Assassin's Creed Odyssey

You don’t need the HUD at all. I turned it on just to see the difference and it’s quite something. In Exploration mode you can still use the eagle to highlight things and still markers when you get close to them. I’m the map you can still most things as well. It’s just removed from the main gameplay screen. I hope they keep this idea for future games. It’s excellent.

That's good to hear. I was concerned that "Explorer Mode" would turn out to be weakly implemented, but it sounds like they did a good job of it.

Any comments on this, though?

"The game does indeed allow you to work things out on your own, but that's only to a point. Once you're confident that you've found the right place, you'll receive confirmation of that because a popup will appear telling you that Ikaros, your eagle that allows you to highlight objects and locations in the environment, can now be used to find the exact location of your objective. After all the work you've done to just find the general area of your goal, it feels like this mechanic works in complete contrast to what exploration mode is going for. It's not like this option becomes available once you're right on top of the target either, because the popup appears once you're within range of about 200 metres. It feels like cheating in a mode that promotes the idea of going it alone. Sure, you could just ignore this option and continue to search on your own, but the fact that it even exists breaks the immersion almost completely."

I'm tempted to buy the boost even though I'm only level 6. Don't have enough time to dedicate to this game unfortunately.

Grabbed it today. Going to try it out soon.

Have not had any issues with leveling, but I enjoy and do a decent amount of side quests.

I am reading it's a drop in quality from Origins.

F**k me this plays like DLC to Origins......which is no bad thing....the RPG dialogue tree is a joke....No branch in story line I can see....looks wise Origins looks way better on the X

Apparently the branching is minor in the beginning but becomes pretty significant as you move through the story.

Here's the DF analysis for the base consoles, if anyone's still stuck using those.

PS4: 1600x900 -> 1920x1080

Xbox One: 1344x756 -> 1600x900

X1 has longer loading times and worse framerate.

Origins looks sharper at times but I think Odyssey looks better.

Yes sir. I already bought this today, I just haven't gotten around to caring enough to open/install it.

It'll look plenty good on the Pro.

I both agree and disagree with that. I think they tried to implement a new idea, and that works great, but they also did some hand holding on the mechanics to help players adjust.

I’ve payed the new mode from the start and I absolutely love it but equally it hasn’t left that it’s been challenging. It has improved my enjoyment of the game significantly though that’s a great.

Not a chance. It’s better than Orgins in nearly every way save for the fact it wouldn’t be as good if it didn’t have Origins to support its base.

He seems to think that he HAS to use the eagle option, just because there is a prompt for it. I wonder, is there a way to turn that prompt off? That would make it easier to forget the option. And do you know, can you find your way to the objective without the eagle spotting for you?

I wouldn't mind them using the map lay out and maybe adding a few waterfalls here and there and doing an AC Viking game. The look of the world is beautiful but it looks pretty multi purpose when outside of the cities which is a good thing. If you removed the architecture I wouldn't know where this was supposed to be. I do appreciate the that this game has a lot more foliage than Origins, it's also just more colorful in general. I'd also give them some extra credit when it comes to how they modeled the sharks and dolphins, those usually aren't done well (or often) in games but they've done a great job here, the Great Whites even have that sort of sinister looking grin on their face when you catch them at the right angle just like they do in real life.

Only console peasants play on base consoles. :grin:

You don’t need to use the eagle. But you do get prompted for it when you get close to an objective. I don’t think you turn that off. Honestly with exploration mode being so immersive when you get prompted for the eagle it just flows in naturally with the game play. But you can find objectives without using it. When you activate a quest you get some bullet points on the top left of the screen explaining how to find it. And detail of those descriptions depends on the questions you asked the quest giver.

Good. Thanks for the info.

I don't get the idea that Origins looks better than this game, origins had a lot of empty land, this game has trees all over the place so of course that's going to eat up more resources, you also have rain in this game which Origins didn't have. Both are great looking open world games but I think when you take everything into account Odyssey is more impressive.

Graphics are amazing. My only complaint is I’m not a big fan of the weapons.

Only one I haven’t liked so far is the staff. The spear is great and the sword & dagger combo is great as well. Haven’t tried the battle axe yet.

Origins and Odyssey were developed partially in-parallel, right? That could explain the visuals being similar.

Odyssey looks great to me. I spoiled myself and watched DF’s analysis and can agree that draw distances are great but close-up textures can be disappointing.

I would say it’s a bit better looking than Origins and both protagonists look considerably better than Bayek’s model.

Yes sir. I had no issues with how origins looked last year on the Pro.

I saw this in a DF article:

"Take a look at the screenshot comparisons on this page and despite what looks like a yawning chasm in pixel-count between Pro and X, the Sony platform holds up fairly well - it's only at the lowest points where the differences are pronounced. We saw exactly the same thing with Origins last year - X presents extra clarity and refinement, but not a game-changer experience in line with the numbers."

"X offers additional clarity and minor visual refinements, but the game looks and runs well on both of the mid-gen refresh consoles."
