Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

Played a bunch more today. The regular MP is growing on me we had a lot of fun with a full squad.

Blackout is definitely the best BR game on the market. Pretty much nothing about it annoys me. PUBG and Fortnite has its annoyences.
Hate COD for the most part but found the BR to be pretty good.

The design plays it very accessible.

Agreed 100%.

I just think in this case, accessibility and longevity are working against each other.

Treyarchs best bet to keep this game relevant well into 2019 is to be aggressive with it's updates. Scouting tools in particular need to be added.

UAV drones, thermal cameras, radar pulses etc...

I was right about PUBG. I was right about Fortnite. I'm definitely right about Blackout too. This game is in more trouble than anyone would like to admit.

I consider you the best info regarding cod games here, how does this stack up? How's the different modes?

I've been having fun so far. There is a good amount of maps, so nothing ever gets too stale. If you enjoyed Black Ops II, you'll enjoy this. Probably the most fun I have had since either that game or Black Ops III.

Treyarch has yet to let me down.

Fortnite had more Twitch viewers on Black Ops 4's launch day. I think we can put the "Fortnite killer" moniker to rest now.

On a more serious note, I played a few hours tonight and found yet another reason why this BR mode is lacking.

The game struggles to support team oriented play.

- There's rarely incentive to trade guns, ammo, and items with teammates.

- Communicating with your teammates during a battle isn't as effective as it could be due to such short TTK. Pre gunfight it still matters though.

- Getting knocked results in instantaneous death 97% of the time. There's really no interesting scenarios that develop around a knocked teammate.

Playing duos or quads really feels like each team member is playing a solo match, where you ask your mates "Are you good?" at the end of each fight.

I feel like the human in that pig face episode of the Twilight Zone right now.
Watch all the big streamers like DrDisrespect and Viss and Lyrik and them and all the thing you said don't happen do quite often. They trade guns, give ammo and health to each other and communicate during fights and revive knocked squad mates all the time.

Played more regular MP this morning. Best COD in years. Found my groove I like the Rampart AR and Nomad operator. Good selection of maps with some old favorites.

This is the time to jump back into COD.

Sunset mad the game so good.

I’m buying/playing it for the traditional multiplayer. Blackout may be the big new feature but after playing PUBG for the last year it’s not for me. Blackout is the add on that great if it stars but don’t really care if it fizzles out. It’s the side show for why I purchased it.

I impulse bought the game then when going through the menus remembered there was no single player mode :smash: How is everyone finding MP?
Yea I forgot about no SP. I never did play Blops 3 SP although I enjoyed the first two. Blops 3 is the last CoD I played so can't compare with the others, but the 4 hours or so I've put into so far I've been enjoying. It does seem really similar to what I remember from 3 so not sure if that's good or not.

It's not a matter of "do happen" or "don't happen". It's a Battle Royale mode which naturally lends itself to communication, trading, and reviving teammates.

What I'm saying is that few of the mechanics aid in those occurances happening.

Take for example knocking enemies. A feature I think we can all agree objectively benefits the genre. It creates a more dynamic engagement when there are knocked players crawling around on your team or the enemy team, during a fight.

Here's how Fortnite encourages the event:

- Knocked players are granted 1 second immunity from damage as soon as they're knocked. A lot can happen in that 1 second.

- Allies can build around knocked players to hide or buy them time.

- Reviving players takes a long time in Fortnite. Attacking players don't have to worry about the enemy team getting a quick rez off if they tend to more pressing issues.

Here's how Blackout actively discourages the event:

- Knocked players are not given any immunity. Attackers can keep holding fire to finish off knocked players and it will only take them an additional .25 seconds to do so.

- Reviving knocked players is much faster in Blackout. If I knock someone and then quickly run around a building, the enemy team can get a quick rez off. Letting them do that is detrimental to me winning.

- Gun fights are much faster in Blackout. If me and my teammate are both in an engagement, and I knock my guy, I can either finish him off, or run to my distressed teammate. In a game where gunfights frequently last less than 2 seconds, why would I run 5 seconds to go help my mate? I'll just take an additional .25 seconds to finish my guy off and hope my ally is OK by the time I get to him.

I could go into detail with communication and trading but I'll leave you with that for now. Blackout does so many dumb things from a design perspective.

This is a COD game alright. Day one I was melting people, picking up quad feeds just three games in. Day two? I'm getting melted, and my teams are losing by 40 kills.

TDM has been pretty competitive. Every objective game type we’ve tried we always go against godly teams and get massacred.

Kill Confirmed the only objective type that has been decent.

Looking at gameplay videos of this and fortnite... it's pretty clear that this actually looks like a real game compared to the candy store game fortnite is.

Sounds great. Sign me up.

This is the first COD I have played where I have more losses than wins. Ever. And I've played them all.

Could really go for a mercenary moshpit, but I know Treyarch hates that kind of a playlist because the population is always low.

I’ve been staying about 50/50.

COD WW2 was the worst playing solo. No matter what mode I played I would get brain dead teammates while I took on the other team by myself. It sucks when you have badass stats and the next guy on your team looks like they’re playing blind. COD is one of the worst games to play alone when friends are not on.

For not having played a CoD since Blops 3 I'm doing pretty good. K/D is positive at least but yea seems like matches are hit or miss on how "good" they feel. One match I can melt, the next I'm being shot before I come around the corner.

Also, if anyone on Xbox wants to add me feel free. I probably won't play a lot but if you ever need another person to fill out a match I'd join up. Also not sure how much zombies gets played. I tried that yesterday and enjoyed it.

The frame rate on the One X in squads is absolute s***. It hitches all the time. Solos and duos are smooth but they need to sort out squads.

How does it compare to BLOPS 1 and the original COD 4?

Call of Duty®: Black Ops 4 has set a new launch day record as the biggest day one digital release in Activision history. Digital sales for the first day of release broke the franchise record set in 2017 by Call of Duty®: WWII. Released Friday, Black Ops 4 also set a new PlayStation record for day one digital full game sales on PlayStation Store, globally. The title also quickly became the best-selling Activision Xbox One digital game on day one, globally. The first Call of Duty release ever on Blizzard’s Battle.net, the PC version of Black Ops 4 also delivered a new franchise high in which launch day PC digital sales more than doubled year on year

Ah yeah, that's insane to top Activision's previous records, no easy feat, they are on to something.

For me, most every BR game I've seen looks completely uninteresting except this one. They look annoying, silly, or just buggy as hell. This is something that makes me as player feel like I can jump in and have fun with immediately. I don't even want to be good at building ramps and walls faster than other players while bunny hopping and no scoping.

This is acceptable team balancing, according to Treyarch.

What in the hell?

It's a Dora the Explorer Chess set vs a $500 Lord of the Rings themed Checkers set. There's a certain percentage of adults who would rather play checkers.

I also read it sold the fewest physical copies in 11 years, I wonder what the split is going to be between digital and physical?

Yeah, Blackout most likely did not break overall game sales records for Activision. If digital + physical sales were the highest in franchise history, Activision would have told us so.

Tried Blackout for the first time last night. Also the first time trying BR. Only did one match as we were waiting for a 4th to arrive. I just don't get it. I'd rather do regular MP and have nonstop action instead of sneak around for 5 minutes just to get shot in the back by someone hiding in the bushes. I'm sure the kids love it and have all the time in the world but when I'm playing I've got about an hour or two before I need to do something different. Getting too old for this s***.
