EA Access on Xbox One.

From EA rep.

An EA representative tells us that the company has no plans on removing games from The Vault, which means the library of titles available will grow over time. Additionally, if your membership lapses, your progress will be saved should you decide to re-up later.

That clears that up as I was worried as I probably get this and trade in BF4 then as no point keeping the disc version.

EA has added some additional clarity regarding pre-release trials that will be available for a number of games. Each one will be different depending on the game.
"In some titles you’ll be able to play one of the game's modes for a limited time, while other times you can jump right into the full game," a recently posted FAQ document reads. "And since you’ll always be playing the real game, any progress you make will carry over so you can pick up where you left off on launch day."

On Major Nelson's blog, there is some additional detail that suggests how this might be implement for games like Dragon Age: Inqusition. "Starting 5 days before release, you’ll be able to try the game for at least two hours and then save your progress," he writes. "Once you purchase the digital or physical copy, you can use your save game and continue the experience."

As for purchasing an Access membership at retail, different stores will offer the option in different territories. In the United States, Gamestop (Disclaimer: GameStop is Game Informer's parent company) will carry them. In Europe, they'll be available at GameStop and online via Amazon. In Canada, you can purchase a membership from EBGames.

That also makes sense as giving 5 days on Dragon Age seem crazy because someone could easily beat the game in time, so can see why only 2 hours but games like FPS/Sports doesn't matter as those games have infinite replay value so 5 days make sense.
Ahhh.... Thanks for the clarification. Sounds great. The game vault increases over time, and not subtract old ones. Great news.

I'm probably going to try it out when Dragon Age launches.

$6.65 (Australian price) for a 1 month trial of BF4 and a 2 hour demo of Dragon Age. Not bad at all

Just got an email to try it out. I think if you're a member of the XBox One preview, you'll get an invite.

Just read, I get the app for free, but I still have to pay for the subscription.

Yep. Got the same.

I got e-mail about it but don't see a message yet from xbox live. Saying to preview EA access but no code sent yet.. This happen to anyone else? Weird to get e-mail then find no message when i went onto my xbox one.

Meh. So you'd have to download the games first and then once the game is removed from the rotation, you got to delete it?
Yeah....so? I see no downside to this if you want to play the games in a "rental" fashion knowing they will rotate out. There will be 3 pillars:

The Vault - Unlimited Access to the games EA chooses to make available. The idea is that these are back catalog likely 6 months or older. Likely rotating titles and titles no longer available will not be playable.
Pay for Less - 10% Discount on all digital purchases of any EA game on Xbox One
Play First - You can download upcoming EA games five days before the release date to play for a limited time (this may be time locked and not a limited "demo")....i.e. play the full game of Battlefield: Hardline for X hours and then you have to wait for the game to come out to purchase it to play more.

So, for $30/YEAR, that is a pretty good deal. Essentially comes down to an extended rental service so if you get hooked, you may pony up for full unlimited access (10% discount if going digital). It's not hugely conducive to playing a game (Battlefield, say) long term but that is what they want....you to pony up for the full game....that is the catch. For those that generally play through an SP game and are done with it or end up only playing MP for short periods, it's ideal. I just hope they don't beta this and then raise the price. Great for me because I enjoy playing sports games but am not willing to buy yearly releases. Also, I'm sure Madden will come off the service a month or so into the Football season so they can get you hooked and maybe you'll buy it....yeah last years game but still. I'll be jumping on this personally.

Ok hold on.....of all those games i am only interested in Dragon Age: Inquisiton, so i pay 30 dollar for a year and i get DAI and those sports games?

I think i read that wrong. It's the 2014 sports games and BF4 that will be part of the service, right? I DO get 10% off if i buy DAI digitally though. I think i got it now. Was waaaaaay too good to be true what i was thinking. So i basically it's mostly older games?

You get full versions of older games to play (BF4, Fifa 14 etc).

Any new game you get to play 5 days before it releases, but that's it. If you want to play the game after that trial period you need to buy it.

Any EA digital content you buy you get a 10% discount.

Dragon Age Inquisition is a 2 hour trial, available 5 days before it comes out.

I just got my xbox live message so I signed up for EA Access as I think 30$ is a steal to play sport games and I don't care if they are a year old. Plus getting other games just be a bonus to me. Like BF4 I can just sell the game now then.

As long as the vault games stay, I agree.

$30 to play BF4, Fifa 14, Madden 25 and Peggle 2. Not a bad deal at all.

See that doesn't cut it for me at the moment, BF4 completed on the Xbox 360, Fifa I have on the Playstation 4, Madden 25 I have on the PS3 and it has to be the worst Madden around and Peggle I have no interest in.

They need to release details on the 'Vault' and the updating times.

I told you all Microsoft's partnership with EA would be huge on the Xbox One. We saw glimpses of it at the reveal. Now it's all coming together.

Conditions, limitations and exclusions apply.

How do I join EA Access?

EA Access membership is available to Xbox One gamers through Xbox Live. You will soon be able to sign up through the EA Access Hub app after downloading it to your console.

Where else can I purchase an EA Access membership?

Coming soon, GameStop fans will be able to purchase an EA Access membership at their local GameStop retail store. In the UK, gamers will also be able to purchase their membership through GAME stores.

How much does EA Access cost?

Membership in EA Access has been priced affordably at $4.99 per month, but you can save even more: $29.99 for a full year.

When does EA Access go live?

You’ll be able to become an EA Access member this summer. We’ll announce the launch day soon. Stay tuned!

What is The Vault?

The Vault is an evolving selection of EA's Xbox One games that EA Access members can download and play while an active member. During the beta, gamers will have unlimited access to four great EA games: Madden NFL 25, FIFA 14, Peggle 2 and Battlefield 4, with more titles being added soon.

What will the pre-release trials include? Will my progress carry over?

Each game is different, so each game’s trial will be, too. In some titles you’ll be able to play one of the game's modes for a limited time, while other times you can jump right into the full game. And since you’ll always be playing the real game, any progress you make will carry over so you can pick up where you left off on launch day.

EA Access is available to all Xbox One owners in supported territories.

Will EA Access be available in my country?

At launch, EA Access will be available in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Mexico, New Zealand, Spain, United Kingdom, and the United States with additional territories to follow.

Sounds too good to be true. Charging a yearly rate for their sports games would hurt them, at least for people who buy more than one sports game and buy them every year.

...but for the other tens of millions of users who wouldn't pay anywhere near $60 for an EA yearly-rehash, they just might bite.

I haven't purchased a Madden game in probably close to a decade. This is something that would get me playing it again... if for nothing else, to have fun with during the NFL season, to see how the teams I like do in a virtual setting. :)

If EA's seen a big enough decline in year-over-year sales of games like Madden, then suddenly something like this makes a lot of sense...

so if this is a success will Activision and UBI follow?

Would you pay $90/yr for games from those 3 pubs? I guess smaller pubs could charge less but it could get to around $200+ a year from everyone.

$200 a year sounds like a lot, but when you think about it it's 3 retail games and a Arcade game, or a game and a couple Arcade games if the big 3 all had $30 a year sub. plans. I average 4-5 retail games purchased new a year.

I'll get on the Wagon once the next dragon age and fifa 15 are on that list.

Ah ok. That's kinda cool then. But i rather just go in fresh, no trials or whatsoever, certainly not for a RPG. It's still cool though.

That price is sweet, if theres no catches to it, it sound great and maybe a model of the future.

Here is a clue EA - if you want people to not think your a bunch of money grubbing, customer disrespecting douche bags, trying being more transparent. Is this Netflix or gaming or just a rebranding of "Season Ticket" with a few incentives to grab the attention of non-sports gamers...I don't know because nothing you f***ing say is clear.

What game rentals do we get for our $5 subscription.
An evolving selection of whatever the f*** we feel like giving you whenever and for how ever long we f***ing feel. Stop asking questions.

Will we get access to preview full sports titles five days ahead of release like we did with "Season Ticket" ?
Each game is different, so each game’s trial will be, too. Maybe its Season Ticket, and maybe its just us being total dicks and making you pay for demos. It really doesn't matter, just stop your moaning and pay up.

It sounds too good to be true, is there a catch?
If there wasn't a catch do you think we would be this vague about everything? Of course there is a catch - we do not get consistently voted as one of the most hated companies on the planet by blowing our customers out of good will.

loser in this Gamestop and used games

winner if you just find one game every three months worth while that $7.50 a game

also another way to push digital download

Cool idea, I'm a little hesitant, but if this turns out to be half of what it could be, it could provide decent value to gamers.

I wonder how long this has been in the works for and whether this was a recent Phil Spencer thing, or something that has been longer in development. Either way, it could be a nice steal for MS.

"Decent" value? Really?

10% off anything you buy digitally.
Free early access to all EA games before launch, with carry-over saves in the event that you do buy (and you get that 10% discount)
Full game-access to anything in "the vault", which has amazing titles in it today, and a stock-pile of EA games over time...

I've been interested in Peggle 2 for a while, but didn't want to pay more than 5$ for it (it's $12 on the store right now). Well shoot, now I can just buy the EA access pass for $5, and get full access to it, plus 3 other games I wasn't planning on buying - and see what I think. $5 is nothing for a month of access for those things... and if I like Peggle, then I can either buy it (with the 10% discount) and keep it after my $5 month is over, or I could only be out $5 or something I ended up not liking too much.

Then, imagine when bigger games come out. Like, Dragon Age. It's a $60 game. 10% off of that is $6. It only costs $5 to join up for a month. So, the month a big game is coming up - spend the $5 for the month, play the game early, and if you like it, buy it for 10% off, and then cancel the membership. You're still up $1, and you got early access to it, PLUS access to a bunch of other games in the Vault.

It's really an AMAZING value to customers.

Exactly!

$5 for a month long rental of BF4, Madden 25, Fifa 14 and Peggle 2. Along with a 2 hour demo of Dragon Age as well.

Don't see how anyone can complain about that.

I wonder who's next to follow this model? I'm sure there are others. Oh hell yes! Make gaming a service like Netflix, charge me minimal to have access to a crazy list of games, plus discounts on those games I want to buy and I'm all yours. This be the hotness!

You failed to read my post. I said that if this turns out to be 'HALF' of what it could be, it will provide a decent value to consumers. It could provide fantastic value. But MS and EA have blown a lot of opportunities in the past year, so there's good justification for being skeptical of this.

Also, it's not 'free early access to games', it's paid access to what essentially amounts to elongated demos.

The 10% digital discount is mostly meaningless to me. Through the Best Buy Gamer's Club ($30 for a 2 year subscription), I get 20% off all game purchases + $10 gift cards for preordering + additional rewards points.

For me, it all depends on what games are in the 'Vault'. If they are new, relevant, and good games, then I'd definitely consider it, if not, then I'll pass.

Edit: @Smiley @Flynn
If you are going to mark my post funny to make your disagreement, at least try to counter my argument, otherwise you look like jackasses.
