As of right now, are you leaning XBox Scarlett or PS5?

As of this moment, how do you expect you'll be spending your money come next gen?

  • I guess PS5, but I'm not confident

Yes. I know. This is waaaaaay premature for most people, but we're at the point when next gen rumors are starting to pick up and Microsoft and Sony are beginning to leave little nuggets regarding their next generation plans.

I thought it might be interesting to see how opinions ebb and flow as the facts start washing ashore in 2019 and beyond. It could prove interesting referencing this thread as we get closer and closer to launch. I'll post a report at set intervals showing where the forum is at a specific moment in time.

So if you had to commit today, who would you go with? (You can change your vote at any time)

I'm leaning ever so slightly towards the next XBox for three main reasons.

Seeing as that I'm basically a single game gamer nowadays, the idea that Microsoft gave 343i five years to reboot the Halo franchise excites me.

Sony Santa Monica and Naughty Dog do almost nothing for me.

I suspect Microsoft gets multiplayer more than Sony does.

Plan on both of course but one huge positive of the Xbox V(yes that's its name)
is when you buy games now...you won't have to buy them again as they will work on all XB game software compatible devices not so much BC but more of a foward compatible(FC)

So i can start my next gen library now.(kinda like PC)

Now i hear Sony is planning something similar but that is a rumor unlike in the case of XBV.

Sucker to buy them at launch and then leave them in the box for some time >.< except for the switch, my niece opened that whilst in the car lol my gf is going bonkers over me not opening the new lamp I bought, on Black Friday, for my desk...I think I have a problem

This is the first gen where I went both ways (giggity!). I'll probably go both again, maybe not both at launch, both sooner rather than later.

I'll skip the expensive vacations and pass on the mid life crisis sports car and instead spend my cash on video games.

The company that screws me over the least will be the one I choose. MS did everything right with the OG Xbox and the 360 and they got the majority of my business. MS did everything wrong this gen, so Sony got 98% of my gaming purchases.

Whoever has the system that meets my needs next gen will be the one I choose. This will be the last gen where I own multiple consoles.

Super Switch it is for you sir ;) :)

Unless MS announced something game-changing, the next console race will start with even worst ratio for MS.

Something like free game pass for first 6 months for the owners of Scarlett.

PS5 for sure, the power differential won't mean as much next gen as the One X vs Pro does now so unless MS really gets some first party stuff going that really appeals to me the One X is probably the last MS console I'll buy. I am open to both don't get me wrong and the fact that they (MS) are bringing in more first party devs is nice but if they end up just doing games as a service type of games or AA smaller lower quality types of games I'll probably pass.

Xbox, if they give 4k game streaming as alternative, they'll have the best service. I'll buy the ps5 at some point though, I'm not good at holding my money when it comes to video games, hell I bought a ps classic.

Both day one, as always. I love the exclusives on both systems and don’t want to miss out on any games.

I chose PS5, because I know I'll get that. Can't do without the exclusives. I want a strong, truly 4K-capable console from Sony.

I will probably get the next version of the Xbox as well, but not at launch. The X is already a strong, 4K-capable console, so I don't feel the need (at least now) to upgrade it further.

We'll see, though. A lot can change in 2 years.

I am surprised your new boss didn't hold you accountable for gaming money spend. Lucky Bastard.

I’ll probably wait for the mid gen upgrade if my willpower can handle that. Wait for a better selection of games at cheaper prices and better hardware.

PS5. I need the next Horizon, God Of War sequel, Spider-man 2 and ND and Santa Monica's new I.P's. Halo, Gears and Forza do nothing for me. MS will need to showcase a damn good line up of games to get me back to their platform.

I think I'm going to wait the launches out this time. We won't see any great games until midway through the cycle anyway, plus who know what's in the cards now with mid gen refreshes and upgrades being a thing.

Well... she did, but she bought shoes for about the same amount. I've learned things in regards to spend money in relationships.... just let them buy women stuff before you buy your guy stuff and mostly it goes well.

I may wait it out, but all signs point to Xbox V when I'm ready. Not really ready for another console at the moment and the X still has a lot of love to give - far beyond two more years. If Xbox V blasts out on stage with some heavy hitting, mama slapping, toe taggin' bangers on day one - I'm all in Day 0, Fr, Fr, Fr.

I buy every console every generation so I doubt anything will change this upcoming one.

If MS continues with Play Anywhere then most likely will either skip or at least wait for the new Xbox. The only reason I would get it would be for 4K games/movies as I don't really care enough to go 4K on PC for a while. That said, I'm close to finally buying a 4K TV so I may end up grabbing the X which would have me hold off on the new Xbox. PS5 is almost a guarantee just for the exclusives.

I agree, but I seriously doubt MS bought up all those studios to just make more of the same.

I'm likely sticking PS5 for as long as can too unless MS really entices me. First generation I won't own an Xbox at launch, but I don't see it lasting long.

Oh I am not saying the new studios will make more of the same but have to prove their talent and pedigree. With Sony you generally know a barometer of quality and whatever new I.P ND and SM do will be incredible. I hope Obsidian and Ninja Theory can step up as they are the most exciting acquisitions.

For sure, I just think within 2-3 years it'll be tough for gamers to only have one console. MS is setting up the new Xbox to be an exclusive heavy.
