(CNN) -- At least 20 students were injured Wednesday morning in a stabbing incident at Franklin Regional Senior High School in the Pittsburgh area, said Dan Stevens, an emergency management agency spokesman.

Four people were flown to hospitals by helicopter, he said.

A message on the Franklin Regional School District's website said all of its elementary schools were closed after the incident, and "the middle school and high school students are secure."

Authorities said a suspect was in custody.

Information on what led to the stabbings and the conditions of the injured were not immediately released. The students range in age from 14 to 17, Stevens said.

The school is in Murrysville, about 15 miles east of downtown Pittsburgh.

Students were being released to their parents, Stevens said.

20 people injured from a stabbing? Seems like someone should have been able to stop him before he got to 20 people.
 
20 people stabbed by one person? I can't really imagine how that goes down.
 
On the bright side, he didn't have a gun. And all are expected to survive.

That's ridiculous. I bet it was some idiot trying to prove that knives kill just as easily as guns. Can't wait to hear that argument again. See, see! If someone's able to stab 20 people before being stopped then what's wrong with guns?

Doubtful. Everyone knows the purpose of guns as a tool is to kill. Which is why they're so effective at just that. I would have to quesiton the intelligence of anyone attempting to equate the carnage they can both do.

I read it was a 16yr old boy with two kitchen knives, many of the wounds were severe and would have been fatal if they hadn't received treatment in time.

Stab wounds like gun shots are most lethal due to bleeding out. they call it the miracle hour, if you get treatment within an hour most gunshots and stab wounds are treatable, hell 7/10 people who are shot survive. but TV educated gun twits believe what they see in movies and think any gun shot is deadly.
 
Makes my point, by your math 6 people wounded today would have died if it was a gun instead of a knife. Survival rates must be really high for knife wounds.

No matter what crazy people will find a way to kill and hurt others.but hey let them do what they want as long as they don't use a gun right......
 
The real question is where were the parents in all of this!? Kitchen knives should be kept in a safe that only parents can get to, not just lying around the kitchen where a child can easily get to it! This is an outrage!

Yup, people will harm others with whatever they can get their hands on, purposefully and accidentally. No one is saying this won't happen.

Thankfully he didn't have a more effective tool at his disposal. And as you've pointed out, it saved many lives because he did not.
 
Seriously, 20 people? Jesus, you'd think people would be tackling him after the 1st.

The kid probably didn't have access to a gun. So he resorted to knives. The bright side is that it seems everyone will live.

If the kid stormed the school with a duffle bag of guns and started spraying, I bet any money a bunch of the kids would be dead on site, a bunch dead on the way to the hospital and a bunch more dead in the hospital.

However, has any pro-gun user come up with the excuse that a kid with bad aim spraying a hallway could lead to zero hits, while a slash up close is likely a success.?

In a way, thankfully most of these psycho shooters/slashers aren't smart enough to actually efficiently harm people. Most probably are nervous or drugged up with a whacked out mind and just go around slashing and spraying at almost random direction.

If these guys actually thought about it, they could just storm a room, block the door and mow down a classroom of 30 kids and the teacher as they have nowhere to hide (and most kids wouldn't have the skill or speed to efficiently jump out the window).
