Crossplay - Gamers Win

I know that seems harsh, but to act like a solid feature is trash absolutely REEKS of blatant fanboy-ism. Yeah, making people pay for a slight upgrade is ok, but a FREE 4K/60 version of the game you already own is trash? Seriously? You would say this if it were Sony offering this?

It's the damn same to say that having a feature like letting people with other consoles play together is some kind of bad thing. Like all of you care more about Sony's nuts than being a freaking gamer and playing other gamers. Seriously, people are absolutely mental over such an easy topic because of some plastic allegiance.

Anyone who says backwards compatibility is unneeded is garbage. I am personally attacking people over video games. fite me. I'll take this risk.

Gaming is not only about the newest releases, market trends, and whatever fad is catching on. If someone believes that older gaming generations have nothing to offer modern consumers, they do not belong in the discussion. Allowing these games to be available does not hinder anything and only expands potential libraries and the experiences a person can have on one platform.

That there's data to prove backwards compatibility is frequently engaged in also proves the anti-bc perspective is ignorant and selfish. There is next to no reason beyond judgemental malice that someone would not want older games playable on new hardware. The effort console makers put in to do so doesn't hold back any other aspect. These games are part of the industry's history, good or bad, and *plenty* of them are good, bordering on some of the greatest experiences in gaming. Quality doesn't just cut off at a certain point. All games of all eras have this potential to resonate for anyone.

Eat dicks. That's all I have left to say to anyone who actively wants to stifle this feature for present and future generations.

Sunset he be trollin.

Anyways I love BC it’s nice going back and playing games I enjoyed, never finished, or always wanted to play. Plus some are enhanced as a bonus. You can also still play online on most of the BC titles. We’ve had fun playing some of the COD MP again. Anyone that thinks BC is uselessl or a waste of time is out of touch with gaming. Stop falling in line with the kiddies mind set when it comes to gaming. (too much Fortnite will rot your brain)

As for cross play it is not a feature I had to have, but it will be a nice addition to MP games and make the communities even bigger.

BC is awesome but i'd still rather play my older consoles when playing old games. Unless there's a noticeable upgrade like X1 offers on some 360/OG Xbox games then what's the point? So easy to just swap consoles out and play older games on the native hardware and in a lot of cases games look better on the original hardware anyway.

Not arguing that BC and cross-play aren't good features but pump the brakes. People claiming PS fans wanted it when Xbox wouldn't do it last gen? Give me a break. Nobody cared. It was an interesting feature that everyone expected to happen at some point but there was no rush. Ya Sony wanted it, and Microsoft didn't at the time and then vice versa this gen. Who cares. Like for real.

And call me a troll all you want but i really doubt that Xbox fans would be that crazy over BC if Microsoft was pumping out new games. People needed something to go back to and play cause Microsoft sure isn't putting out many new experiences this gen. Sea of Thieves and State of Decay 2 are the only new games in 2 years. That's unreal. Okay, Forza Horizon 4 also. Big deal, another racing game. I'd be fixing to play decade old games too if Xbox was my only platform.

People are going to find out really fast that this is all about perception, they "wanted crossplay" but it's not going to make a bit of difference in the real world. If you already play popular MP games on PS4 or X1 you don't have a hard time finding a full game as it is. I have no problem with them doing it but I also had no problem with them not doing it.

Nah. I'd love to have it for COD 4 because I don't want to buy it for my PS4 to play with my friends. I want it on the X, but I have to buy an inferior version to play with the people I WANT to play with. The difference in playing with friends or Randoms is vast and you know it.

First two sources are from Microsoft who like to spin data in self appreciating ways, as all companies do.

First source doesn't give us context. We need to know the overall hours of XBox gamers to see if 1 billion is a lot. Is 1 billion 5%? Is it 1%? Is it .0001%?

Second source is even less meaningful as someone like myself would be counted in that statistic. I've said all along that tons of people try old games, realize how poorly they've aged, and stop playing after five minutes.

Third source is our best source because they don't benefit one way or the other from spinning data.

Fourth source falls in line with the 2nd source. I'm sure the vast majority of people who picked up RDR on the 2nd go around failed to play it for any length of time.

Ignoring for a moment that fanboy clicks are almost certainly figured into an articles value, the source itself links to multiple amendments.

Proper interpretation of our xbox usage data
Correction: Undercounted usage data in our xbox unleashed analysis

More information would put these claims into better context, but we don't have it. I don't imagine for a second that they would continue to invest in this feature if it was not used and profitable and that's the simplest I can make it for you. The sources reporting on engagement are there whether you want to believe them or not, microsoft continues to support the program, and every article reporting on additional games are always met with praise. Nothing left for me to say.

And you know that MOST people own the console their friends own to begin with.

ArsTechnica, and that article in particular, don't read to me like fanboy clickbait. The article was incredibly thorough and they even stood by their original stance after having to be forced by MS to add the amendment.

"Microsoft has given us no significant reason to doubt the basic reliability of the separate "ownership" sample in our report..." - Kyle Orland, ArsTechnica

Lastly, it doesn't seem like anyone wants to actually have this discussion as you're bringing up old points that I've addressed repeatedly. I've never claimed it was a waste of time for MS to work on BC. I've always said that BC is largely (not for everyone) a marketing gimmick that appeals to what gamers think they want. IE, playing old games seems very appealing until people realize that old games haven't aged as well as they thought.

Marketing gimmicks can be financially profitable. Doesn't mean they're not gimmicks.

But you're right. We can only repeat the same stuff so many times. I bid this conversation adieu.
