Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Even if not decapitations I think at least some kind of open wound, I guess if photo mode wasn't a big thing now it wouldn't matter as much but a game about assassin's doesn't seem like the place to worry about trying to be PG :)

As far as the storms yeah the rain looked better in black flag for sure, the lightning effect may be a bit better here, the bolts in BF were pretty big and cartoony but it still looked really cool plus they had the water spouts. That brings me to something I forgot to mention which is a lot of games this gen don't seem to bother making the surfaces look wet when it rains, they barely even show splash from drops hitting the ground. Last gen it seemed most games that made weather a focus had water running down walls or at least made them look wet, most games this gen seem to skip that. I'm sure it's more of a resource management thing and trying to squeeze performance out of other areas but I'm a sucker for great all around weather effects and I hope next gen that's something that gets more attention.

I don't recall game not having things get wet or splashing. Seems pretty standard. Origins in particular had (what looked like per-pixel) water soak up through dry clothes based on contact. Slashes left a lot to be desired. Way understated.

I've been playing the Wircher 3 again, and it has good splashes and being wet (though it's pretty much just a higher specular setting) has water running down walls, etc. Of course, that's the witcher...

Totally agree about the expressions. It really diminishes the impact and believability.

When talking wet I mean like actually looking like water running down walls and seeing realistic splashes on the ground when the rain hits, it's bad enough so many games still use plain white lines to simulate rain but when you don't see many splashes, when they rain doesn't impact on the surface of water at all and the sides of buildings often have virtually no change to the surface it just seems like a step back compared to last gen. Yes the characters get wet but even in this game when rock climbing the rocks don't get wet when it's raining, there isn't any kind of glossy sheen to them they look the same as if it weren't raining. I know they can only do so much and it's likely more of a performance issue than something they are willfully ignoring but I miss that.

Has anyone beaten that huge boar?

I did and I’m playing on Hard mode. It was a tough fight. The main boar is really easy, it’s the small ones you need to worry about. There is a Warrior ability that releases a stun blast - I used that on repeat to beat that fight. That and the heal ability.

I just used the arrows with paralysis on the small ones. It didn't kill them but it kept any new ones from showing up and I could concentrate on the big bastard.

I did and he was harder to beat than the bear at the same level lol. They need to work on the hit detection with the boars, I've had arrows go through their lower bodies and when they come at you they hit you even when they are several inches away.

This has been the only game where I've played more than 2 hours straight since playing Ocarina of Time or Link to The Past waaaayyyy back in the day. I'm liking this better than Origins so far.

Even with not really digging Origins, or having much interest in the setting, I might've played this game were it not coming out so close to RDR2...

Oh my gosh I just now saw how much outfit packs cost in the store. Holy hell 15-20 bucks for an outfit??? That is the literal definition of insanity Ubisoft!

Man they got me on this one as I own the game digitally, but I would sell the game for that crap alone. As it is, that kind of pricing on micro transactions will absolutely impact what I purchase in the future. That’s disgusting.

I'm about 17 hours in, but I played the first 14 under the influence, so I can't remember much and have to relearn everything, ha.

Seems pretty good so far. Pretty landscapes and all the usual WRPG staples. The characters and story haven't hooked me, but then, I was kind of out to lunch for the first dozen hours, so maybe that's on me. It's a huge game, it'll take me a while to get through. I'm just taking it easy, exploring.

This game is a completionist dream or nightmare depending on how you look at it. Sooo much stuff to do and boxes to check it’s crazy. This game really can be played for months.

Wasn't having much fun with it, so I put it up on ebay. I ended most gaming sessions with a feeling of mild stress and annoyance, which isn't a good sign. I enjoyed the exploration but the combat was just okay. After 20 hrs, the gameplay was feeling pretty repetitive ("eh, another camp, here we go again"). I just wasn't getting into it, and I was finding it more stressful and tedious than fun. It didn't feel like ancient Greece to me. I didn't feel immersed. I didn't give a s*** about the characters.

Maybe it was just bad timing, and I would've enjoyed it at another time, or maybe I f***ed up my experience by playing the first dozen hours toasted. Either way, it was causing me grief, so I'm moving on to something else.

The only thing I don't like about the game is the bounty hunters are whatever they're called. Fighting one for several minutes at a time isn't fun. I'll probably restart the game in the future because all of my gaming time is spent on RDR2.

I've bought a few of them, they are like $5.00, you have to buy the credits they use as currency but the packs themselves are nowhere near the prices you quoted unless they've added some since the last time I played it (over a week ago)

I don’t agree about the game, but I’m big on not trying to push myself to play a game. No matter the hype if it seems like a chore I move on, so definitely agree with you on that decision! I used to force myself through so many games lol.

Well the Underworld pack is 1500 credits plus another 500 for the boat skin. To get that you would need to purchase the $20 pack to get 2400 credits.

Disgusting, especially since I bought the season pass lol.

Hmm I'll have to check, they had several packs after launch that were about $5.00, this one seems to likely have taken more work but still they cant possibly justify charging three times as much.

Yeah what you may be seeing is they separate the armor, weapons, and boat skin.

So for the Underworld pack the armor is 750, the armor plus weapon and horse is 1500, and then the naval stuff is separate for 500.

Yeah I bought a few that came with the armor, weapons and a mount for $5.00 or something like that and the naval things were separate. You could buy the stuff separately as well but still they weren't anywhere near as expensive as a package as this new thing is, at least they weren't at launch.

I may be going through a phase where I'm just not enjoying games much. I don't think it's anything in particular about this game. It was just a mismatch between me and the game, at this time. I made a thread recently where I was stumped about what to play, because nothing really appealed. That's kind of the place I'm at right now. There are a lot of games to choose from, including some highly acclaimed ones, but I've just got no real interest/motivation.

I agree about the Bounty hunters. I was two-thirds through a large fort when I triggered a couple of them, and I had to flee because I wasn't a match for them. When I returned, the fort had reset, so all my progress was wiped out. That was annoying. I started doing all the fort stuff over again, and about halfway through, the game froze. Irritating. I decided I was done after that. The rest of my day was peaceful and enjoyable. Why pay to be aggravated.

Yeah it sucks because they are great outfits. Would be nice if you could earn them in game, as it should be, but like I said I’m definitely remembering this the next time a Ubi game comes along.

Pretty much every single game aggravates me in one way or another these days. It's usually controls or difficulty that leads to severe aggravation for me. This game the difficulty of some if the enemies is the cause, and the sloppy controls are my issues with RDR2.

I haven't had any game freezes so far with this game, but it's indeed infuriating to try being stealthy and having a place cleared out, getting killed, then having to restart again. I found paying off those bounty hunters was my only option at times.

I paid them off, but they kept coming for some reason. Maybe I wasn't stealthy enough.

If you pay them off while they saw you with the bounty, you still have to fight them. Pay off any bounties before they see you. I’ve made it to Tier 1 mercenary at this point so they dont really bother me anymore.

Ah. Seems like the game has a lot of systems that it takes a while to figure out. Of course being stoned for half the playthrough probably didn't help.

Don't forget, if you have paralyzing arrows, you can knock out the bounty hunters and recruit them for your ship. If you want easy kills, just climb onto a tall building/cliff and either pick them off with arrows or kick em off if they get to you (heavy attacks also have a knockback effect that can push them over).
