Astro Bot - PSVR's Mario

Some quotes from different reviews:

Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is a showcase to how VR should be utilized moving forward.

A smart, funny, unpredictable game that testifies to how the VR can truly change any game.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission delivers on the potential of PSVR and is a must-buy for owners of the device.

Super Mario 64 showed us the possibilities of 3D platform gaming more than 20 years ago. Now, Astro Bot: Rescue Mission is finally here to do the same for VR.

A superb game; the promising result of tasking a group of clearly talented game designers and developers with building a game around a brand new medium like VR

Α condensation of brilliant ideas and decidedly inspired platforming, which, thanks to VR, acquires an enchanting dimension.

Astro Bot is really the PlayStation VR's killer app, and defines what VR can do, a bit like what Mario 64 did for the 3D.

In some ways, it is to virtual reality what Mario 64 was to 3D, as it uses a new technology to push new boundaries in the genre.

Well, I did it. I saw Amazon was running this bundle for $299 and I heard good things about Moss, so apparently...here we go. Package arrives on Friday.

Great choice! That's a really cool bundle. Lots more games coming this fall/winter as well.

For setup, be sure you play in a dimly lit or dark room(light messes with the camera) and the camera usually does better at 6-7 ft height pointing down but you can try different things.

Lol playing through the challenge modes is pretty damn hard. I can see this lasting for weeks.

I finally set it up. Played the first world, all five levels which took me about an hour. Quick impressions from someone with essentially no VR experience...

- The Mario 64 analogy...kinda holds true in my eyes. I was smiling, by myself, for the first 10 minutes of play.

- After that though, the effect largely wore off for me. Still impressive though.

- Actually wait, playing online multiplayer was probably the next biggest "Mario 64 moment" in my opinion. This was still cool to experience though.

- Holy crap this is sooooo inspired by Super Mario 3D world's on the 3DS. Sony did a great job ripping that game off.

- Resolution and field of view in the headset we're both a bit disappointing to me.

- There were a few moments when I got queezy, though not enough to get me to stop playing.

I'll play a bit of Astrobot and Moss tonight with friends.

Great. It's gets even better too. World 1 was fun, but I really like how it progresses. You're on ps4 pro?

Awesome, yeah that game has a lot of fans. I'm pretty shocked that the resolution was bad for Astro Bot on pro though, its very clean for me. Maybe its the headset adjustment or the eye distance tests?

This game is absolutely fantastic! It's like both taking a step back in time, and a step forward, all at once. The quality is the most surprising aspect. It feels like a Nintendo or Sega game of old. It's hard to not think of Mario or Monkey Ball while playing this game. It's so hard to convey how cool the VR aspect is, but you are controlling your character, as well as sometimes being a participant, yourself.

Horwitz was correct on Twitter. After playing a few levels, you're hooked. After playing a few worlds, you'll never look at platformers the same way again! Before, there was a debate about whether a 3rd person game would actually work in VR. Now it's like oh yeah, of course! Bring on a Tomb Raider game! The platformer genre though, now seems like it's just waiting to be tapped. How about a platformer in AR now? Why not? I did not expect this kind of innovation from Sony Japan. It's just such a quality title! If you wanna feel like a kid all over again, get this game!

I've been showing people World 2-2(wow) and it's been legit blowing minds. I really enjoy the challenge modes too.
