Detroit: Become Human

One thing I wish QD would get rid of in their games is shaking the controller up and down, I'm fine with making the choices etc and having to do QTE's from time to time but shaking the controller just feels stupid lol.

I think the game will ultimately end up between 78 - 85 range on metacritic. Had it released sometime in July- Aug( read: Not around any other exclusives, AAA games), I'd wager it would be 5 to 10 points higher.

I agree. I think it'll suffer from a few things:

- Reviewers who dislike David Cage. There seem to be a lot of gamers like that, so I'm assuming there are a number of reviewers like that, too. They find him pretentious (not without cause) and annoying, and that will affect their experience of the game. I think they'll give high scores grudgingly.

- Reviewers whose opinion will be soured by the negative, #metoo-type press surrounding the studio. There's a lot of sensitivity around these subjects, and the more socio-politically charged reviewers may go in with a soured perspective.

- Coming out right after God of War. Reviewers are supposed to grade each game individually, but I don't think they can help but see this Sony exclusive and compare it (subconsciously, at least) to the last one.

- These sorts of narrative-driven games are always kind of hit or miss with reviewers. It's not a style of game that appeals to a wide spectrum of gamers. It's more of a niche audience thing. If a reviewer isn't in that niche, he/she isn't going to like the game.

Some tidbits from an interview with David Cage.

You've set up a flowchart system that allows players to realize all the possibilities offered by the game, why?

This is one of the things we learned from past games. Some players did not necessarily realize they were missing some scenes. It's been bugging us. So we made the choice to stop being invisible and to show everything we hid behind the curtain. ... There are multiple categories of players - those who want to complete everything, and those who will be content with their first experience. But you have to play the game four, five times to see all the branches.

5 games in 20 years is not much for a studio. What explains your longevity with so little output?

We've always had the chance to meet publishers who believed in us. This has been the case with Sony for 12 years now. This is also due to the fact that we've never made sequels of our games. We've always worked on new games, with new engines. We don't want have an industrial logic. We see ourselves as craftsmen.

And again, does Sony not push you to adopt an industrial logic? Has a Heavy Rain 2 not crossed your mind?

We didn't want to do it. Sony didn't even ask us the question. With them, we want to invent new things, to try new stories. It's an atypical adventure. It's a luxury with maximum freedom. But there's no mystery. Every game we make is profitable and finds its audience. Heavy Rain reached 5.4 million units on a single platform. Each game is profitable and generates profits.

Would be shocked if it's not at least an 80. Game looks fantastic. Demo was great.

Release trailer. Reviews will be out Thursday.

Hmmm, after reading two reviews both of which on the opposite sides of love/hate I think I'll wait a while before I try this one out. I really liked the demo but with the information that the three stories for the main characters don't merge into a single narrative I was disappointed. I don't think that was explicitly said by the developers but it was an expectation I had so I guess my disappointment is my own fault. This still looks like a fun ride and hope it finds an audience.

I am gonna bargain bin this one. I wanted more Heavy Rain personally. It's an 80 at meta right now with 73 critic reviews, and that is pretty good. I think it's just the scifi aspect that doesn't appeal to me. I am all for a David Cage game (said nobody ever), so I know I want to get it down the road.

I'm sill going to Day 1 this ( Amazon already shipped it). The reviews are all over the place with this one. But if I took review seriously, I would have never played alot of good games. Plus I do like supporting unique kind of games.

80 or 81 is decent for a game like this. Reviews seem to range pretty widely, which is expected -- some love it, some hate it (and many in the middle).

I think I'll wait for a price drop to $40. I want to support it, but I'm busy with God of War right now. I'm a little put off by some of the comments about the storytelling, although I've only seen snippets here and there, not read any reviews. I also heard the game is around 10 hours long, which isn't great -- although I'll probably replay it once, to see what happens if I'm a good guy on the first run and a nutjob on the second.

Is GOW your GOTY?

Yeah, although there's been no competition. Far Cry 5 would be the only possible contender that I've played, and it's a far distant second. I didn't play Monster Hunter World or Shadow of the Colossus, so I don't know about those, but I doubt they would usurp it.

FC5 was up there for me until I played God of War and now Ghost Recon Wildlands. Yes, I know Ghost Recon is older, but I didn't play it when it came out. I still haven't gone past the 5th boss in Shadow of the Colossus. Not because I don't want to or can't, but other games came out and it's not a game I am like "OMG" I can't wait to get back to it. Still love it though. I love the art style. Almost feels more like a tech demo?

The game looks interesting so I'll probably get it at some point. I loved Heavy Rain but never got around to Beyond Two Souls. Not sure if I should bother with that one at this point or not.

This game is f***ing intense. I washed dishes, made beds, tidied up, took out the trash, and helped a old man go to the bathroom.

Oh and I'm helping solve crimes and bearing witness to some child abuse on the side.

I'm convinced I'll like it, based on the reviews I've seen. I understand how Cage game works and what their limitations are. I'm ok with that. It looks like it's got some interesting characters and scenarios, and the visuals are stunning. I'm looking forward to playing it.

Played through the opening chapter. Love the visual style.

I'm enjoying all the characters but Conner the detective android so far seems like the most fun.

Are you playing it straight or f*cking around?

Remember this?

That Gamespot review is weird.
Praise, praise, praise, criticism, praise, criticism, praise, praise, praise........7.
