I love what i'm seeing from Days Gone. It gives me a TLoU/The Walking Dead vibe. Could be great if the character development is there and it's not just another zombie shooter type game. Going off the E3 trailer it looks like it's going to be story heavy so i'm all for it.

I thought the whole situation was something we haven't seen. That management of the tide looks intense as hell. He had to run anytime he had to reload because they were constantly on him. It is a very different vibe and way of playing compared to Dead Rising. The power dynamic is also inverted.

Honestly, that whole running away part looked staged. If you watch again and pay attention the freakers actually catch him but end up doing weird s*** that allows him to carry on. Not to mention that they are right on top of him and once he turns and starts running he has plenty of time and space. I also don't understand why they never ran back to their bike or other vehicle and just drove away, this is an open world game after all.

It isn't all that different from dead rising at all. Just like this demo, Dead Rising is all about crowd control.

I feel sorry for these guys. I bet they turn out a good game that will sell poorly. They are having trouble differentiating it from the crowd of zombie games on the market. I can't help but lose interest in it myself, because it is "another zombie game" (I know, "they're not zombies, they're freakers"...yeah, ok).

It's unfortunate, but I think this game is in trouble (in terms of sales). We've already heard about the lack of buzz at E3. Now here they are trying to make the case that their game is unique, based on "extreme weather" and the motorcycle. It's sort of sad.

Days Gone Dev: Our Game Is Unlike Any Other; It Has Extreme Weather & The Bike Plays A Huge, Huge Role

"We feel that our game is completely unique to us. Just running around our world is unique. It’s not like any other game out there, just cruising around and having fun out in the world. Starting from there, in the Pacific Northwest and in the high desert, we have some pretty extreme weather. We have dynamic weather in the game. One day, it could be 100 degrees, and the next day, it could be snowing. All of that affects the world and affects the gameplay. That alone is unique."

[I mean, you're trying to differentiate your game from the dozens of other zombie games out there, and that's your first point? We have extreme weather?]

"I can talk a bit about something you might have seen, where the little guy jumped on him. You saw the bounty that was chasing him. That might give you an idea that there’s more than just what you’ve seen. There’s a lot more that we’re going to start unveiling down the line."

[uh, okay, stay tuned I guess. He then goes on to talk about resource management, which is common to these games, and the bike. They're struggling to differentiate it.]

Zombies games don't need to differeniate themselves for me. They don't bore me now. Haven't bored me before. They won't bore me in the future.
This one in paticular looks bad ass.

Zombie games do bore me, so that's where we differentiate ourselves, I suppose. It took me forever to play The Walking Dead because I groaned at the idea of another zombie game (turned out great). Took me a long time to get around to The Last of Us, too, for similar reasons (turned out great, too). And yes, I realize I'm giving examples of zombie games that were not "just another zombie game" but in fact great games. That's actually what concerns me here -- that this will be a very good game that will not get much sales or attention because it will struggle to prove that it is "not just another zombie game."

Even for the crowd of people who love playing zombie games, they still have to push through all the other zombie games to get attention and sales -- not unlike zombies themselves push through the crowd of zombies to get a choice morsel of corpse meat. They have to make the case why a guy who likes zombie games should play this particular zombie game, rather than any one of the other dozen zombie games on the market. The zombie games are clamoring for attention, trying to break through our zombie game saturation like so many hungry zombies trying to bust down the door in a George Romero movie (ok, I'll stop with the zombie analogies).

Ah, so Sony Bend is the studio behind Syphon Filter. Cool.

I know a lot of people wanted a Syphon Filter reboot. But this looks like their best work to date. I would have had very little interest in SF.

Hoping for Gabe Logan doing a zombie cameo.

The AI and difficulty were toned down for the demo.

I know they do that more often than not, but this looked more scripted rather than toned down A.I.

I don't know how you'd really be able to tell that from the demo, the AI was toned way down or off just for the sake of the demo, the freakers went down easier than they will in the final game too. They said those were all real characters on screen no LOD tricks or anything like that.

Honestly it doesn't matter. No point banging on about it. It was a demonstration.

Hopefully we see more representative gameplay soon enough.

As I watched the demo, I was thinking, "Why don't you just run? You seem to be able to outpace them pretty well. Why do you bother turning around to shoot, especially when there are tons of them streaming at you? I would just be running." But ... yeah, it's clear now that the demo was designed to show off the zombie flood, not to provide an accurate sense of gameplay. Another difference was that there was unlimited ammo in the demo (that was pretty noticeable!), whereas ammo will be limited in the real game.

I think all the running around and zombies was just to show off the tech, which failed in some ways. There's one demo where the zombies can't figure out how to climb in a window lol, but yet they climb over the same building, that's the one where he's shooting at them above him. Silly.

Also, the conveyer belt thing he slams down in front of them, why can't they climb over that, its 3ft high? They eventually do but its really awkward.

Anyway, I like the concept, but I want it to be f***ing hard as s***, this looks easy mode all the way. He should have died 3-5 times in that demo.

The game is not coming out for a while. It has a solid debut in terms of numbers for a number I.P tbh. Roughlu 1,4 million views on Playstation youtubes account for the trailer and around 700,000 for the gameplay demo. The announce trailer got nearly 400,000 on Playstation EU and on Playstation Access 250,000 watched for behind the scenes info. So there is clearly enough people interested and they have time to show new demo's or trailers. IMO this game is not coming out for a while as Bend are smaller than Insomniac, Santa Monica or Quantic Dreams and they only staffed up to a 100 people recently and they are doing a pretty big open world game with lots of mechanics. I feel like the unique components of this game will be the setting, the focus on the bike and traversal and the ecosystem of these freakers. If they focus on these things they are good for me.

I would have liked to see more environmental weapons like when he crushed a bunch with those caged tree logs. I really hope they went all out with that kind of stuff.

Maybe I was thrown off by that E3 story Rollins posted. It seemed like the game wasn't getting much attention. But the E3 story seems to have been distorted or the facts misconstrued, so ... hopefully all is well. I'm not a big fan of zombie games, but I am rooting for the game to turn out well. I like Sony Bend for their Syphon Filter games and would hate to see them fall on their face.

Sorry this is a little late lol.

I believe it. To access any of Sony's offerings at PAX East you had to "make an appointment" through their stupid friggin app. I can see the point of it, however, the day's time slots are all available at the start of each day and get all filled up within minutes of going live. That coupled with the crush of 10's of thousands of people using the venue's data services made it extremely hard to get a spot in the days queue. It also made it seem like no one was at Sony's booths.

How great would a new Syphon Filter have been

As awesome as the game looks, and it looks killer, I feel it'll suffer sales wise too. Zombies have invaded every genre now and it's a tough pickle separating yourself from the masses.

Possibly but just for reference the highest viewed Sea of Thieves video on youtube only has around 600,000 views. The problem is if people compare it to Horizon because Aloy's trailer has over 6 million views. But this game will not be on the same scope as Horizon, it is more comparable to the scale of Infamous game though I suspect the open world will be quite a big bigger than Seattle in Second Son. I don't think Sony are expecting a massive seller just a solid seller with good reviews to maybe build a franchise on.

The game is too familiar. It's obviously trying to play on the popularity of Daryl in Walking Dead. I don't think it'll be a big seller because of that. I think it looks cool, even though the genre is tired as hell.

And I am the one who gets labelled pessimistic.

It looks like Cerny was right about not really seeing what the PS4 can do until year 3 and beyond, all of the 1st party stuff looked amazing at E3.

As far as this game it's not a "zombie" game, these enemies are alive, there will also be issues dealing with wildlife etc so this isn't just a prettier more serious version of Dead Rising. I don't expect this to be a 10 million seller or anything but as long as they put out a quality title it'll do just fine I'm sure.
