This is probably one the biggest things to happen for PSVR. The most loved demo on the Playroom gets at a full-length game. The graphics in this game are absolutely beautiful, one of the best looking console games I've played this generation, but you can only grasp it inside the headset, videos don't do it justice. But, you can have some idea how it looks I guess.

Reminds me more of Sonic Adventure.

Can’t watch the video at the moment, but wasn’t luckys tale touted as the mario of vr

I didn't know it was in VR. But really all the Mario clones that are good have their own thing. Playing the demo, this game has some similarities, but not really. It's very different.

So this is PS VR's Mario huh. I don't know about all that but looks cool.

You would really have to play it. The gameplay doesn't look exactly like Mario, but its probably the most excited I've been for a platformer not being a fan. It's very difficult to convey how cool it looks in the headset.

IGN: ASTRO BOT IS SHAPING UP TO BE A KILLER VR REINVENTION OF THE PLATFORM GENRE

Finally, mainstream media is catching on to these gems.

Got damn, IGN Japan not even avoiding the comparison:

Sony finally produced a 3D platformer comparable to Mario. Not only diversity of game play, Astro and other BOTs have enough cuteness to become a mascot character. If "Super Mario 64" is the first 3D platformer showing the possibility of 3D games, "ASTRO BOT: RESCUE MISSION" should remain in history as a game that opened the future of VR

10/10 Masterpiece.

Lots of talk from many different reviewers about how this is a gamechanger. The sad part, most people won't have the opportunity to experience this masterpiece, they'll just look at the videos and think they "get it" when they have no clue.

People are losing their minds over this game lol. It's really something special. I played about 2 hours last night and it's easily the most fun I've had with a platformer in years and it's absolutely gorgeous, best visuals on Pro I've ever seen but you have to see it inside the headset to appreciate.

Game informer won't review but said this:

They won't get enough clicks so they ignore reviewing it. Sad.

It's tempting to buy a PSVR for this. I might pick one up this holiday season if there's a sale or bundle.

Have you tried any of the VR headsets?

My entire experience with VR begins and ends with a 20 second session in a Verizon store with a phone attached to some goggles.

Tell me, I assume you have PSVR? Do you recommend getting a PS4 Pro if someone were wanting to pick up the headset too?

I will try this game when I get back from vacation in a couple weeks. Looking forward to it!

I'm not sure how close to PSVR that phone was, but I would think its far less capable.

I have PSVR yes. I'll give you the honest, hard truth. With PSVR you lose resolution, convenience(set up takes me 2 minutes instead of 30 seconds) in favor of framerate and immersion. You'll never play a 30fps game with PSVR. Everything is 60-120fps locked. You don't need pro, but its definitely a benefit to offset the resolution hit. It's just a cleaner experience with pro

I would consider buying one of the PSVR bundles and giving it a try for a couple of weeks, THEN if you like it, consider a ps4 pro too. Just my two cents. There are things to consider like motion sickness as well so give it a trial run. For me, the positives far outweigh the negatives with VR gaming, but I'm an immersion first gamer.

Astro Bot Rescue Mission feels like it came out of nowhere to quietly prove that familiar genres can feel like new experiences with the aid of virtual reality. While the medium is capable of creating entirely new interactive experiences, Rescue Mission serves as a great reminder that the styles of games we already like can be translated to VR, and when it is done as well as it has been here, you get a chance to experience something that feels genuinely new and exciting.

If you’d told me a few days ago that a game starring The Playroom’s little Astro Bots would be my VR game of the year, I’d have said you were loopy. If you’d even suggested that this same game would be a genre-busting platformer, I’d have suggested that you go and have a nice lie down. If you’d expressed the opinion that this game might be a killer app for PSVR, I’d have said you were misguided. Yet here we are, and Astro Bot Rescue Mission is solid gold."

Astro Bot is a for VR platforming instant classic. In some ways, it is to virtual reality what Mario 64 was to 3D, as it uses a new technology to push new boundaries in the genre. We would have loved for it to last a bit longer though !

A journalist got slammed for calling this game a Mario 64 moment in the history gaming before it came out and now alot of people are agreeing with him.
