Got it day one.
Pro
- Slick UI. Seems a touch faster than even the most recent X1 dashboard update
- The dash looks just like OG. Go through the same set up process and it will recognize your tv, av, and cable box
- Nice size. I'd ballpark it's the size of a PS2 OG. Even the same rectangle on rectangle form feature. It's also got an internal power supply
- Games look great, even on my 1080p tv. CoD WWII looks much better than any X1 version of a previous CoD
- I got the Project Scorpio edition (by luck.... see Cons). Nice system finish, comes with a vertical stand
- Controller feels a bit different than the OG controller. I don't know if this is the same controller as the S, but there is a slight texture difference on the back giving a bit more tactile feel
- No issues playing BC games. On X1 OG, playing some old ass 360 games sometimes lead to system freeze or stuttery green screen start ups. Smooth transition to BC with X
- No issues with pressing X button to start console. With OG, sometimes you press the big X button and the system starts, but the TV doesn't as if there is a syncing issue. No issues with X so far
- Quiet. I'd say just quiet or even quieter than OG
- Plug in your external HDD and it recognizes the games/apps on it
- If you care, it has a 4k DVR recorder, IR blaster, and some leaflets inside about free Game Pass for 14 days or whatever
Con
- Got burned with a bricked system. The mandatory 780mb download killed the system and I got an endless loop of troubleshooting screens. Even MS online chat couldn't help. If you get an E100 xxxxxxxxx error screen watch out. It got stuck at 61%, then eventually kill-switched itself to a troubleshooting screen where nothing done could fix it. EB replaced with with a Scorpio Edition
- Even when the initial download works, you got to sit through a bunch of green progress bars and an automated reboot or two. You probably won't get to the dashboard for a good half hour at least
- $500 is a lot for a console. OG was $500 too, but that had Kinect with it. $400 without it. So this is the most expensive standalone Xbox system ever.... (it's actually $600 here).
- With 4k games comes 4k downloads. Fast unlimited internet bandwidth is a must
- I read somewhere you could transfer over settings. Don't know, but I didn't. So I had to re-do all my personal, visual, audio settings over again. I had to re-pin stuff over again too
- And there must be something to do with a new system and your Games and Apps tab. Because all the hidden games I had reappeared. So I had to re-hide all of the uninstalled 50+ games, demos/betas, and apps icons I had hid on my OG dashboard
Progress % Bar
- It's an erratic bar that inches along. Sometimes it looks like it is stuck. But just give it time and it will likely continue on. If it really is stuck for good, you will (assuming) get a troubleshooting box pop up. As per the warnings, don't get impatient and start turning off the system mid-way through the update
