Delay needed to happen but what a dismal year for Xbox in terms of exclusives. Such a lackluster and meager offering that even the most ardent xbox fans cannot defend it. They seriously need to get their crap together because Sony and Nintendo are killing Xbox right now.

Its disappointing but its not the end of the world like many are making it out to be. Its not like there's a lack of 3rd party content arriving this year not to mention the ridiculous backlog many Xbox gamers have. I've got so many games I'll never finish them all, not including the ones I'll buy at the end of the year.

But, this is Microsoft. Thank god it wasn't delayed when the eclipse is scheduled to happen. I shutter to think of how many suicides would take place.

Fuk, me. I don't get people. Most thought the game looked bad to begin with. Suddenly its a big deal when they delay the game to improve on it, yet gamers still bitch and moan.

This is a good thing because Crackdown would've been sent out to die with its scheduled release date. A delay gives it a chance. I also believe Microsoft should steal some of Sony's strategy where they release big games during the first half of the year. It creates better balance to the release schedule as 3rd parties will continue to send out their heavy hitters in the Fall and for the Holidays. There isn't good reason for Sunset Overdrive, Recore and Crackdown to be going up against 3rd party heavy hitters. It doesn't benefit the gamers, developers or publishers. I also believe giving new or refreshed IPs more time to cook and increase quality will help their chances of sustaining success.

I've been highly critical of the Crackdown unveil yet it's a franchise that I very much want to see succeed. If the fully destructible multiplayer is still a goal, then I'm also hoping for a healthy community. Releasing next year gives it a better chance. Happy for this announcement.

Yup. I remember several people here assuring me, back in Sept, that 2017 would be the "Year of the Xbox" and a tough year to be a Sony fan. I would like to take this opportunity to laugh at those people.

Well, 2018 should be better -- Sea of Thieves, State of Decay, Crackdown, another Forza, Ori 2. They've learned Sony's secret to having a great next year: delay all the games from this year.

Great comebacks await.

You guys must be nuts. I think the delay will do well plus they are si many titles coming out wiyh the X1X crackdown might be skipped.

Moving to early next year is a better space for this title. Plus more time to develop.

How is this a bad thing?

I hope the devs use their time wisely with the delay. Don't pull a Mass Effect Andromeda.

Last September it was Killer Instinct Ultimate, Gears 4, Dead Rising 4, Horizon 3, Recore and Ori Definitive vs just The last guardian.

Who on earth would play up 2017 when 2016 was already a 'year of xbox'?

But then I also remember a 2 months ago I pointed out Xbox One had more releases this year than PS4 in 2017 (which is still correct) and you told me that you didn't trust wikipedia over gamestop, then stuck me on ignore cos I guess you didn't want an upset tummy.

Not the end of the world. The game clearly needed more work. Better to get it right than to rush it out. Doesn't help the launch of the Xbox One X though. Hardcore Xbox gamers are going to buy it, but you needed that one game for people to get excited for.

Maybe now people can stop giving companies crap about delaying games. If a game isn't ready, it isn't ready. Although when you delay or cancel almost your entire 2017 lineup you pretty much take the cake there. Microsoft needs to get it together.

It's certainly not the end of the world, but it certainly does cap off a slow year and makes it feel even more barren to have it's biggest title of the year get bounced to next year.

2018 was already looking to be 10x better before they even mentioned the CD3 delay (off the top of my head):

Ori and the Will of the Wisps
Ashen
Sea of Thieves
Playerunknown's Battlegrounds
State of Decay 2
Forza Horizon 4
(either very likely or maybe a new spinoff?)
The Last Night
Fable Fortune

Then add Crackdown 3 to the list. Below will probably come out of hiding and Killer Instinct: Season 4 seems like a strong possibility.

If you were hoping for exclusives in 2017 on Xbox One, it's been pretty slow up to this point:

Halo Wars 2
Voodoo Vince
Gigantic
Path of Exile
(coming very soon)
Forza 7 (coming soon)
Cuphead (coming soon)

Outside of that we have a PUBG beta (Preview?) to look forward to. The first 3/4 of the year has been very dry.

Where is Below damn it!

I completely disagree that there hasn't been anything to play on Xbox in 2017. Just because big 3rd party games are also on PlayStation and PUBG will eventually come to PlayStation doesn't mean that Xbox gamers are starving for games. Unlike old days, most 3rd parties outside of B tier Japanese studios make everything multiplatform.

That said, Xbox 1st party is struggling to rebuild after they tore everything down and leaned out for a potential sale of Xbox division. All Spencer can do is be smart with the assets they do have in the pipeline and maximize them until they can build back up. They are hiring within Rare and for another large project so I expect them to fix it over time...but it will take time. It takes 4 years to start a studio from scratch and build AAA games. After State of Decay, Crackdown and Sea of Thieves, all Xbox owners will have to look forward to is Halo, Gears and Forza for the next few years in terms of big budget exclusives. It's not the worst thing to admit. It's also not the worst thing in terms of games to play. The big publishers now provide the jaw dropping games that only 1st parties used to provide. I believe the ecosystem, controller and where friends play is more important to the casual gamer than exclusives. None of these exclusives have the attach rates like the blockbusters of the past.

I agree with everything you said but this isn't going to do anything to the X1X launch, that game was never going to be a showcase for it anyway. The older titles have fans but they weren't huge hits either so this is really a win all around. As you said the game clearly needed more work and I never expected it to really launch this year anyway, I wonder if they really did? seeing as the delay comes just two months after the release date was announced. Either way devs need to be given the time and resources they need, the final product will speak for it's self one way or the other.

Nobody thinks there hasn't been anything to play

Well, I'm hardly starved for s*** to buy this fall, so it doesn't bother me much. Gettin' used to delays stinks, but my backlog ain't gettin' smaller...

I'm not a fan of CD or waiting for this game but the development of this title sure is interesting. What a rollercoaster. Really sucks for those who were looking forward playing it this year.

For sure, my backlog is still completely f***ed. I feel like I need to hire a game completion coach to get me focused or something, is that a thing?

My only point was that people looking specifically for exclusives only might be disappointed in that specific list of titles. At the end of the day I still ended up buying a ton more games on XBO than the other two I own.

The prospect of the One X boost keeps me buying my third party games on the 'Bone. It's hard for me to think of someone who is ONLY looking for first party titles.

Being multiplat means I don't much care who makes what. I can play everything but Ninty games... For now...

The best two games this year so far have been first party in Zelda and Horizon which completely invalidates your idea that 3rd party are the best developers. Both 3rd party and 1st party have top developers.

I agree. And oddly enough, it's multiplatform games that I play more than first party games. I will spend substantially more time in games like Assassin's Creed Origins, Call of Duty WWII, Star Wars Battlefront 2, Destiny 2 than all of the PS/Xbox exclusives combined, x 5 this year. The most popular games, and longest lasting games seem to be multi-platform games. That is why we see GTAV, COD, Minecraft, etc in the top 10 every month, every year.

Now that I get to add games like Tacoma, Forza, Cuphead, Crackdown, etc, as well as games like Nier and Horizon, I have the best of both worlds. I have the most powerful console in the world to play exclusives on, as well as multiplats, and then I have the second most powerful console in the world to play exclusives on.

For this generation, it's been 3rd party multiplat stuff that have carried most of the sales and gaming hours. The Fall will put that back in balance. Nintendo is a different animal and I'm referring to Xbox and PlayStation. It's not even debatable as stats back it up.

Being multiplat means the only way I can differentiate between them is through exclusives. I shouldn't have to buy a new console to make X1 relevant.

Exclusives are not a problem for most people who already own an Xbox and are squarely in the Xbox camp -- i.e., most of the people here. They just shift their attention to multiplatforms. You can hear it: "I love my multiplats, that's most of what I play," etc.

For you, it's not a problem. The problem is sales to new owners. For people who don't already own an Xbox (i.e., aren't here on this forum), exclusives are a big differentiator. They aren't the only reason people choose one console over another, but they are a big one. We can see that clearly in how the differences in exclusives have affected sales ratios this year, with MS now being beat 2 to 1 in their strongest territory.

2013 Killer Instinct?
And year of Xbox?

Yeah stats back up 4 Switch games are in the top sales slots.

Pretty smart- 4k tv plus XOX will be significant lift. In all honesty I will have a budget for a handful of games in a packed holiday. Crackdown was likely not on that list. Come spring maybe so.

You skipped where I said Nintendo is a different animal. Nintendo goes entire years without much of anything (1st and 3rd party combined) so everything they put out sells. Even when Sony and Microsoft do release decent 1st party games, there's a chance of them being trampled by 3rd party games. Sunset Overdrive, for example.
