Best place to go if you didn't pre-order?

My X1 is pre-ordered and paid for, but now a buddy of mine wants one (he's generally lazy and procrastinates anyways), so can anyone suggest a place to go on Friday? I saw on the PS4 thread some people had luck getting a PS4 on launch day at BJs and Target..?

My mom procrastinated as well. So I reckon we are going to Walmart for their midnight launch. She works there so she gets a 10% discount. I bet Kmart would be worth a try as well, atleast in my town.

In Canada the FutureShop and BestBuy flyers state they will have at least 20 unreserved units for launch to sell, so your buddy might have a chance of getting one, if he doesn't mind sitting in a line for a long time.

seriously - have him go to the local gamestops and spend some time talking to the reps there...

then ask to be put on the short list for any canceled preorders...

I find if you actively.visit these stores and show you're serious then usually they will bend over backwards on the long run to get u what u need...

I know others have different opinions and it may just be the area I live in but GS here is extremely professional and caters to those who develop relationships at the individual stores...

Costco. 94591, 94533, those two stores for those in the Bay Area I know will have a TON for walk-in.

Gamestop still has PO's available so launch day it shouldn't be 2 bad getting one.

Im sorry, but there are not Pre-orders available, Heh at least where I live. I have been told pre-orders have been gone for awhile. The few times they re-opened pre-orders they were filled in a day. Best chance of getting one at this point is K-mart or getting in line early at local bestbuy/walmart, because they should have some available for non pre-order.

Yeah I wouldn't believe anyone concerning gamestop. The anecdotal portion is, around my area people have been warned it'll be worse than the other. On the other hand, they've both been 86'ed for months. Try a big box store people wont usually go too.

Costco. Few gamers think of Costco for gaming needs. Their game selection is poor, but systems they got a plenty.
I'm going to try walking into a Costco. They told me their 90 day electronics policy does not apply to consoles. So if X1 RRoDs on me I'm covered.

I'm hoping the store stock isn't reflective of online stock as Costco Canada's online stock has been out of stock for a month. And even the controller + charging kit combo pack has been sporadically out of stock too.

For people willing to test their luck on Shoppers Drug Mart, they might carry it too. Some stores have games, some don't. And if you're very lucky, you can time snagging a system when they do their big 20x loyalty pts card thing effectively saving you probably $50-100 via store credit pts. Probably enough to get you a game for free. But don't bother putting a lot of effort trying for this one as it'll be a long shot and only for the very lucky and patient. Consider this buying strategy a last resort.

If the second hand price is still $1000 come friday, I'll sell you mine

You live in the north bay area Variance? I live in SF but grew up in that area. Been to the Green Valley Rd. Costco TONS of times :). My bro got his 360 at the Vacaville Costco back in '05. Costco was a lesser known place that flew under the radar back then and maybe still a good source for launch day now.

Sears, costco

This. A few friends wound up with 360s on launch day by checking out Costco. They called me to use my Gold card the day they found them, because the shmucks there would sell them one without membership. Does this practice still go on,because if it does thats awfully s***ty.

As for Sears I'm not so sure about. The ones around here have seriously downsized their video game sections. Its all 3DS systems and an oocasio0nal pS3 or 360 box that looks like it fell off a truck, really awful. If they do get any X1's in it'll be a very select few probably.

Yes I do. Yeah either of those Costco's will have them. Most places like that fly under the radar and have.
