Crossplay - Gamers Win

Its not much of a gamer game though.
When/if other actual gamer games get the nod...it will be great.
I'd take cross saves and be happy.

Psyonix, Microsoft, and Nintendo tried to flip Sony on this for years. They failed. It took the biggest console game in the history of the industry to actually do it. Hence, Fortnite is currently the only game with true crossplay right now. Sony is "looking into" additional games.

You might not like Fortnite, but the game united the tribes. Everything has changed because of this game.

Awesome. Maybe now people can stop complaining about something that doesn't really matter to them in the first place. I'm sure some people legit wanted the feature. I welcomed it, but it's not that important to me.

The tables have turned again. Just when you think some fabricated advantage was yours.. Nope. Your turn Microsoft. Stop charging people to play free to play games. I mean after all, that's as anti-consumer as it gets. Clean it up before PS5 drops with BC or it'll be the last time you challenge the GOAT. Sony smells blood in the water.

Just reminding everyone of the score. Not that it matters. As of 8:59 am this morning before the tweet went out Microsoft was the pro-consumer company. As of 9:01 am this morning they're now the anti-consumer company again, charging for free to play games by locking Fortnite and others behind a paywall like they did for apps last gen.

In a blog post, Sony say:

Following a comprehensive evaluation process, SIE has identified a path toward supporting cross-platform features for select third party content. We recognize that PS4 players have been eagerly awaiting an update, and we appreciate the community’s continued patience as we have navigated through this issue to find a solution.​


Update - 2:19 PM: Asked about possible cross-console play for Rocket League a host of other games, a Sony rep told Kotaku: “...we have no plans to announce at this point, but our goal remains to take a more open stance with cross-platform support that’s aligned with our mission to deliver the best consumer experience.”

And here’s an Activision-Blizzard rep, replying to questions about any plans for Destiny and Black Ops cross-platform play with PlayStation (and presumably our Overwatch and Diablo inquiries, which were posed to Blizzard PR, as well): “We’ve had a great experience with cross-play for Hearthstone on other platforms and have witnessed how compelling it can be for our community. There’s still a lot of work to do on both our side and the platform side to understand whether cross-play might be integrated into our other games, so we’ll be watching the upcoming test and will assess what the potential impact of this feature would be for our players and our games.”

Take Two had nothing to share at this time regarding its 2K games. Same with Microsoft re: Minecraft. Here’s a rep for Microsoft: “We would love to bring players on PlayStation 4 into our Minecraft ecosystem as well, but have nothing further to share at this time.””

The most popular answers when I checked were "Nah, I don't care" and "No, I don't give a damn," with about two-thirds of people selecting one of those options. That was early on, though, less than an hour after the article was posted and with only 55 votes in, a very small sample. So results may change as more votes come in.

Sound like voters are even divided between caring or giving a dam, even if the cared about and gave a damn to vote.

Well, it's 3x as many votes now, and roughly the same ratio as before. About 2/3 don't care, about 1/3 do. 9% think it's "very important."
 
I think it's obvious that if most PS gamers cared about cross-play or multiplayer in general they'd have gotten an X1 or a PC instead. The multiplayer is just a better experience there, not that it's not good on PS4 but i'll take Live over PSN if that was my focus.

Yet here we are with droves of fanboys claiming that Sony isn't for the players because they wouldn't allow a feature that the masses don't care to have anyway. Goes to show the mindset of people on forums.
