Official Thread Dragon Ball Fighters Z

If you are good at DBFZ you won't have any trouble against button mashers. The same as Killer Instinct or any fighting game.... No fighter is a buttons really. It's just something people say when their bad at fighting games. If anything making a fighter accessible is even worse for a rookie player versus skilled players.
DBFZ is a button masher. Skilled players can beat them. Mid range players can get killed by them in this game.

I haven't played any Beta so I don't know what the game play is like. Do you think ease of combos makes them less important so that strategy becomes more important? For example when to use or combine supers, tag, or use assists?

The game comes down to tag teaming moves. That's what will separate players.

I didn't have much time with Beta and I DESTROYED button mashers. It sounds like a YOU problem. :hehe:

How is this game to play? would it be worth getting if you've never seen a DBZ episode? I like the look of the gameplay that I've seen but not sure about the DBZ universe.

lol same here.

I love the art style integrating the animation so well, but I've never seen the show.

Maybe if the game has Story Mode that would be enough to clue in new people to this franchise's background? Also, I think recently there is a newer run of the TV show Dragon Ball Super, but I haven't seen it yet.

It's kind of impressive that you guys have never seen a DBZ episode, considering how many years it ran worldwide.

If you've never seen the anime you wil learn some facts through the story mode. For example:

If you're new to the show, you'll hear Frieza lost twice to Goku..and Cell lost to Gohan..and that's basically it.

As a fan of the show, you'll know how both villains lost in their respective story sagas of at least 30+ episodes each. You'll know how powerful they both were and what kind of sacrifices had to be made to take them down. You'll know why Cell lost to "Goku's little brat" and why Frieza would think it's pathetic.

DB is very dramatic, so you've missed out on what makes the characters memorable. You won't know the characters and their interpersonal relationships. There's time travel, aliens, deaths, evolution, slavery, planets that get destroyed and all kinds of crazy stuff.

Having Frieza and Cell next to each other in that scene is like having Hitler and the Terminator talking trash about getting to beat you up.

There's no context without having seen DBZ and Dragon Ball Super, but I'm sure you'll enjoy the fighting and light-hearted humor in this new story. They've managed to capture that from the shows quite well.

So, the game hasn't been out yet for an afternoon and the fighting game community is already getting creative in the lab.

Here come the mixups and resets...You get out of fighting games wat you put in.

I was curious about the show and it looks like Dragonball Super is on the anime site Crunchyroll. I've been thinking of checking that out. I also saw some bits of it on YouTube enough to wonder if the Jiren character would be a part of these games or if he's to powerful.

I ended up buying it on the Pro but haven't played it much yet, went to the story mode and damn they make you sit through a lot of subtitles before letting you get to the first fight lol.

Highly doubtful. I didn’t lose. Even with the s*** netcode.

So you didn't lose to button mashers even at beginner/noobie level? Thanks for proving my point. Like I said false info. "You are fake news! ".

The gameplay is awesome. Whoever designed this interface deserves to be bitch slapped though.

Played a little more tonight, I really like the graphical style they've achieved but do all the characters basically have the same moves or is it just because I'm early in the story mode?

I haven't done story yet, I jumped right into Practice just to try all the insane moves.

What I'm seeing is that the execution controls for major special moves are the same, but there is variation in how these behave. Some of them will be energy blasts while others like Android 16 have grab moves or Android 18 calling Android 17 assists. Beerus and Frieza have more unusual moves to like the Golden Frieza transformation or Beerus leaving floating energy orbs.

It does take some getting used to as I've been in Mortal Kombat X then Injustice 2. The Super Moves are f***ing insane in this game though lol. Especially if you have Blue Goku or Blue Vegeta which is an early access bonus.

Otherwise, I think the main thing to workout is effective use of tag teaming or even chaining supers.

Got a rough Idea of this insane game from Practice and just trying Arcade.

Again while some Super Move execution seems the same, some characters execute them very differently. I've done Android 16's Self Destruct instant K.O. a few times. I just played a round where the last character came on the stage and I killed them with a full health bar by blowing myself up into a Destructive Finish.

This game is something else. I've never seen Super Moves so well integrated into a fighter. It makes Injustice 2 seem dull in comparison. I knocked another character through several mountains with Beerus' death finger flick move.

I'm still playing with the Roster in Arcade figuring out who I like.

Good Lord my old eyes wouldn't have a chance of keeping up with all that chaos on screen.
Pretty game but it looks like it's running at 20 fps because there's hardly any transitional animations. It skips from one punch pose to another instantly. Not my cup of tea but I'm glad you guys are liking it.

Yeah the animation style is on purpose, it's 60fps but made to look like that to match the cartoon from what DF said. When you play it the game actually does look a bit like an animated show, it's a nice looking cell shaded fighting game for sure, it's fun to play too but I have to admit the first 3 of 4 characters I've used seem like they are 90% the same character with the special move looking slightly different.
