Assassin's Creed Odyssey

Only one I haven’t liked so far is the staff. The spear is great and the sword & dagger combo is great as well. Haven’t tried the battle axe yet.

I don’t like the feeling of the heavier weapons, too slow. I’ve been sticking mainly to swords. I think I switched it up more in Origins.

The heavy weapons are slow. They are all about timing. Try side step and follow up with a light attack. Or guard break and a light combo. I much prefer the fighting and weapons in this over Origins and I really loved Origins.

I got my ass kicked by some female cult member. She was a rolling, high kicking, karate moving badass.
Game is great.
As for slow weapons, yeah the heavy ones swing like a ton of bricks, so I use the double blades. Splash a little poison on them amd you're slicing through them.

The only thing I for sure liked better in Origins was the spear, as in that game you had straight and sweeping attacks. Here you only have straight attacks

No, the spear has a sweep attack. It’s just done as a combo move. Honestly I think the spear is the best weapon in Odyssey.

I saw this in a DF article:

"Take a look at the screenshot comparisons on this page and despite what looks like a yawning chasm in pixel-count between Pro and X, the Sony platform holds up fairly well - it's only at the lowest points where the differences are pronounced. We saw exactly the same thing with Origins last year - X presents extra clarity and refinement, but not a game-changer experience in line with the numbers."

"X offers additional clarity and minor visual refinements, but the game looks and runs well on both of the mid-gen refresh consoles."

With my new 4K HDR Sony TV, there is no way I would settle for less for the same price.

Origins and Odyssey were developed partially in-parallel, right? That could explain the visuals being similar.

Odyssey looks great to me. I spoiled myself and watched DF’s analysis and can agree that draw distances are great but close-up textures can be disappointing.

I would say it’s a bit better looking than Origins and both protagonists look considerably better than Bayek’s model.

Yeah the faces on the main characters look better but Bayek's voice acting was much better IMO.

Yeah, I haven't yet seen any multiplatform game yet that's drastic enough to really care that much. Especially this late in the generation.

I am not sure I am comfortable playing a male character that does not wear pants.

Hmmm, I’ll have to test that out. Thanks

Actually it may be the staff that has the sweep attack. I’m not sure. I’m not able to do all the combos moves on the spear but I haven’t gotten it to work lately.

I'm trying to finish up Tomb Raider before playing this. Those screen shots look awesome.

They've paid a lot of attention to little details but one thing that stands out to me when taking pics is the lack of facial expressions in combat, most AAA games have that now a days but I guess when they have so many other things to focus on some things are bound to not make it in.

If this game had baby graphics, extremely bad voice acting, side quests with bad rewards that give you absolutely nothing in regards to progression and nonsense weapon system... but had link as main character, it would get 10/10 from every media reviewer.
But it doesn't, so it'll land 8s instead.

Do they still not even have heads getting cut off in this game? I've long subscribed to something Tim Schaffer said during Brutal Legend promotion. Something to the effect of "If you're going to have battle axes in your game, they better be choppin' off heads." I think that applies to any game where your primary weapon is (or can be) a blade of some sort.

Those pics are amazing.

I’ll tell ya Ubisoft is far from perfect but they put out some of my favorite games, I really love the Assassins Creed and Far Cry series in particular.

Odyssey has been a joy so far. It’s got one of if not the best looking open worlds, the combat is consistently fun, the leveling is a tad slow but the side quests are entertaining so not a big deal, and the story so far is actually interesting.

Far Cry I can take or leave but the last two AC games have been the best they’ve ever done. This one on particular is just jaw dropping in places.

Well I finally figured it out! The sweeping attack is the charge ability for the spear that you have to unlock

I just started using the staff and the axe last night and I like them a lot, was afraid they'd play like the spear which I don't enjoy at all but they don't.

The staff is my favorite so far. I wish it had more variations though, they all seem to look the same so far

Oh finally!! Thanks. I knew it was there but I could only get it working once in a blue moon. So it’s the charge attack!!!

Yeah the staff is great, nice speed and reach vs the axe which is pretty slow. I've switched to staff and daggers for now.

I'm kind of jealous of the people who are super into AC's new direction. I miss the past games' focus on social stealth, crowds and assassinations. I played origins & am not really a big fan of the direction they've gone. To me, they took the series in the opposite direction of everything I thought made the franchise unique.
