Destiny isn't really an MMO. More like an FPS version of Diablo. The game is all about two things: shooting and looting.

Also the story got all ripped apart because of Activision. Hopefully they won't make the same mistake twice.

Maybe that is what it is but that isn't really what it was supposed to be

That article puts the blame for the story on Bungie so I don't know how you can blame Activision.

It did start out as sort of an MMO, but grew into something better. Early on, they made getting to max light an endless grind. That wasn't fun.

Today, the game still has a leveling system, but it does not take a long time, which is better in my opinion. The game is an FPS, first and foremost. The loot is more like Diablo, not an MMO.

I love that a game like this gets a chance to have a sequel.

The first reminds me of Jupiter Ascending.
It has everything going for it...

Butterface?

"Hey, everyone.

We’re planning to reveal the final live event for the Destiny 1 era next Wednesday. We’re calling it “Age of Triumph,” and we intend for it to be a fun and memorable celebration that will bring the first major chapter of our Destiny adventures to a fitting close. We’ll look back upon the three incredible years we’ve shared as a community, and look ahead to some final challenges and rewards that await you in the weeks ahead.

But first, we want to answer some important questions you’ve been asking about Destiny’s first full sequel.

Sequels represent the start of a new adventure for every player, with new worlds to explore, new stories to tell, new powers to acquire, new loot to earn, and much more. This led us to a decision that would enable us to serve both the game and the player’s best interests: Destiny 1 power, possessions, and Eververse-related items and currency will not carry forward. They will, however, remain accessible to you in Destiny 1.

We know that, just like us, you have grown fond of the Guardians you’ve created, so we do plan to preserve your character personalization. We are going to recognize the dedication and passion you’ve shown for this world. Specifically, the class, race, gender, face, hair, and marking selections for all characters that have achieved Level 20 and completed the Black Garden story mission will carry forward. We also plan to award those veteran accounts with honors that reflect your Destiny 1 accomplishments.

We believe this is the best path forward. It allows us to introduce the major advancements and improvements that all of us expect from a sequel, ensuring it will be the best game we can create, unencumbered by the past. We’re looking forward to sharing more details with you later this year for how we will honor your legacy in the future.

Before we do that, we’re going to deliver “Age of Triumph” at the end of March. To show you what it’s all about, we’re planning a series of livestream showcases. We’ll be reintroducing you to some members of the Live Team, and they’ll be showing you the content and activity updates that they’ve been working on. The dates and times are listed below.

We kick things off next week."

Not that I care because I never bought any of it. But not carrying over Eververse items seems like a low blow to those who spent money on it. Its only emotes and cosmetic items so I don't see how that would make a difference unless Bungie/Activision is trying to squeeze more money out of people to get them to repurchase for the sequel.

I think its cool that no character stats/abilities or gear will carry over to the sequel. Like Bungie said its a new adventure so everyone should start from scratch. I'm sure they'll give some pointless emblem to show veteran status if that's important to anyone. I just want more of what Destiny brought but upped in scale.......and Matchmaking for every available activity.

Hopefully they are going to completely revamp the weapon perk system which is honestly completely broken at this point. I'm hoping that's why they aren't carrying gear forward.

"Hey guys, We know that we sold you an MMO version of Halo, and we charged you like an MMO for the gameplay fixes, We charged you like MMO expansion packs are released, and we similiar had to ballance s*** as often as an MMO...

But we've decided we aren't an MMO.

Destiny 2. Nothing you did means anything."

All the MMos I have played done things the same way. Your comments only hold for the switch from year 1 to year 2....where they rendered all year 1 content irrelevant.

This is a sequel not an expansion, and I would want all new stuff.

So since nothing important makes the jump to D2 but skintone and hairstyle we get to pay for new strikes missions and raids to get the same weapons back from D1. Where do we sign up?

Why would people want the exact same gear again? The gun perks are horribly imbalanced, and weapon balance is still terrible after 2.5 years. A new game gives them the opportunity to fix that and countless other things. You can't criticize their mistakes at launch but also criticize them for trying to fix it in D2. My guess though is there would be the same complaining if D2 was just a $60 expansion of D1 and all gear carried over too.

Qft for a game with so many flaws and crying fans it is pretty amazing how many folks still play. It must be doing something right because any other title with this amount of hate would have died years ago.

As long as I can carry over my stats from Destiny 1& is 60fps, has amazing vehicle combat, has splitscreen and a 10-12 hour story centric campaign.

Im in.

sure do with multiyear games that offer YEARS worth of content.

Keep trying though
So the $60.00 game people bought at launch is only good if you spend another $40.00-$60.00?

The Taken King really did make the game much better, but that doesn't change the fact the the vanilla game was just mediocre.

YEARS worth of content.
