Anthem

Nice to hear that there is no pvp. That means we don't have to worry about pve weapon balancing being match to pvp. Hey can play with their power fantasy a lot more. Also cool to hear that abilities are items. They can make some crazy off the wall stuff and change things up

You can have both and have no problems with Pve and PvP balancing. You just separate them

Not sure what to think yet. What I've seen so far seems really boring. What is the point of the game? Is there loot at all? Just drop in kill stuff, and then bug out? Meh at this point. Where my Jade Empire 2 at you f***s.

Heading into Anthem at EA play right now

Ok, they showed us 4 player co-op for about 20 minutes.
It’s fantastic graphically, and it looks and moves (with the exception of the short flying parts and underwater stuff) a LOT like Gears, plus some Halo and ReCore mixed in. The boss fight they showed looked like it could have been in any Gears game.

I think it’s going to do very well. Everyone seemed to love it. I’ll try to answer any questions if anyone has any.

I liked it a lot. The slowness seemed to be more because they were playing a Colossus. The elemental combos seem pretty cool and I love how vertical it all is.

Graphically it looks very nice, kind of hard to believe it's the same developer who put out that trash Mass Effect Andromeda. Also I hate to be like this but it seemed kind of forced having so many female players in the demo, I doubt you'll ever play with that many females in a game, I've seen some complain that there were no white people in it but I really don't care about that, when I create a character they are almost always a different ethnicity than I am. Also I've never heard Kardashain inflections with that narrators accent before, it was strange how it would just creep in at certain points lol.

Same. Ethnicity only plays if it makes sense in a certain context. Considering it's not the same planet, and there are more non-"white" people on our own planet, it makes sense. Not like in far Cry 5 where you are in Montana(?) And every other hunter redneck is a black woman, lol.

The female thing is just forced nowadays and is incongruent with current and historical gender proclivities, thus feeling weird when so overrepresented in the role of a warrior.

I don't know how I feel about this game. I feel like its a Bioware game in name only but I could be in for a pleasant surprise. I'm going to try it on on Origin Access Premier when it come out.

Yeah, I'm all for diversity and I want everyone to feel they are represented in some way in whatever form of entertainment they enjoy. That being said when it's done in a way that seems obvious or preachy it just comes off as artificial and forced.

Yeah, i just get a Destiny with mechs feel or something. Didn't really care for Destiny but that was more due to wanting to play other games instead of putting a bunch of hours into one game. My MMO style gaming days are behind me.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned (maybe because it's actually really obvious?) is how similar the gameplay looks to andromeda.

I saw many reused animations. The combat is 100% andromeda with longer lasting jump jets, down to combo priming and detonations. Not that that's a bad thing. I'm firmly set in thinking andromedas combat was nearly faultless.

Then again maybe nobody knows this because no one but me played andromeda. (100%'ed it but I'm not, in fact, a masochist)

I played Andromeda a bit but just couldn't get into it, the lack of decent production values didn't help though and it wasn't just the awful faces, the severe pop in going on in nearly empty environments was just too much and the game really did just look like something that needed at least another year in development before it'd be ready for primetime.

I have a feeling this game will bomb hard.

Can anyone in a few short sentences tell me what about this game I should be excited about?

I am a big supporter of diversity, I demand games to have diversity of choices, diversity of quests, diversity of enemy type & weapon type.

I thought the exact same thing. Lots of reused animations

I don't think it will bomb as these type of games seem to have a kind of following. Especially if they run it like Destiny or the Division using the GaaS model. Will it meet EA expectations? That's anyone's guess.

I'm not trying to be debbie downer for this game, cause it does look really nice but I wonder is this the best use of the Bioware studio/talent. Bioware, a studio almost exclusively known for its singleplayer RPG games with strong narrative threads is making a social loot shooter where gameplay not story is the main draw. I get EA wanting to get more out of their studios and Bioware themselves could want to try something new but it seems like they are getting away from what made them what they are. Almost seems like self sabotage by EA, Bioware or both. But I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Guerrilla Games was almost completely defined by their work on 1st person shooters, then when given the chance to make something else they nail it with Horizon Zero Dawn.

Very reasonable concerns I think. I hope it delivers because it looks like it could be great fun but as you said, with Bioware out of their comfort zone, who knows what the end product will be like.

The graphics, and the graphics alone.

If this game had AA, mid tier presentation no one would give a **** about it. It's like EA thought Destiny was the future of gaming, invested 4 years into a Destiny clone, only to watch the industry move on from that type of game. This definitely isn't the next big franchise.
