Assassin's Creed Origins

Funny enough so many Xbox fans are talking up Ark because they are doubling the framerate on that one game yet ignoring the fact that it's still staying at 1080p, it's not getting a resolution boost at all. This is undoubtedly the most powerful console but it does have it's limits.

It's almost like at least some of the people mentioning that are responding to very specific, repeated (so very repetitive) judgments about the CPU which, if they were correct, would lead to what was demonstrated with said game being impossible.

Yeah I know, already talked about this a few posts before the reply to yours. Just funny that the beginning of the trailer says "captured in 4K" they are using the term as loosely as Sony was at first. Having it be the first actual gameplay of their "4K no compromises" event and it's not only using checker boarding but dynamic res on top of it just seems a little funny. Especially with his comments about the Pro not being competition because it's not a true 4K machine.

I totally expected when it was announced that not all games would be native, 6TF's is powerful for a console but it's not enough power to get native 4K on all modern games. Is it staying 1080p? I could have sworn the dev talking to Keighly said it was 4K with variable frame rate.

No...but you are not stupid either. We all know not all games are going to be native 4K.

Yeah I know and I'm not complaining about it not being native 4K either it's still going to be the highest res version on consoles. Just pointing out that it's not only dynamic res but CB yet the first thing on screen is "captured in 4K" which is a bit misleading that's all, same as when Sony was saying it at first about the Pro.

The quote I read said it was "targeting 60 fps" but that they weren't going to make it 4K, that it'd be 1080p 60.

Instead of targeting 30FPS like on the other consoles, we’re targeting 60FPS for the Xbox One X. I would say most of the time for PS4 Pro you would be seeing 30FPS on PS4 Pro at 1080P, whereas with the Xbox One X you’re going to see double the frame rate at 1080P, 60FPS. We might even allow the frame rate to go higher than 60 FPS, but we’re still looking into that. Right now it’s actually uncapped but on a TV it’s not that useful [because they’re locked to 60Hz].

Previously on PS4 Pro, we had the option to choose between frame rate (720P@60FPS) and resolution (1080P@30). We removed it because it’s a better experience for the users now.
We’re not targeting 4K resolution or anything like that, instead we’re targeting higher quality pixels.

It is 4k though.

It is 4k though.

It's a way to get near native 4K but calling it "4K" without an * next to it seems a little sketchy to me, it's not the end of the world though and they aren't the only ones to do it.

They didn't say native 4K though.

Tye final image after render is in fact 4K. So it is 4K.

So all checker boarded games are 4K? I love the idea behind CB, get more for less and save resources for other things. I think it's awesome and it's a smarter use of the power than just trying to go native 4K, been saying that the whole time but it's still a compromise IMO, a very little one but still a compromise none the less.

Yeaah I just saw the video and I was mistaken. Still, it is far more than an FPS bump.

Still it's not a huge deal, the way people were talking about it I thought it was getting 4K and a framerate increase, clearly they are doing stuff on the GPU instead of the CPU and that's smart use of the power as well.

The thing that strikes me is the way people are talking about how crisp the image looks over other games, "first on a console to look this. looks more like a PC game."

Probably a mix of the higher than average settings, resolution, and art. I think we are so used to medium settings on console that it just really adds alot to it with the higher than average resolution.

If the final rendered(without post rendered upscaling) image is 2160P then it is 4K. It isn't native 4K.

CB is great. i was a supporter when it came clear Pro was using it and I am still a supporter now. Quality CB is exactly that, quality. Only way you will notice it is if you specifically look for the telltale signs or DF tells you.

But if I have to wait for digital foundry to tell me if it's checkerboard or not, how will I know whether I'm enjoying the game? I'd hate to invest ten hours thinking I'm having a great time, only to find out later that it's checkerboarding and I was actually a miserable cur. I'm not sure I'm ready for this new microgeneration after all.

That's exactly what I would say too, there will probably be 20x more pros on the market by the XoX launch is here.

I know right.

That exact thing happened with Killzone on PS4. People were enjoying it but once they were told it used something similar to checkerboard to acheive the performance levels it was the end of the world and court proceedings quickly followed.

They have definately chnged some things. We no longer have a minimap and now have Skyrim like compass which makes it seem less like a like a checklist and more about exploaration.

The combat is now more akin to an action game with LB or LT doing your shield and RB & RT for light & heavy attacks, but from what I have seen the combat looks way too simple. Not sur if you can unlock combos and moves.

The world seems more Far Cry-esque with factions fighting and wild life attacking.

It also has a gladitor arena.Hopefully that means a coop horde mode.
I saw a panel, and the dude speaking was talking about how they put a ton of work into the fighting. Lots of combos for each weapon, and how they want each to feel different from each other. It's also based on hit-boxes now, where apparently before it was all tied to animations. I'll see if I can find it.

I saw that too. All that work, and it looks rather weird when polearm/spear have a distinct lack of collision.

There was some, but it looked like a lot of the swings with a spear would fly through multiple objects. They should just make it all standby and call it a day. :p

Still, I can't wait to play around in Egypt, and run around the pyramids, the colloseum, and the Acropolis!

They mean hitboxes for combat. Not as in having a physical presence. It's tough to do that, as large weapons would always be getting snagged or bouncing off walls. I'd love to see that though, as it would make fighting different depending on how tight the conditions are. A spear would be great in tight quarters where an opponent can't dodge though. I'd like to see them show how great a weapon a spear is. Usually they make them kinda slow.

This game looks gorgeous. Looking to add it to the collection of Assassin's Creed games I have started but never finished.

The game certainly looks impressive and I applaud Ubisoft for changing up the formula but I think this change really needed a GTA 5 gameplay style trailer video to illustrate the changes. This game very much resembles an RPG and the fact you cannot stealth kill enemies above you is an interesting choice. The combat definitely seems to be more challenging and parry/countering seems more harder to pull off. I hope the change pans out but I think it will take some time for people to understand the changes. At it's core it is very much a Assassins Creed game but systems underneath do change quite a few elements of the franchise.

The clarity in the distance is unlike anything I've seen on consoles and its XoX first open world showcase AND it's in alpha. Can't wait to see this on a 4k screen.

A guy that took a pic in Ubisoft's booth said he asked a dev about the game running on XoX and he said it would look better by release. Water is wet I suppose.

I can't stand hippopotamuses. Gap toothed fatties that had great marketing in the 70's to make them lovable, but they still don't have any redeeming qualities except for explosive pissing.

Same as Pandas. It's like, Hello! Get off your arse and breed more! Learn to eat something that grows in more than 1% of the world! And what's that? Your penis is too small and you have erectile distinction? No wonder you aren't getting on with yo' woman! Go out and get a real job!

I'm not saying they deserve to go extinct... But... They're not exactly easy to root for.

And Glow worms? WTF? You glow in the dark, so things can find you easier? Stupid! You touch a glow worm? They die! You shine a light on a glow worm? They die!

you'll notice there are no more collectibles which are just 'collect X just because'. Everything has a gameplay value. We want players to feel rewarded for just exploring, getting lost in the world. There's a ton of stuff that's hidden which you'll be able to spend hours finding. It's stuff which tells you things about Ancient Egypt, but will also explain why this story, this character, this setting all align to reveal the origins of the Brotherhood. It all leads to something.

Good read about the game from Eurogamer. The above quote is what really stands out to me. I love exploring and finding things that are relevant to the world/story. I stopped playing AC games a while ago as I lost interest but there was one where you had to explore these tombs scattered around and it was a lot of fun to find them and then explore them. I think that and the naval combat in Black Flag are mechanics that I really liked about the AC games that I've played. That grapple hook added to one of the games I didn't play looked hella fun though.

This game still has to prove itself to me that its worthy of a purchase. The main issue I had with this series was how combat played out. I remember being surrounded by enemies and then have them wait as I dealt with them one at a time. My hope is that the tech has progressed so that fighting a group feels a bit better, maybe a little bit like how group battles played out in the Arkham games.

The game world looks absolutely stunning. I'll be keeping an eye on this one.

I can't get this game anymore, didn't anyone do their research? Hippo's can't swim, they sort of walk along the bottom and hop up but they can't actually swim :p

Clearly I'm kidding I am going to get this game for sure but the hippo thing is funny to me.

Yup, it's a fantastic looking game. We say that about a lot of games but something about AC: Origins just screams eye candy.
