Blade Runner: 2049

We are planning on seeing this opening weekend Can’t wait!

Same. Going with my girlfriend who has never seen the first. She has no interest in seeing the original either. She only wants to see the second because of pretty boy Gosling. Anyway bought the tickets and ready to go. I told my girlfriend she was going to the movie with me or I'd dump her. I don't make idle threats.

So has anyone here actually seen this yet...?

Awaiting impresssions! Reviews are still super high.

Saw it. AMAZING!

Everybody gave out of this world performances.
I even got emotional in some scenes.

10/10. Easily.

Also that early plot twist holy s***!!!!

Another thing. The visual splendor of this movie is on another level. In terms of the original I would say 2049 is actually better.

The movie is an instant classic. Worthy and surpassing sequel.

Looks like it's going to bomb, despite positive reviews and an A- from CinemaScore. Only $12 million opening Friday (this is including $4 Thursday early screening). So we're looking at a less than $40 million opening weekend. Way below the $60 - $70 million prediction. Maybe the lack of mass/family appeal and the long run time hurt it. The first one also flopped at the box office and was misunderstood by the public despite positive reviews. Though later it achieved cult classic status but it has never been popular outside of the sci-fi crowd.

I found the pacing a bit slow in the original and Im not a fan of Harrison Ford. But I may watch the second one.

I just got back and as a big fan of the original, I loved it. I can totally see anyone who wasn't a huge fan of the original not loving it though. Sadly the theater was mostly empty when I went... sounds like the movie is bombing which really sucks. They really don't make movies like this anymore... probably because people like me who enjoy them are rare. :(

Yeah. It is a thinking movie. It is sad because the original bombed as well but gained prominence through the years.

Loved the original. Rarely watch movies in the theater so most likely going to wait and just buy it. We'll see though if I can get around to watching the first again I may catch it in the theaters eventually.

Movie was amazing. Do a good deed and go see this in theaters. Sucks that it’s not doing well it is well deserving the success. Better than the original.

I want to see it again in a nicer Cinema while it's still showing. My local theater is okay, but this is such a great visually movie I want to see it a second time.

Wish I could do IMAX, but the closest one is 2 hours away.

Much better than the first one.

Magnificent photography and tone. I'm not certain if the top level story was as interesting as K's personal story, but I was still fascinated by the film overall.

Here's my issue:
I do think the story was a little too on the nose, being pretty much a reverse of the original. Also, this whole new "revolution" that was merely alluded to seemed out of place. If they showed the revolution actually happening, that would be more impactful.

Scott had to step down from director duties following a scheduling clash and Denis Villeneuve stepped up to direct Blade Runner 2049.

"I shouldn't have had to make that decision," he told Empire magazine recently. "But I had to. I should have done Blade Runner 2."

Scott went on to direct the sci-fi horror film Alien: Covenant instead of the Blade Runner sequel which ended up starring Ford, Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas and Jared Leto.
