Anthem

These kinds of games are rarely good at launch. After launch they still get tons of content added and only then do some of them become good.

The graphics, and the graphics alone.

If this game had AA, mid tier presentation no one would give a **** about it. It's like EA thought Destiny was the future of gaming, invested 4 years into a Destiny clone, only to watch the industry move on from that type of game. This definitely isn't the next big franchise.
There are a few g as mes like that, tbh. To be fair, Graphics do play a significant role in a games enjoyment, imo.

That trailer just makes the game look like another "get ordered around while all the real characters have their drama" thing
You don't have to take everything from the division and destiny, bioware.

Gonna have to show an example of how "role playing" this RPG is, eventually. Bored of these silent/passive protagonists.

I have a feeling this game will bomb hard.

Can anyone in a few short sentences tell me what about this game I should be excited about?

Admittedly my response is weirdly late but I’ve only recently started looking back into this game.

There’s a lot of negativity regarding this game but I feel if we saw the exact same game from a different publisher, people would be super hyped about Anthem.

Game not only has super graphics but from all hands on impressions I read, game feels really good. People have said you feel like Iron Man. This genre is super repetitive so what will create lasting appeal is that moment to moment gameplay, world building and visuals. Nobody is going to want to explore DLC if the worlds look boring.

This is Bioware’s A team. They’ve never bombed when it comes to characters and worlds. Comes down to content and basic gameplay loop. Hands on impressions are giving a thumbs up on gameplay. Now it’s just a question of content.

At this point I’m very positive on the game. It’s coming out at a good time because EA is still reeling from poor PR so they are going to feel pressure to deliver content and value out the box. If it bombs, it’s only due to PR and SJW backlash (which I find rediculous btw).

Ways to Play Anthem Before It Launches on February 22, 2019

Discover all the ways you can play Anthem early and choose the option that’s right for you.

As we’re clearing our February social calendars for maximum uninterrupted Anthem™ play time, we wanted to make clear exactly how to take advantage of the different opportunities to play before launch.

There are three different ways that you can play Anthem before it launches on February 22, 2019: the VIP demo, Early Access with Origin Access Premier, and the Play First Trial on EA Access and Origin Access Basic.

VIP Demo

The VIP demo kicks off on February 1, 2019 and is open to players who’ve pre-ordered Anthem* as well as current EA Access and Origin Access subscribers**. Both Standard and Legion of Dawn pre-orders receive access to the demo. EA Access and Origin Access members need to have an active subscription at the time of the demo (February 1, 2019) to get access.

Early Access†

Early access begins on February 15, 2019 for Origin Access Premier members. This lets you play the full game a week before launch on PC. Members will have early unlimited access to EA’s full games on PC to play as much as they want five days before launch, as long as they are subscribed to Origin Access Premier. Origin Access Premier members also receive access to 140+ games in The Vault, our library of games that just keeps growing all the time.

Play First Trial

EA Access (for Xbox One) and Origin Access Basic (for PC) members will get to play 10 hours of Anthem as part of the Play First Trial starting on February 15, 2019**. Progress made in the game during the free trial will carry over to the full game if purchased with your 10% member discount or if you become Origin Access Premier member.

Here are also a couple of questions we’ve seen crop up that we’d like to answer directly.

Q: What if I pre-ordered the game but I’m not an EA Access or Origin Access member?

A: If you pre-ordered the Legion of Dawn Edition or the Standard edition, you’ll get access to the February 1 demo. If you pre-ordered but aren’t an EA Access or Origin Access member, you won’t get any Early Access benefits even though you’ll be able to play the full game when it comes out on February 22, 2019.

Q: What do I get as an Origin Access Basic member?

A: If you’re an Origin Access Basic member, you’ll get access to the February 1 demo and the Play First Trial for PC. You’ll get to play 10 hours of Anthem starting on February 15, but you’ll have to purchase the full game when it comes out on February 22, 2019 to play beyond those 10 hours. Upgrading to Origin Access Premier will give you the full game to play as much as you want with Early Access on February 15, 2019.

Pre-order now for VIP access to an Anthem demo.

Didn’t look all that special to be honest. Hopefully it turns out to be great game but I’m not holding my breath.
Yeah, my hype is definitely pretty low now. It makes me think of an MMO and that doesn't appeal to me.

I also thought this was supposed to have a more realistic tone, but all the flashing trailers and flipping around seems over-done and looks like a lot of other games. Looks way more like fantasy than Sci-fi. Half of it straight looks like magic. Inconsistent theme.

These devs need to take a page out of R*'s book and realise it's the details, and you don't have to make it bright and flashy to be exciting. I'd much rather see black smoke and explosions that hang in the air long after the fight. Make it kinetic, not cartoony. IMO, anyway...

This game started out as my future GOTY. But as time has gone on and more videos and details come out, my interest has dropped quite a bit.

I'm really starting to think that if EA went out of business it wouldn't be a big deal. Most of the talent would find jobs at other studios. The vast majority of their games are licensed titles that would be picked up by other publishers. Battlefield and Mass Effect are on the decline and who knows what's going to happen with Dragon Age? I'm not saying I want it to happen or that I think it will but I do question what value they bring to the industry as a whole when it comes to creativity.

Battlefield 1 had 25 million players in the first year....

I definitely dont want to lose battlefield, stupid politics or no. It just provides a good shooter.

Yeah it has been a great series in the past but this one just isn't appealing to me and honestly they keep pulling further away from what made Bad Company 2 so much fun. If EA were to ever close DICE would either be sold off or given their freedom before hand and I'm sure the franchise would go with them so I doubt we'd ever see the series die regardless of EA existing or not.

The stream today covered customization. It's WAY more in depth than I was expecting.

Pretty cool.

I am not a fan of EA, but without EA, the pie get Less main players & this is not good.

Competition ( independence ) is necessary for healthy market.

Power corrupts, it always does.

Dragon age team are currently a skeleton crew most likely due to this.

Get the feeling BioWare are gone if this doesn't deliver.

Dragon Age right now is more than likely an after thought right now. As to whether or not this is a make or break title for Bioware, I don't know. Certainly Andromeda didn't live up to EA's sales expectation but other than that, Bioware's track record revenue wise is pretty solid. Now EA being EA you could be right but I don't think they'd axe a significant piece of their portfolio just yet.

Paradoxically, I'm more worried about what will happen to Dragon Age and Mass Effect IF Anthem is a runaway success. Anthem is already shaping up to be more game-play than story, more shared world than individual story and more piece meal monetization than complete game. If that proves to be a winning and financially successful combo for EA/Bioware, I can't help but expect those element to creep into their other IPs.

If I had to judge how well this game is going to do just by the interest in the closed beta, I'd have to say the game is going to sell well. The website for the beta has crashed many times due to the flood of people trying to get it.

I was invited to the the closed alpha like a week ago and got a chance to play a bit today. That's all I can really say. :tounge::tounge::tounge::tounge::tounge::tounge::wink::wink::wink::wink::wink::wink::wink::wink:

I played a bit (got the watermarked screens to prove it) but haven't come away with much excitement. It is an alpha, so a lot of stuff isn't implemented and what is isn't final, of course.

But. ehh.

I will check out the open demo on Feb 1, but I don't really have much interest in this game.

My Interest is in Division 2 whick launches 4 weeks after this. So, even the demo of Anthem impresses I still wont be buying anytime soon. Might just wait till it hits EA Access.

What...repetitive, shallow,a story that a 4 year old could better, lacking content, and only gets worse overtime?
You forgot double dipping monatization, recycled areas, weapons and perks, dumbed down skill trees and builds, poor community communication, charging for content that should be free, providing a full price $60 game and forcing you to buy $100 dollars worth of crappy expansions before more than a year later the game is finally on par with the first game.......I sure hope this game isn't like Destiny!
