As of right now, are you leaning XBox Scarlett or PS5?

As of this moment, how do you expect you'll be spending your money come next gen?

  • I guess PS5, but I'm not confident

For sure, I just think within 2-3 years it'll be tough for gamers to only have one console. MS is setting up the new Xbox to be an exclusive heavy.

I truly hope so. It seems like MS is going hard with RPG's and Outer World from Obsidian does look promising. But they really need those games to take off as Gears,Halo and Forza have done all they can, if MS wants to expand their audience they need new I.P's really.

Fixed to better reflect the dire exclusive issue.

Bigger problem I see is MS's GAAS ethos and Gamepass plan. If Sea of Theives is a reflection of what future exclusives will look like, then MS is screwed. Shallow, bare games being drip fed small amounts of average content isn't going to cut it, even for a $10 monthly sub service.

And I will gurantee that some of these new companies will do old IPs.

I am buying the Xbox Scarlet for the Forza/Halo/Gears rehashes plus all the other great exclusives. I am buying the PS5 for the GT/Uncharted/TLOU rehashes plus all the other great exclusives.

Both companies have amazing studios.

Always an early adopter when it comes to the Xbox hardware. I usually will wait a year or so before picking up a Playstation, unless there's a launch title that I want.

MS' BC policy will make a Day one purchase a no brainer. That and the new Halo likely launching or at least getting a boost. Regardless, I will have both. My Switch has lost it's luster pretty quickly, so Nintendo isn't even in the running at the moment for me.

Both at launch however most excited about the launch of Xbox right now. I have Game Pass paid for through late 2021 and believe Microsoft is still loading up on studios. Eager to see how Microsoft launches a console generation now that the division has the most autonomy its ever had.

Forgot to mention that. At this point I’m going to assume Xbox will have the upper hand with enhanced ports. Would not be shocked if there are hooks built into 2018 and 2019 games to receive lighting and physics upgrades on the next gen hardware.

For a brief moment I considered getting a switch but I knew that would happen with me as well, plus I can't justify buying a console in 2018 that can't even hit 1080p on a regular basis with it's biggest games. I'm just not a guy who would play games on the go so it's not really meant for me anyway, plenty of other people are enjoying it and that's great but Nintendo is probably always going to be part of my gaming past and not future.

When I was younger, & studying, this is what I felt. I need to play all the best games. But as I get older, & I am not alone, I have less time for gaming, & it doesn't matter that much. My PS4 ( my only current gen console) has been collecting dust from 2014 until this year when I got Spiderman, GOW & RDR2. If not for my long Medical leave, I am not sure I will even consider RDR2 or manage to beat GOW.

Will pick up the Xbox and PS5. Might see how long I can stay with the One X. This might be the first gen I don’t buy a launch console MS more or less dropping VR makes my PS5 purchase a must.

GET THE FUKING XBOX V, TOO!! YOU COWARD!!! GET WITH THE TIMES, C'MON!!!

Lol
Supporting the current champion usually is the safe bet. It isn’t even a contest comparing quantity and quality of the exclusives. Even switch, which came out like only a year or so has better exclusives than Xbox1. Name an exclusive on x1 comparable to Zelda?

More than likely going to hold off for at least the first price drop on whatever console my friends end up buying. We seem to lean towards Xbox, so I'd imagine we'll stick with it.

I'm not trying to compare. I havent touched anything Nintendo in an age. Guess I grew out of it. I've liked more than a few exclusives on the Xbox platform and definitely enjoy the services more. Next gen is looking super exciting too. Sales dont matter when it comes to what I like to play. Xbox has me covered, as it has since the O.G.

Buy the platform that suit you best. Everyone has different preferences..

Is it a safe bet? Ps2 was champion, PS3 was not great. X360 was champion, X1 was not great.

If anything, recent history shows you should be going with the current loser.

PS3 started badly, which is why I bought x360, but they eventually made up the grounds, both in sales and exclusives and their network. I rank pS3 and x360 even, even if I only own and happy with x360.

X1 started bad, and still lacking badly in terms of exclusives late in the race. No meaningful new IPs, and the existing ones like Halo and gears are under performing in sales and ratings. Only good franchise are the Forza.

Was the PS3 "not great" though? It seemed to have significantly more critically acclaimed games in it's library by the end of the generation. And you also forgot the PS1 to PS2 transition.

One interesting thing gleaned from this poll is that everybody seems to have their mind made up to a certain extent, which I find surprising. I really thought we'd have more fence sitters at this early stage. Union continues to baffle...

Well, I've got my feet dangling on both sides, and I gotta admit... it's a bit uncomfortable in the middle...

Halo is performing well and matching previous Halo entries. Last mention by MS was that online players was still growing vs. dropping, which is pretty rare. By all counts Halo 5 rated well and has sold extremely well.

MS hasn’t announced Gears of War 4 sales. So we don’t know if it is under performing or over performing. I suspect with 3 more Gears IPs being made concurrently right now, it has done well.

YYou mean apart from the fact that Hedon is right?

No.

Microsoft isn't rebooting Halo because 4 and 5 were such critical and commercial successes. The Halo games were prestige games under Bungie and industry leading in many regards. 343's efforts were decidedly...not. To Microsofts credit, it looks like they're trying to do something about that with Infinity.

The last Gears of War game was also the worst recieved game in the franchise from a critical perspective. I'm sure it sold well enough, but to suggest that Halo and Gears didn't take a major ding in terms of reputation this generation is just false.

He also gets a lot of other stuff wrong. I'm not sure if it's schtick like TDbank at this point, but I notice Hedon in particular is wrong a lot of the time. I don't necessarily get that impression from most of the members here.

That is pretty funny.
