DF: How Much Will Next Gen Consoles Cost?

So, he's saying it would be cost-prohibitive to launch a new console in 2018 or even 2019. So, 2020, then, or maybe even 2021.

I think generations are over. We're just going to see consoles launched with better stats every so often. We may see a PS5 eventually to answer the XBOX One X. But I think XBOX is done for a while.

$500 is the new $400.

If you're the market leader, sure. Great way to lose the generation, sales wise.

PS3 launched at $500 (and $600!!!) and got destroyed.
XBOX One launched at $500 and got destroyed.
PS5 will likely launch at $500 and get destroyed.

I guessed you missed my post in the other thread, where I was talking about inflation. You are talking about PS3! Inflation makes $400 at that time, about $500 now.

Na, it'll probably be $500 always, from here on out. Book it!

Also, Xbox One was only $500 because of Kinect. That's exactly what I was saying in the other thread. That's a pretty weak argument, imo..especially with Sony being a bit more powerful for cheaper.

Yes, I did miss your post in the other thread, because you aren't famous.
Well that's debatable, but we were just talking about the same thing in the Xbox One X forum.

Clicking the new post button and replying does not really equal fame, it's just efficient.

They ignore the fact that the Xbox One X is only $500 because they are going above and beyond for what it should be. "Xbox Two" could hit $400 easily if we get 7nm in 2018-2019.
"They" is like "you people" for console warriors.

I'm going to tally the flip floppers on this when the PS5 or whatever is next for Sony, when it is also $500.

A new $400 console from Sony will not be enough any time soon to put them in a category enough ahead of the Pro and still above Xbox one X, in my opinion. That could change with technology advances, but this advances will also drop the price of X. We know MS is about breaking even right now.

$400 was enough to produce the 4.2tf ps4 pro in 2016. 2018 will likely half chip costs. So ps5 can easily be a 8.5tf console with similar TDP. Or maybe 9.5tf through optimized itineraries of the tech.

8+ TF's PlayStation
I hear adult babies crying!

My guess is as early as 2019 with 2020 more likely and I say no lower than 10 TF's with 12 likely.

Who are these flip floppers?
Cause the only ones I see flip flopping are the ones who not only said it wouldn't be $500 but that they weren't buying at that price...BUT NOW are acting like $500 isn't a issue.

Even 3 years from now that is going to be expensive. That amount of power plus a big upgrade to CPU. Plus more ram and a significant cooling system. Plus a UHD drive.

Are Sony as a company really in a position to take big losses on the hardware?

I don't think it will as tech as you know comes down in price and evolves fast by then the PC will likely have 24 TF cards if not higher by 2020.
Hardware with 10-12 TF's GPU and a custom Ryzen by 2019/20 shouldn't be that high.
Heck we know when these console launched they were on the weak side but PS4 was still thought to be priced higher than $400(camera being removed RUMORS aren't why) I am sure Sony lost money on the hardware and 8GB's of GDDR5 was pretty amazing as weak as it might of been.

Sony can put out another $400 machine but $450 is more likely and it wouldn't be higher than $500.

I thought we were talking about pricing, not console wars s***, datum!

Are you referring to Xbox One owners? A lot of us paid $500 for the console at launch, so that's kind of funny.

No, it won't be expensive. Not if 7nm nodes make it on schedule in 2018.

Console war chit isn't in my post.
I paid $500 for my XBO and the POS kinect as well.

I am referring to people who said what they would pay for X and it was less than $500 and now the $500 price is announced and there tune has changed even though they said they wouldn't buy at $500.

Well scorpio is about par with a 390X which will be about 30 months old when scorpio launches...it started out at $330 and hasn't drpped in price much atall.

Plus you seem to be forgetting that this stuff will be needed long before it releases. If Sony wan't a 12 tf machine in 2020 then they will be paying 2018 prices, not 2020 prices.

Do AMD even have a 12tf GPU out right now?

But to be fair those people have now seen what that $500 will get them.

Nothing they weren't already aware of.
You don't know that...but even so, seeing is not the same as believing, or thinking you know, or being aware of. So they changed their mind, who cares. Leave it alone.

Everything but the look and price was known.

I am just responding to the flip flopping post that was made b4 I made my post.

How about you get back on topic. I replied to you at the end of page 1, so start there if you wish.
