Anyone else annoyed with the new Netflix rating system?

It's been out for a few weeks now.

I was immediately annoyed because the out of 5 stars system helped me decide if I wanted to bother wasting time on something I knew nothing about (10 star system is way better IMO). Basically if something had 3 or more stars I'd give it a chance if it sounded interesting.

This thumbs up/down thing is not helping me in any way, it has made viewing new content on Netflix more difficult/a chore as now I have to google reviews. Now you get a match percentage when you hover over a show/movie, that's unless it's a "Netflix Original" or "new" which is suspicious to me (trying to hide if something isn't your thing if it's important to them)

It kind of seems like Netflix wanted to take away our ability to "screen" mediocre/s*** content especially if it's theirs or something new.

Anyone like or indifferent to the new system or are you guys annoyed with it too?

An example today is the advertised new Netflix Original when I logged on today was a movie called Sand Castle. Hmmmm, could be good but I have no idea so I'll just have to open a new tab and google it. Wow, it's getting 1.5/5 stars, 6.6/10 stars etc from respected movie reviewers, wtf Netflix? Why are you trying to get me to watch s***ty stuff?

edit: should I have put this in Art House forum? Not sure.....

Well, the system they had in place was basically close to a 10 star system because it went to quarter star averages.

The new system sucks, flat-out. This is truly a New Coke moment for Netflix. They say they did it to protect the content from getting slammed with 1 star reviews, but it really is going against the consumer. While the like/dislike system works well for Rotten Tomatoes, that is because it is a critic census, everyone ignores the user version on RT because it doesn't work.

Basically they need to change the review system back, and quick.

First time I've heard of it. It sucks that that's how they did it. I haven't watched anything on Netflix for a few weeks.

It sucks, no one knows how the algorithm work for matching. Netflix could skew the results in their \ advertisers favour.

I hate the new rating system. I liked the 5 star system better. Now I have no idea how good something is without looking it up.

I agree. The new rating system is r******d. I was watching a film last night and no way it's a 4/5. Looks like a low-budget film.
