Call of Duty: Black Ops 4

I also read it sold the fewest physical copies in 11 years, I wonder what the split is going to be between digital and physical?

Yeah it sold half of what WW2 sold at retail so I doubt the digital sales went up enough to make up for that. Losing the campaign clearly matter but the question is are the sales hurt enough to make them care?

I see that 11 year number as UK only?

Yes

Other than Blackout mode, there's really nothing exciting about it. The maps are forgettable. It feels like a stopgap game. Also, lag comp is just as bad as it's always been.

You just described every COD from the past decade

Yea the connection can be all over the place.

I'm kind of glad I resisted the urge to buy. Hearing the same old complaints about lag comp from just about everyone. Blackout looks like fun but only goes so far. The lag comp just instantly turns me off. In one game, I'd be a god, the next, I couldn't shoot anyone. The time to kill is just so short that any tiny bit of lag comp is a massive problem.

These maps are, by far, the most boring. Too many open areas and pathways. What made COD fun was choke areas that both teams fought hard over to control. That's gone, and has only gotten worse over the years. There's really only two good maps. They are maps from previous games, Firing Range and Slums.

Seems pretty choke pointy to me.

And Summit is way better than Slums

I'm still enjoying it for now, but we'll see how long that lasts. I haven't played CoD since Black Ops 3 though so at least taking off a couple years seems to work for me. Plus I hadn't used my Xbox in over a year and felt like jumping back in with the crew from before.

As a gamer, I was disappointed with Cod since MW2. Slowly with every release that feeling turned into resentment and hate. I can honestly say this is the first time I have been happy with a Cod game in f*cking years. The Blackout mode is the star of the show, and it's amazing for a BR game. I was surprised that the Multiplayer portion was good as well and I haven't even touched zombies yet. All in all I feel the game offers plenty of entertainment.

Things that I am not happy about however: 1) Connection sucks 70% of the time and I'm assuming this is due to server overload. 2) Not looking forward to returning to an annual Cod franchise again as I convinced myself to stop buying these games a few years ago.

It just seems like it is completely unnecessary to release a game annually nowa days. Especially now when you know for a fact that devs can keep updating their games to keep them alive for YEARS. They can even enhance the visuals via updates.

But overall it feels good to be back playing Cod with this release. I can see the game finally has some quality injected in it and the BR mode added life to the series IMO.

Played a couple regular MP matches earlier. This time I saw what I’ve seen in previous COD’s. My go to gun was taking more than normal bullets to kill someone and they would kill me in less. Got frustrated and got off. Did not experience this the first couple nights. This should not be a problem in 2018 when other shooters don’t have noticeable lag comp match to match.

I'm done with this game until they fix team balancing. This is getting outrageous. If I didn't already have 7 hours in it, I'd be asking for a refund from Microsoft.

EDIT: I asked for a refund from Microsoft, and they gave me one. Time to delete this nonsense from my hard drive.

COD is always s***ty about balancing teams

I've played so much Blackout that I'm almost embarrassed. Completely addicted to it.

Yea I didn't follow Blops 4 so didn't know what the game really was going in, outside of the fact they added Battle Royale. I had forgotten they got rid of a story so loading up the the game for the first time I thought I was back in Black Ops 3. The operators are all pretty much the same, it seems like a lot of the guns are the same, and most of the maps seem to be from previous games as well. Like you, I don't see why this is a full new game honestly, although maybe with Blackout it warrants it this year, but going forward it seems like they can just release DLC and keep adding to the game.

It definitely seems to swing match to match, and even during the damn match. I've had a couple now where we smoke the other team in the first two rounds of Control, then get wiped out to lose the entire thing. It starts out feeling great, but then all of a sudden I'm putting half a mag into someone's back from 5 feet away, only for them to whip around and kill me in two shots. Or when I'm getting shot coming around a corner, only to see in the killcam that it looks like I took several seconds to notice the guy. It's all over the damn place.

Yep COD has never been about skill it’s always about that connection. Sometimes not so bad, other times I want to throw my controller through the tv because no matter how many times I hit someone they just will not go down and can smoke me in a couple hits.

Fortnite is a great game, different and not my type, but great.

Calling it chess, over-inflating it's tactical aspects and painting building as the epitome of teamplay-focused gameplay? lol.

Building is complicated, it can be difficult, and (I have to admit) it has a skill-ceiling. But trying to argue that building makes the game better is pretty dense. It naturally comes at the expense of gunplay. That's okay for people that want to build in a game. And it's silly for those who want to play shooters.

On a side note, I would like to see a temporary immunity for knocked players. A whole second seems rather long however.

Also, would agree on the maps. Treyarch is usually spot on with the maps, but this game focuses too much on maps with no sense of "flow," for lack of a better word. Maps are so damn small, with too many hallways and flanks. I tend to gravitate with maps that offer some possibility of map control instead of a constant mad dash into objectives.

Not sure why they went this route. BO3 maps were pretty great all around. They even did the wall running well enough. But this game, even with boots on the ground feels much more mindlessly chatoic.

Also the spawns are trash.

Lag comp is what it is, mostly fine imo. And I like the higher TTK. Just want better maps and spawns.

Looting could be improved in blackout, but its fine enough once used to it. Would like to see both guns in inventory screen, and a quicker way to switch attachments/heals/equipment.

I might me in the minority in hoping that blackout LOWERS the player count. 100 is too many for the small map.

Tried the Heist mode it is kinda like Counter Strike you earn money and unlock what you want between matches.

Also tried Control mode. It’s really good with a full squad we never lost a match.

As for the lag comp it is maybe 1 in 4 matches. When it works against you it is very noticeable it is so hard to kill people. Other than that frustration been good times now. As for the maps I like the remakes far more than the new ones.

Skipped the last few, just bought this, waiting for it to DL. Looking forward to trying out blackout mode.

Last night was the worst for me in terms of connection. Nearly every death it felt like other person was pre firing coming around the corner. Nothing you can do about that.

That sucks. There was that one COD game that just had awful netcode and never worked right. Maybe MW3? They just never could (or would) fix it. With this being so much more popular hopefully they do. I never seemed to have a problem in WW2 but haven't played in awhile.

I'm also glad I canceled my pre-order (which I only did to get the beta in the first place) rather than going through with buying it. I really only considered picking it up to alleviate the burden of waiting for RDR2, but when gamefly shipped my copy the day of release I had no qualms about not buying the game. Got it a few days ago and I've played a bit, it's kinda fun, but it's certainly nothing revolutionary and I doubt I'll touch it again come next week.
