probably get $60 worth of fun out of it even if there is high end stuff I never get to.

Hey Kerosene31, good video from that Kackis fellow. He gave a nice breakdown and mentioned something I have not heard yet. The fact that you can't immediately equip a piece of found loot during a mission is a new piece of info for me. One of the games I'm playing now is Warhammer Inquisitor: Martyr which is a ARPG like Diablo 3. That game does the same thing where you can only equip the loot you find after mission completion. So I'm used to that sort of thing now but I can see that frustrating players who want to know what they got when they get it.

Thanks you just provided me with a new channel for gaming news/updates.

Getting more and more interested in this game. Will probably wait for initial reviews, but I'm probably going to get this.

EA is trash but I'll give the games a try. It's all about supporting the devs who more often than not get screwed.

Yeah that was interesting. In a way I can see how that makes people stay in an activity but like you said it gets frustrating.

The big thing that alarmed me in that video is how the game is more centered around abilities than gunplay. I don't want this game to be a Destiny clone, and the way the classes are different looks good, but ability spam tends to get old in a hurry.

I worry that it will be very cookie cutter. Do your "root/freeze" attack, then area attack, etc. Hopefully it is deeper than that.

If abilities or Supers recharged super fast in Destiny I think that would take away form their awesome feeling. But if there is a nice balance concerning recharge time I think it could work. But the mention of gunplay not feeling all the great is a little worrying, he did say it feels fun. In the first Division which is another third person game the shooting was very satisfying and fun. Obviously not every developer can nail that feeling like Bungie has but I think Bioware has a good shot at making the shooting feel good.

I thought I was all set to main a Storm Javelin. But after seeing the video highlighting the ranger I'm reconsidering and thinking of that being my first main class. Luckily we are not locked into any one type so I'll try them all and see what sticks.

It like Diablo. It is about Abilities with weapons being complimentary. Some legendary or masterwork weapons will very useful. It is not shooter\looter like destiny and division those games are about the weapons with abilities being complimentary.

Will probably skip the demo as I will be gone most of the weekend. Might try the open one but at that point the game will be a couple weeks away anyways.
