Dear Phil @P3

Was playing Crazy Taxi on my phone, love it. Would it be ever too much to ask for Crazy Taxi 3 in the next batch of Xbox BC, please and thank you.

Your fan,
Me

I've noticed that shift in tone, too. It's big. A lot of people forget that these "Sony forums" were very positive about the Xbox 360. Many of the Sony fans are ex-Xbox gamers who felt let down by MS circa 2010 to 2016, but who are now regaining some of their faith in Xbox.

The Xbox One X has been a big factor in that shift as well. As you know, these are hardcore gaming communities, who attend to DF analyses and care about having the best hardware. That's what won a lot of people to the original Xbox and 360, after all (me included).

BC is a big factor, too, though. In addition to the 4K upgrades of stuff like RDR, I think the recent announcements about original Xbox games really speak to us former Xbox gamers. If I want to get nostalgic with my gaming, I don't think about Nintendo, PS1 or PS2. I think of the original Xbox and the 360.

I fall into the crowd who mostly played on the original xbox and 360 over PS2 and PS3 but BC on the X1 didn't really appeal to me until they were able to start making these "4K" upgrades to them on the One X. Playing the Witcher 2 and RDR with these enhancements totally makes them worth playing again IMO, I tried going back and playing them as standard BC games and the drop in IQ compared to current games was just too much for me and it hurt the experience so I wasn't going to play them anymore but now I will.

For some reason, I was never able to get into RDR. I think I'm allergic to Rockstar games: I've never enjoyed any of them enough to play through to the end (except GTA 3), although I've tried.

If they made a 4K upgrade of Morrowind or Jade Empire, though, I'd be in. I don't think that's on the agenda, though, ha. Burnout 3 would be a nice game to see upgraded to 4K.

I love Rockstar games, but everyone has their own taste so there is no right or wrong there :) I am not into westerns at all but RDR caught me off guard and it's one of my favorite games ever even though the gameplay isn't anything special and sometimes controlling the horses can be annoying, they just know how to build an interesting world IMO.

Dear God Gears 2 looks awesome In 4k

It does. I’ve been playing through the campaign since it received the update and it fits in nicely with current gen games. Not as pretty as Gears 4 but holds up well against other current gen AAA games. What’s surprised me is how much fun I’m having with it. Last gen I quit the Gears franchise when I met those stupid rock worm segments. This time I’m really enjoying the game. Actually having a bit more fun with Gears 2 than 4 due to the lack of robots.

MS owes me Gears and Gears 2 for buying Gears 4....
Was on the phone for about 2 hours trying to prove the promotion and am still waiting for them to resolve this.
Want my fn games!

Did you check your messages?

It should be there in the messages from Xbox Live section.

I'll hit you with a PM with some codes in a bit though, I think I have extra since I got them with Gears Ultimate Edition and then again with Gears 4.

I really need to replay RDR in 4K. It’s been so long.

I agree Andy. I would love to get a Burnout 3 4K game. Maybe even include Revenge and sell it. I’ve even considered buying Paradise as a vote for support hoping they would.

Can another source or link confirm that? My interest would be increased if I knew I could play Morrowind, Jade Empire, and Burnout 3 in native nearly 4K.

I've seen that number several times on the internet. Those games will be just shy of 4k, from 480p to 1920p. I didn't even know burnout 3 was coming 100%, but the others are.

Assuming default output was 480p thats:

960p on Xbox One S
1920p on Xbox One X

They said OG games are simpler to do so they can enhance all games. 360 games need to be enhanced on a game by game basis.

A couple things make me hesitate. First, he doesn't say "all." Is he perhaps referring to some but not all games? Hard to know, based on a tweet. Second, the article he links refers to 1080p resolution, without any reference to higher resolutions. I'm assuming he's linking an article describing the original 13 games, because that's what he's talking about, but it's kind of odd that the article doesn't support what he's saying. Third, it's Penello, who doesn't have the greatest reputation (I don't know the specifics, but he was the butt of a lot of jokes at GAF).

So, I hope it's true, but I'd like to see a clearer confirmation that all OG Xbox games are native near-4K. If so, that would be great. I'd love to see before and after footage of Morrowind (or the other games I mentioned).

That looks really nice, thanks (anyone interested in Morrowind and Jade Empire should watch around 3:20+). Whew, I'd forgotten how rough and flat the originals looked. Yipes.

But what a nice upgrade! That's great. Textures in Morrowind still look like s***, but there's nothing they can do about that. He doesn't mention specifics about the resolution, but I assume those details will be forthcoming when the games release. Regardless, the difference is very substantial.

I'm impressed. It's like getting a remastered version of the game for free. Very cool.

The framerate of Morrowind is substantially improved, I can tell its leagues better just from those clips. Obviously, the resolution is way higher too.

Good point. That game sure chugged at times.

Still holding out hope for Wreckless lol

Game looked incredible on Xbox, would LOVE to see it running on X.
Agree, though that game just didn't give a crap whether you could actually progress or not. Some of those pseudo platforming sections were infuriating.

So Psychonauts, KOTOR and Ninja Gaiden are basically 4K now? Add more stuff to the backlog.

I beat Gears 2 this weekend for the first time. Surprised by how much I enjoyed the entire campaign. Damn!...Dom and Maria. Didn’t expect that in a Gears game. Visually it really held up especially in 4K. It looks better than Microsoft exclusives this gen like Crackdown and Recore. Getting rid of previous gen jaggies makes many last gen games fit in well this gen. Only the big budget stuff from Sony, Ubi Soft and EA look better than the big budget stuff from last gen in 4K IMO.

Basically, yes. Kotor as i recall is 4:3 so some of those 7 million pixels are as black as my soul. But for widescreen. Oh yes.

Gears 2 campaign is my preferred. It takes the dull corridors of the first game and ditches them for massive OTT set pieces. FYI the campaign DLC is free at the moment (as are the map packs) Its a 'deleted scene' just after the Dom/Maria cinematic and its about another hours worth of gameplay.

Thanks for the info. Yeah I agree about the campaign. It had great pacing as it moved between large set-pieces and quieter corridors. I feel like pacing is a lost art these days. It wasn’t perfect as it had too many perfectly placed levers...and rock worms...but overall it was a good time.
